Victory overflow
Chapter 7
Victory overflow
I wish I could gloat the moment the results showed on the screen. I had expected it much but I needed Carl to believe me. The entire room became silent and I looked at Britney and Royce slowly. It was obvious they weren't expecting the results. I watched as Britney began to breathe as if she had been running a 100 meter race.
'This is impossible, Britney said to everyone's shock and surprise." She looked round the table and most of the executives looked away and avoided her eyes. They had done the exact opposite of what they had promised to do.
Royce in the hand was calm as the ocean. He looked as if he wasn't affected but I knew better from where I sat that he was shaking his leg furiously, something he does whenever he's furious.
Britney hit her hand on the table, shocking everyone again. Royce rocked her shoulders gently in a bid to make her anger suppress. I scoffed softly, what right does she have to get her angry? She's my father's bastard child. That's the reason I played dirty in the game and made everything fall out.
Earlier that morning
I noticed the odd demeanour coming from Christian immediately. He soon brought it to my notice that we had a problem. The meeting had been moved up. I didn't need anyone to tell me. They were all trying to get Carl out of the way as soon as possible. Christian didn't like the news just like me and looked at me for further instruction. The earlier we decided the best for everyone.
'How many days do we have exactly? I asked as I got into the car.
'Hours Myra. We have less than 24 hours to perform whatever magic we have," he said with worry.
'Murphy Allen?"I asked
'He's been seen with most of the executives. He has brought most of them to his side, except for one of them ,who has a huge influence on the rest of the board of directors. Henry Bricks," he said.
'Okay, we just need to get Henry to our sides right?" I asked and Christian nodded.
'Get me everything you can on him. His weakness and strength and his longtime dreams too. Also, let's get to my father. I need to see him," I said with anxiety.
Immediately I saw my father, I almost broke my cover. I wanted nothing more than to hug him to myself. He looked older than he used to be. My death and the hullabaloo around his company must have taken a toll on him. I managed to remain calm even though all of my being hated by solemnity.
As I walked in, he looked at me with skepticism and almost didn't offer me a seat.
'I don't remember having any appointments today," he said as I sat opposite him.
'Yes, you are right. I'm Myra Cullen, a friend of Bella. I'm here to offer some advice to prevent today's calamity." I explained.
He looked at me and I almost thought he could suspect something. He watched me with scrutiny and frowned. He leaned lazily on the chair and then spoke.
'Bella never mentioned any Myra Cullen to me but… for some reason, you sounded like her. Although things are a bit hectic now, it gladdens my heart that I could see one of my late daughter's friends. I'll address you as Myra then. You see Myra, this is way beyond you. I couldn't stop those hyenas from preying on my company. How then do you intend to help, moreso, if you help me, what's the catch? I know nothing is free in the world." He said
I smiled and looked at him. Indeed,I have missed how open he always has been. He has always been the type to tell you exactly how I was without mincing words.
'My relationship with Bella was a quiet one, so she wouldn't have mentioned me. Also, there's no catch. I want to help because I can. I couldn't bear to watch your company go into the hands of ‘hyenas' like you mentioned. During the short time I was with Bella, she never ceased to talk about how passionate you are about your company and how you built it from scratch. She used to be worried about you and company. So, allow me be of help" I finished
I noticed that his eyes had become red and that he was barely able to keep his emotions as I talked about Bella. I moved to him and held his hand for the first time in years, wishing that I could do more than to hold his hand but I can't promise everything would be for nothing.
'Alright, I'll give you the benefit of doubt but there's a problem….."
'Henry Bricks? I know and I've given him an offer he wouldn't dare to reject. What I need you to do is get ready and let's go kick some ass." I said
The present
Immediately Britney and Royce stood up and left the room, Carl stood up.
'The result has said it all. Thank you for taking the best decision for the company. In that same vein. I believe all we've done so far is for the success of the company. Therefore, I believe that I am no longer suitable to keep heading this company," he said to everyone's surprise. The directors sat down properly looking at themselves and wondering what he had up his sleeves.
'I'd like to abdicate the leadership of the company to Myra Cullen here. I understand that she's young and most of you here don't know her. But be rest assured that all she would do would be towards the progress of the company." He said to my surprise and to everyone's surprise
Deciding to return to New York was part of the plan to help him but I never thought he'd give me the reins to the company so soon. I looked at him with protest on my lips but then, he walked to me and placed his hand on my shoulder, squeezing it softly.
His explanation and the trust most of them had in him seemed to make them all agree, especially since they all saw that Henry was on board too.
I stood up slowly and calmed my heart which was pounding heavily and my shaking hands.
'Thank you Carl for trusting me on this." I looked forward to working with you all and taking Jay Automobiles to the next level, I said and they all clapped. Henry nodded and smiled softly at me while I looked around the room. My eyes landed on the empty seats belonging to Royce and Britney. The duo wouldn't even see me coming.
It was just the beginning and they wouldn't even be ready when I began unleashing my terrors on them.
