Unsolicited love
Chapter 67
Unsolicited love
I gripped the mouse in my hand with so much pressure that I worry it might break and began to malfunction. It's been a week since Danni and Myra got together as husband and wife. Even though the initial drama that came with the announcement had died down, I still can't forget how hard it had been for me. First, she instructed me to let all media outlets be aware and then I followed her all through the process. Of course I know that that is the responsibility Percy saddled me with but I'd be lying to myself that it wasn't heart wrenching to watch. Every bit of the process felt as though I was being pricked by a needle on my skin. It felt uncomfortable to be told to do such but I have no choice than to do as instructed.
Ever since Percy had taken me to the hospital and I had seen her face damaged, I'd felt drawn to her and felt some sort of empathy for her. When she decided to go through with the surgery, I was all by her side and all through the healing process,I stood by her. She didn't want me to do that though because she was hurting then and even though hadn't been told her story, I knew she was going through a lot. Her eyes carried no emotions then and she lived as if she was just being instructed to do so; more like she didn't like being alive.
Even if I try as much as possible to not let it show, I do like Myra. I've liked her since the moment I met her looking worn out and tired of life. Her liveness eyes had drawn me to her and even though I knew it was a dangerous feeling to have, I still abhorred it and let it grow.
Of course I know she had no place for romantic relationships in her heart. The only thing she wants is to get her revenge but that hasn't for once stopped me from denying how I felt about her.
And now, she has thrown herself into the lion's den as usual, not minding the aftermath. The plan was for her to make her identity known to Royce, who'd have expected that she'll translate it to mean marrying Royce's enemy. Marrying Danni is telling Royce to his face that she was declaring war on him and that she doesn't mind eating with the devil to achieve it. Knowing Royce, he'd probably be running helter skelter, searching for the best way to launch a counterattack while she's basking in her victory.
I hate Royce for doing all he did to her but the hatred I've had for Danni is on another level. The fact that Myra had to bring him into the plan itself was annoying. I hate the modafucker 's face and now I have to deal with seeing him constantly. He's Myra's husband now; meaning I might have to follow his instructions of push comes to shove.
Things are far more than dangerous now, she's now totally exposed and I fear what the outcome will be. If Royce saw her had a threat before, it would definitely increase with the new collaboration between her and Danni.
Unable to stop myself from thinking the worst, I grabbed my phone and dialed Percy's number. He had promised to speak to her the last time, what was he doing while all of this happened? The phone rang and he picked it immediately.
'Let me guess, you don't like what Myra did and you are worried sick about her marrying Danni, " he said immediately he picked, I exhaled slowly in irritation and spoke. He knew me too much that he could even guess the reason behind my call.
'Did you instruct her to do that?" I asked. Percy might be my uncle but he could be weird sometimes too. Who knows what stupid games he played in her mind to make her take so many disastrous decisions?
'Of course I didn't, I told her to reveal her identity but I didn't tell her to marry herself off to Danni, " he said. 'I'm surprised as much as you are"
'She has always been rash and I know she learnt all that from you, but right now I'm more worried that she might get betrayed for the second time. I fear that Danni might pull out and sell her out. It's been heartbreaking to see her fall victim again. Danni is only concerned with his gains in the deal, he'll___"
'Don't you think you are being too dramatic and that you're reading too much into this?" He asked, cutting me off.
'Of course I am, that's my job. You instructed me to be by her side at all times and give her the help she needs, so permit me to be a little dramatic," I said with irritation.
'You are being like this because you like her," He stated blankly and my heart sank
'What do you mean?" I asked, feigning ignorance.
'You don't need to lie to me, I'm your uncle after all. I see the way you look at her from the moment I brought her back and filled you in about her. Your emotional attachment worries me Christian. I fear it will cloud your judgement."
'That's not possible. All I want to do is make sure that she's safe from any form of danger. I have no other motive asides that," I lied
' That's a big fat lie Christian. If you are this attached to her,how do you intend to keep her safe? Is it by making her yours?" He asked and somehow the statement made me feel at ease. The thoughts that I'd be able to keep her safe by my side made my heart race abnormally.
'You have to kill whatever thoughts you have in your head. With all that we have on ground now, there's no time to feel any form of love towards Myra, especially at this crucial moment. A single mistake can get her killed and I know you don't want that to happen to her."
The words he spoke hit a nerve, making me blink hard. It's easier said than done. To suddenly behave as if I felt nothing towards her after having her in my heart for years?
'Ofcourse, I'll make sure to straighten up and prevent any issues for her and us." I said with weariness. I have no choice than to tuck whatever I feel far away and face the issue at hand.
'It's not just about telling me, it's about showing me that you meant what you said. Myra won't accept whatever it is you feel for her, the only thing she has her mind on is revenge for me and her. She has no need for any flimsy feelings that could jeopardize our sacrifices," he added.
'Copy that." I said.
'Good, I need you to listen more to the recordings from Royce's house. He'll definitely want to hurt her again, we need to be ready for him when he strikes."
'I'll take a look at it, " I said and ended the call. All that he said rushed through my head. It wasn't totally a lie. Myra's nobody's property but I'd be lying if I say don't want her to be mine.
