A game of mind
Chapter 40
A game of mind
My phone buzzed in my pocket, talking it out, I smiled as I saw the message. I tucked it back into the pocket of my jacket and ignited the car. I smiled but frowned at the same time. I was worried about what her reaction would be. After that night when she made me apologize to Royce, we've never had any form of encounter. I made sure to steer clear of her. I wanted no trouble with her because I know well enough that she's more than she looked like. She's an embodiment of trouble and chaos.
However, I have to take laws into my own hands. Even though Selena had told me that she instigated Britney, everything looks too silent for me. I wanted a reaction, something that would cause trouble and make Royce snap but none of that was happening. Royce keeps growing day by day. To prevent that, I decided to have a little chat with Myra, maybe if I'm able to break her, maybe things would become easier for me.
I had someone follow her and now I have her location. It was a popular club, one that only one percent of the influential people visit.
'How typical of her," I said to myself. I took the last turn that led to the club and parked my car. I got out and took the mask lying on the chair beside me. I slipped it on and walked towards the entrance of the club house. Two hefty men stood at the entrance of the club, ready to deal with anyone who erred. I showed them the intricacy on my ring; the symbol for members of the club. Immediately they saw it. They bowed and allowed me to enter the club.
The first thing that hit my nose was the smell of cigarettes, whiskey and money. You couldn't expect less, it is an expensive one and of course, the money in it should be perceived from afar.
'How nice to see you again," one of the VIP strippers said immediately after she saw me. She was the plumpest in all of the girls and had a full bosom that I would love to bury myself in but I couldn't. I wasn't there to enjoy myself, I was here for Myra, I have my eyes on her alone. I gently pushed her hands away from my body and scanned the room. Luckily for me ,she wasn't putting on any mask, I sighted her taking a sip from the glass in her hand, looking as if all the time in the world belonged to her.
‘Well, too bad, I'm going to break that steel of yours tonight,' I thought. I adjusted my suit and walked up to her.
I sat down beside her but she paid no notice of me, all of her attention was on the wine in her hands. I dragged my chair next to her and cleared my throat.
'I am in no mood for anything you want to say, " she said, still not looking at me, probably because she thought I was one of the random men in the club.
'Even if it's me?" I queried and gently removed the mask, covering my face.
'Danni," she said as she saw my face. 'I didn't know you visit places like this but then, there are quite a number of women here, " she said in a way that said that she was making fun of my urge. I smiled and composed myself. I am the one who'll do the cornering, not her.
'I'm actually here for you," I said, getting her attention. She stopped to look at my face.
'Me? How so?" She asked. 'I could have thought that you were here to flirt with me but knowing you, I doubt it. Tell me, Danni, why won't you let me enjoy my drink in peace?" She said and I chuckled. She's indeed smart.
'I'd like to know why you stood behind Royce solidly. Ever since you showed up, you haven't glanced at anyone except him." I said. She stared at me for a very long time, her expressions unreadable. She dropped her glass and I finally managed to see that she was hesitant to talk.
'I tend to see the good in everyone. The fact that you or anyone thinks that he's the bad yoke doesn't mean I have to," she said calmly. She was playing with me, I could sense it.
'I can smell your bullshit from miles away, Myra. You are a smart woman, you know very well that Royce is rotten. Why stand by him, what did he offer you to have you stay?" I asked
'How's that any of your business, Danni. I know you don't care about me, so what's all these?" She queried. I smiled at her, I didn't want to get angry else, I won't get what I want.
'Because I just don't get it. I don't understand why are doing that for him. You were able to find my shit in no time,so I know very well that you know how much of a rotten bastard he is or don't you know?" I asked
She let out a laugh, her face sharp as a knife, holding my gaze. 'I take it you are here to tell me the huge secret that Royce has. I know everything I need to know about him, if I were you I'd worry about myself" she said
'You could say that because I happen to know Royce more than you who came months ago. He's a dirty bastard, Myra." I said but still, I'm bothered about why she told me to be worried about myself.
'Is that jealousy I smelled from you?" She asked, smirking.
'Yes, but first I'm worried. Because even if everyone's been telling you that you are smart and ruthless, you should know when to stop. This thing that you are playing with may burn you. And I'm jealous because, you know"….I stopped without finishing my sentence. I took one full but slowly looked at her body, making sure to linger on her chest.
'Let's just say I thought you'd have picked me over him?"
'Oh yeah? Why would I do that when you aren't even half of the man he is," she said and it stung. How dare she ridicule me?
'Cat got your tongue?" She asked. She knew she had gotten me.
'No." I said. 'However, I fear for your safety. Don't ever think that Royce trusts you the way you trust him. If you become an obstacle, you'll be taken out of the way. My advice Myra: watch your back," I said. She beckoned to the attendance and he came rushing to her. She brought out her card and slid it to him. Taking it from her, he paid through the terminal he held and gave her back. She put it in her bag and stood up.
'Danni," she called softly. She moved closer to me, so close that I felt her scents in my throat. 'If I didn't know you have a wife and other baby mamas across the globe, I'd have thought that you were interested…it's not so right?"
‘What if I'm interested?" I asked, leaning in too.
'That would be dangerous and I'm not sure if you'll go unscath," she said. She winked at me and left me watching after her. One thing became certain with my conversation with her. She didn't seem surprised when I said everything I said about Royce. Could it be that she knew everything and still went ahead to stand up for him? Knowing everything would make things more difficult because it would mean that I now have to work against two forces and that wouldn't be good for me. The earlier I find something the better.
