Unraveling the past
Chapter 72
Unraveling the past
'It's now or never! I said to the empty room. With each passing day,I get anxious for Bella's safety. She won't listen to me no matter how hard I try talking her out of what she was into. I know that both Christian and Percy are really trying their best but I'm her father after all. I've lost her once and I won't forgive myself if anything happens to her.
Now that Royce is currently being investigated,he might get angry and plot to kill her and this time it might get worse. The years that I spent in loneliness and wallowing in sorrow after my daughter's death were the most agonizing one of my life. It got even worse as I watched Royce go about his normal life and even went ahead with marrying Britney months after the death of Bella. I was preventing the world from knowing that I had a child outside my marriage and also that the said daughter was planning to get married to the legitimate one's husband.
‘I can only guarantee Bella's safety if everyone knows that she's alive. Being clean and forward with the whole issue will keep Bella safe and that's the only thing that matters to me right now.' I thought.
I grabbed my phone from the top of the table and called Shaun, the journalist that I used at Jay Automobiles for publicity. It's been a while since I spoke to him because Bella has been doing a great job and has her own set of people for things like that. It simply didn't make sense to discard him, that was while I hadn't deleted his contact.
'Carl, long time to see," he said in his usual joviality. I almost thought you forgot all about me, he added as picked the call. I chuckled at his comment, Shaun has always been one to know the words to use to make people smile.
'I'd never forget you and that's why I thought of you first with the story I have right now." I said straight to the point.
'A story?" He asked, his interest piqued. I heard a shuffling sound from the background and I smiled, knowing that he was already grabbing the nearest paper to jot what I had to say.
'Yes, one that will rock the city to its bottom and give you the breakthrough that you need. If you manage to get this out, you'll be the talk of the town as the man who brought light to the tunnel," I said, cajoling him. He chuckled the way he usually does whenever he's fascinated.
'Tell me about it Carl," he said impatiently.
'You know my daughter right?" I asked and he cursed underneath. It was a moment of sadness for him too when he heard about her death and he came around quite a number of times to pay condolences to me and keep my company. Asking him about her now probably brought back the memories.
'The dead one?" He asked.
'Well, that's what I thought too but she didn't die. Her death was staged by her husband, Robben Royce for reasons best known to him. He made it look like she cheated on him, and died while she was running away. Truth is it was a planned work. I found out a while ago" I said
'Carl, are you sure about this or is this some kind of emotional torment you are facing due to being unable to accept her death. I can't write something like this with no proof, it'll ruin my career." He asked with caution.
'I have proof, Shaun. I've seen my daughter in person and what other proof do you need other than that?"

HOURS LATER
Breaking News!
Bella Carl, the daughter of Carl Jonathan, the former CEO of Jay Automobiles returns Alive!
‘Three years ago, New York received the death of Bella Carl and it threw everyone in agony. However, it has been confirmed that she's very much alive. A journalist named Shaun has revealed that her death was staged by her husband Robben Royce and that she currently lives as Myra Cullen, the beauty queen who recently returned to New York!'
My heart almost dropped out of my mouth as various video clips of Bella and Myra began to play simultaneously on the screen of the television in my office.
‘...As of now, Robben Royce hasn't made any official comments to debunk the news. However, all Human Rights Association especially the Woman Leagues of New York are currently agitating that the case be looked into.'
'Royce! The door opened with Britney holding my phone which was vibrating forcefully. She dropped the phone on the desk and I watched as different messages and calls from board members, investors, and the head of the Legal team at RoyBen Hotels wouldn't stop entering.
'This is the end Royce, we are in trouble. The Women League? They'll never let us out live. They'll make sure to drag us to the end of the world." She said,
'Carl! That cunning bastard, he has threatened to reveal everything but I thought he couldn't because he'll want to keep her safe. Was I wrong about my thoughts?" I blurted out.
'Well, he's doing the exact opposite of what you thought. He's doing this because he knows she's not safe. He knows all eyes would be on you and that it would be difficult for you to harm her now. What are you going to do?" She asked, making me angry.
'You mean us? We both did this together. In fact you brought the idea. While I planned to divorce her with no drama, you scarred her face with a bottle and suggested that we present a body to make everything real"
'Are you listening to yourself? You should be ashamed of yourself, you accepted the deal and did everything to make it come true because you had a lot to gain from it. You were eyeing Jay Automobiles too, you never loved her from the beginning. It was all about her wealth," she countered.
'Are you any better? You are her sister and you seduce me. You brought all of this upon me. I loved her, you turned me against her," I said moving closer to her. She realised that I was getting close and began to move back too.
'Really,it makes sense that I made you do what you did?" She asked,
'It will if you aren't here. It will if I make you disappear," I said and grasped her hand with force. I pinned her to the wall, holding her neck with force. 'If I manage to kill you, it will be my word against yours"
'Pleeeeease,Royce. Let me go,"she said but I wasn't ready to listen. All I could think of was how to lessen the trouble I had at hand. As I held her down and pulled her up, she managed to pull her leg up and hit me in my groin.
'Ouch, you bitch!" I screamed, letting go of her immediately. I held my balls in pain and from the side of my eyes, I watched as she ran out of the room while coughing and rubbing her neck.
