The panic call
Chapter 56
The Panic Call
The moment I closed the door after him, my knees buckled and stumbled as I lost my stamina. I gathered the remaining strengths in me and walked into the room. I sat down on the bed gingerly, my heart racing heavily. I only wanted Royce to forget about the idea that I was hiding something out of his head but now, I've pushed him too far with the decision I made, without thinking for that matter. How the hell do I solve this?
Dissolving the relationship between me and Royce was nothing but pure stupidity from my side. How will I handle the aftermath because it surely will bring trouble. I just got myself out of the one my lunatic aunt caused and now I'm deeply rooted in another barely 24 hours later. Christian had spent a lot on making sure the news didn't get out in order to prevent any issues from arising.
‘What have you done Myra!?' I thought. I took my phone from where I had dumped it earlier and dialed Christian's line, only he could think of what I could possibly do because honestly I don't know what to make of the situation before me.
'Myra, I'm in the middle of something important, I told you I'll call you," he said, his voice sounded serious and stressed like he was in the middle of something important.
'I'm in trouble Christian," I deadpanned. My brain began to calculate what possible things Royce could do to me and that made me lose my breathing pace. I began to gasp for air and started hyperventilating within seconds.
'Myra!" Christian called but it sounded as if his voice was a mile away. I tried to follow the sound of his voice and finally got better.
'Take a deep breath and calm down, Myra." He said. He began to take short deep breaths and instructed me to follow his lead and I did as he said.
‘Tell me, what's going on?" he asked after I finally got better. I took a deep breath and told him what I did.
'I broke up with Royce. I swear I only wanted things to get better but it seems I only made it worse." I lamented with frustration.
'My goodness Myra, what were you thinking?" he said calmly but I knew that he was boiling with anger from the tone of his voice. He has never been one to shout at me even if I erred
'I don't know what came over me, first I was getting him to remain unconcerned about what my aunt said but he kept reiterating and wouldn't stop. I panicked! I knew no other way to divert his attention"
'You mean breaking up was the best you could think of? I told you I had everything under control and that I'll get back to you. Why don't you ever listen? This man is the most ruthless of all businessmen in the city and you know it. You know how much of a controlling bastard he is. Breaking up with him… I'm sure he's livid as it is and that could get him agitated. If he had even a bit of mustard seed of trust in you before now, what you did had destroyed it. You better be ready for the consequences." He said firmly
'I know, Christian. I don't know what came over me, I only want to_"
'You know nothing, Myra and congratulations because you just made your life a treasure hunt. He won't stop until he has the truth. You stopped being his friend the moment you broke things off, you both are enemies now.'
'What's the way forward? The deed has been done" I said with resignation.
'Wait till I see how far Royce's investigator has gone. I pray he hasn't found out too much, if he has, I might resolve to unspeakable deeds to settle this"
'You mean kill him?" I asked with shock. I knew what I said about using any means to keep my identity hidden but I never considered killing
'If it comes to that because right now, I'm out of options. However, I seriously pray it doesn't come to that. I'll let you know when I have something for you,'he said dismissively and ended the call and left me pounding about the mess I created.

Unknown POV
The man stared at the brown envelope in front of him containing the results of what he had asked for. It had cost him a fortune because he had requested it rather hastily. He didn't mind though, so far it gives him what he wanted. He had seen her play around for too long and it was time to call her bluffs.
He examined the name on the envelope and nodded with satisfaction. He was glad everything was carried out according to his plan. He took a deep breath and released it,his heart pounding against his ribs. Whatever the papers in it contained would determine his life and worth for the next decades.
He drummed his fingers against his table and took the cutters from the stationery in front of him. With precision, he cut the envelope and brought out the files in it. He moved the lamp on the side of his table to him and directed it towards the wordings on the paper

'Yes!" He said as he hit the air in victory. He returned the files back into the paper and tucked the envelope back into his safe.
He knew something wasn't right with Myra. Her confidence was too much, going around and befriending everyone. A smirk appeared on his face as he thought about what possible things I'd achieve with the new discovery he just made.
But why would she lie about who she is? A voice asked in his head. It sounded nosy but one should indeed be surprised at the same time. If truly Myra is a fake, then who is she and what does he want?
