A crack in the wall
Chapter 20
A crack in the wall
'I take it you like what you see?" He said and paused as if waiting for reply from the other person.
'That's good, so I take it I'll see you in a weeks time? Oh great, do have a lovely night rest," he said and ended the call. I didn't need to be told he was talking to.
Myra.
Since I saw them at the event last night on the television, I haven't been myself. I tried to think less of it and now, he's been on phone with her since we had dinner. He had excused himself to get a bit of work done whilst I decided to go through the internet. For what was more than thirty minutes,he had been on the call with her. A fact that me lose focus in what I was doing and became fixated on how loud and happy he sounded on the call. What exactly was going on and how is he that happy by talking to a woman he barely knows?
I threw my phone on the bed in anger. I listened attentively maybe he was about leaving where he was and returned inside but he didn't. I contemplated going over to meet him but stopped myself from doing that. I didn't want to sound like some jealous woman.
'She's nothing to him. She's a business partner, nothing more than that," I muttered to myself but still I had doubts. You never can trust men, I thought as I remembered how I myself came to be his wife but that isn't even a talk for today, my priority is how to tell him this without sounding ridiculous. I stood up and began pacing the length of the room, it was few minutes to midnight and yet he was still on his laptop.
Minutes later, I heard the shuffling of this feets as he made his way inside of the room. A part of me wanted to just go ahead and sleep, forgetting about it but I couldn't stop myself from thinking that Myra would snatch him away from me if care isn't taken. If I don't act as quickly as possible, things might might escalate.
'You haven't slept? He said as he got in but I said nothing. I hissed and crossed my hands across my chest. I looked at him and saw how he frowned before dropping his laptop out and walked to me.
'Hey? What's going on. Did I do something wrong?" He asked but I turned my back to him, weighing whether to make my thoughts known or not. Who knows how he'll take it if I say it aloud. ‘But my emotions are justified too,' I thought and faced him
'Yes, something is wrong, infact, it is you who caused it," I said dejectedly.
'Me,how?" He asked. His expression confirmed how confused he was by my words. I hesitated as I saw how confused he was.
'You…you've gotten closer to Myra in the last months than you were with me And I don't like it." I said
'What?" He exclaimed in astonishment.
'Don't you dare give me that Royce. You know very well what I'm talking about. It's like she's all you think about since she came to New York. You spend at least four times in a week with her , gallivanting from one party to another. When you aren't in the same space, you talk about her from morning to evening. I'm begining to wonder if she's your wife." I ranted.
'Are we really discussing this? Myra is nothing to me. She's a business partner, nothing more , nothing less." He explained
'Are you sure, because it sure doesn't look like that to me. It's looking more than business kind of thing to me. You told me you had work to do and you were on the call with her for more than thirty minutes. How do you explain that?"
'Come," he said as he pulled me closer, he unfolded my arms and pulled me to him in the exact way that he knew I liked
'Look at me Britney. How can you think that about me? You are the only one I love, the one I chose to be my wife till the end of time. Myra is just…she's a business partner that we need her to make everything we want work out. I have a queen as beautiful as you are right in front of me, why go for some mystery woman?" I asked.
I looked at his eyes searching for hints to reveal if he was lying. Hints to show whether Myra did mean something to him or not but I found non. I became convinced that he wasn't lying to me.
'I can't help but feel as if something isn't right. It's been you and I for a long time, you've never looked at any woman twice before, so I'm surprised that you are like this with her."
'I know but remember that in all of our dealings, no one is closer to how brilliant Myra is. She's just happened to be a brilliant business partner, Britney, don't overthink this." He added.
'You see what I'm saying, she's brilliant? You find her admirable and that's exactly what's giving me concerns."
'Remember how you coaxed me to take Myra as a friend? I didn't even like her but you made me see the prospect she had. Now that she's making herself useful for us, you are getting jealous? That's ridiculous Brit." He said. I looked at him ready to give him a piece of my mind but I stopped myself. Indeed, I was the one who made him consider Myra in the first place and in truth, she's been caught in our web, making herself useful for us. Wouldn't suspecting my husband over something like that unreasonable?
'I've told you that you have nothing to worry about. Myra is impressive, I'd give her that but she's nothing compared to you. You do know that you are my one and only though?" He asked
'You are sure?" I asked in resignation as it seemed that I was truly being paranoid over nothing.
'I'm absolutely sure. I love you Britney, you are my world, my love and my life. And if you want, I could take you to the altar again and let's renew our vows. Forget about Myra or anyone at all,"
At this, my tensed shoulder relaxed and I leaned more into him. His reassurance gave me some sort of strength and made my worry dissipate. I pulled him close to myself and inhaled his scent.
'Okay, I trust you. I just couldn't help myself from thinking about it. But since you've reassured me, it's fine," I said and he rubbed his hands over my head,in a soothing way
'Why don't you start by giving me a kiss," he said. I smiled at him before planting a kiss on his lips.
