Don't mess with Myra
Chapter 74
Don't mess with Myra
The world indeed isn't a balanced one. It is nothing but a rollercoaster. One minute you are the talk of town, someone who must never be messed with and then, you are nothing but a fragment of yourself. I never thought a day in my life would come when I'd be holding up in my office, not wanting to be seen. I never thought I'd be afraid of anything or anyone because I used to be the fearless one.
Looking down from my office into the busy streets of New York suddenly made my stomach churned and turned in anger. The peace the scene used to give me from my office as I watched everything and everyone from the top had vapourise. Now, all I see is individuals waiting and pushing for my fall. I knew a storm was coming but unfortunately for me,I had no idea of where it's coming from nor how to prepare for it. The thoughts alone were enough to make me go crazy. I turned towards the television in the wall and my name appeared boldly in it.
‘The Women's League of New York pushes for the investigation of CEO Royce Robben due to allegations by Carl Jonathan.'
‘New Evidence surfaces as CEO Royce is said to be tied to a drug cartel.'
Damn!
Just how did my perfectly buried secrets get out, who'll have the guts to spill it out, could it be Jayden? I can't trust the bastard. Now that he's currently tied to Myra and Percy , there's no end to what he can do.
Myra, I had let my guard down, thinking she was nothing but a woman. Someone, I could use and dump after taking everything from her. But I had failed to realise that she is Bella, the woman I swore to protect in health and sickness. I had done the opposite,I betrayed her and now she won't stop until she sees me ruined.
I should have knew I ran out of luck the moment she had connection with Percy. Even though, I took the company through shady means,at least all I've done over the years was toiled using all of my strength. Now that I've taken the company to the highest pinnacle, he suddenly wants to take it away?
As if I'd let that happen, I thought scoffing. He has no evidence to do that because I have his dairy with me. The bastard had written down everything in it and I had been lucky to get my hands on it.
Maybe it's time you burn it, I thought. I moved my chair to the back , revealing the inbuilt safe attached to my table.
The door of my office swung open as I pressed the first button. I frowned and looked up from the safe. There stood Murphy Allen, looking at me as if I was a piece of shit. His lips were tightened in a knot, the type he had when he's irritated.
'What is this? Do you know how much money I'm going to lose if you end up in jail?" He queried.
'Jail?" I said, scoffing. 'You are being dramatic, I have everything under control."
'No I'm not! Do you even know that the police now have strong evidence tying you to criminal and drug? How do you intend to go about that? And,how the hell did you not know that Myra, that bitch is your wife? Just how much damage did you do to make her change her face?"
'I'm under no duress to answer the last part but as per the evidence. They have nothing on me,there is only one evidence: it's here, in my safe. Also, Carl has no evidence to back up what he said. I didn't do anything to Bella. She ran away with her lover just like I said," I lied.
The frown on his head reduces, he seems to buy this lie. He signed deeply and then moved towards me. He was about to sit in a chair, when a knock sounded on my door. Before I could tell the intruder to go away, the door opened, revealing my lawyer.
He walked in and as he did so, I noticed that he was tense. He looked from me to Murphy as if he had something to say but he hesitated.
'What's going on? Murphy is a friend, you can speak,"I commanded and he nodded.
'Britney got arrested yesterday,"he said.
'What! How did she get arrested?"
'I don't know the details but she was at Myra's. The policemen apprehended her there, something about her trying to flee the country."
'The bitch!" I muttered
'There's more," he said, forcing me to look at him.
'Spill it."
'She was taken in and tortured. She spilled some info , one of them leading to the news about your attachment to a drug cartel. A friend of mine there said she gave them evidence. A piece of book precisely." He said
'A book?" I repeated,my eyes bulged out in surprise
'Could it be the_?" I said and stopped mid sentence. I bent down to where the safe was and pressed the button, opening it. And then I saw that the safe was empty. Britney had sold me out. Murphy seemed to understand the look on my face and rushed to my side. He looked underneath too and saw that the safe was empty.
'It's over," Murphy said
'No, not until I said so,"I replied and took my phone from my desk. I slipped it inside my suit, ready to exit the room. The sudden noise of the siren filled the atmosphere. I stopped on my track and walked back to the window. From where I stood I saw lines of police cars ready to dash into the company but the security team were preventing them.
I thought of running out through the secret door attached to my office but thought against it. Never will it be heard that Royce Robben took to my heels.
'You might want to leave now, Murphy. And you too, I said to my lawyer." They glanced at each other, took one last look at me and got out.
I walked to the mini bar in the room and took my favourite drink. I poured it in a glass and walked to the window, looking down at the drama going on. I watched as the police finally overpowered the guards and made their way through.
'Freeze! Hands up!" I heard minutes later. I turned around and dropped the glass of wine in my hand. I pulled my hand up and watched as one of the police officers walked to me and handcuffed me. Slowly they escorted me out, while I put up no fight.
It was of no use.
By the time we got to the lobby the entire place was filled with journalists. They flashed their cameras towards me, asking questions they probably knew I wouldn't answer. As I shielded my eyes from the flash, I saw Percy and Myra standing side by side, watching how everything unfolds.
While Percy smirked at me ,Myra–Bella's expression was unreadable. She didn't look angry at me but rather she had satisfaction on her face.
At that point I realised that she wasn't someone to be messed with. She had planned her revenge and now she had got me right where she wanted.
