25- Drunk Confession
"Man.. What have I ever done to her?!" Rayan slammed his hands on the counter of the bar, scowling at the dilemma he was stuck in, unsure of what to do anymore but things were destructive- it was crystal clear from the start but too much for his sensitive heart to bear.
"Rayan calm down." Zain said sadly, rubbing his back.
"I get it she is your sister but when did she become so insensitive towards me?" He cried, pulling his hair, drinking, a total mess. Zain pitied his condition but didn't understand why. Rayan turned to Zain, holding his collar hopelessly, "My brother, tell me how many times I have hurt her? How many times have I broken her heart? Hurt her feelings?" He asked with tears streaming down his face in indescribable pain, "Never and never will..." Whispering, he removed his hand, ignoring the tears falling directly on his hands, "Why is trusting me so hard for her?"
"This shall pass..." Zain said, trying to help his friend but his efforts were in vain, Rayan's torment was only known by Isra and she swore to never share compassion for it.
"It never will... I am telling you, our relationship is going to end with separation. She will never give me a chance. You hear me? Never!" He said, putting his head on the counter, crying at his miserable state. "Why is she doing this to me? What have I done to her? Why me? If my feelings are my default .. and even if it is, what kind of reasoning is this? Is my love disgraced to the extent of being rejected over and over again?" He asked, ache glistening in his eyes but he wiped it, emitting shallow breaths to maintain his posture.
"No bro, why do you think like this? I am sure everything will sort you out between you and her one day. Don't be so dejected." Zain said, trying to be optimistic, rubbing his back, smiling faintly to reassure him. "She won't do it. I am telling you, Zain. She won't." He whispered, pulling his hair. "Why?" He asked.
"Because she is stuck on something which happened five years ago and blames me for it! She is making me her culprit when I did nothing. She made my extremity my embarrassment! Neglecting me for something I did for her sake but.. she ended up resenting me." He shouted, breaking into a thundering wail again.
"What.. Do you mean? What are you talking about? What happened between you two?" Zain was getting perplexed, not knowing what he was talking about and knowing Isra, she shared everything with her Brother yet he was unaware of it made him worried.
Rayan stared at his friend's face for a while and then began to laugh out loud. Shaking his hand in the air, laughing at his own vulnerability, "Leave it. I don't even remember my doomsday." He said talking about the day true distance was formed between him and Isra. "Iconic..." He mumbled, sniffing and wiping his tears, not in his senses. "Ah... All I did was the extent of my love for her but she never cared... After seeing the limit, she left me... She left me knowing all too well I love her beyond limits." Zain arched a brow, "You loved her? Why didn't you say it before?" Zain asked, not knowing when Rayan loved her then why he remained silent all this time. "What am I supposed to say when she never felt the same huh?" He scoffed and Zain opened his mouth to ask but he slammed his hands again, "Why?!"
"Rayan-"
"No, believe me Zain my brother. It's not that she doesn't feel the same, she... just doesn't want to accept it." Rayan said breathlessly, pulling his hair. "All these years were an act of friendship but she doesn't want us to break apart just like me still. If she wanted, she could have severed all ties with me, she had the authority to do it but she never did. She kept me close." He chuckled again but the salty tears again dwell, "She knew what I felt, she knows everything yet she made me grow close to her. She knows whenever she is sad only I can support her without knowing. She needs me but will never accept it and yet..." Making his eyes puffy as he growled, "She always feels disgusted at me!"
"You are drunk, let me drop you home." Zain said, getting up, unable to bear watching him like this, also pondering about what happened between them. How can five years old memories ruin their future and present?
"No, what home are you talking about huh?" Rayan asked, holding his hand, stopping him. "The home from where I left my family?"
"Or the home for what my wife calls a cage?!" Zain's eyes widened at his chaotic condition, lost in the devoid where no solace resides. "I don't have a home anymore... I am left all alone, desolated..."
"...I am.. Lost.. What they used to say... Uh.. What was the word..?" He mumbled, "You are just drunk." Zain said, pulling him up.
"Gypsy, dude! I am a gypsy man with no clear destination." He smiled. "You are coming with me."
"No! I don't wanna go. She hates me. No!" And after countless struggles, Zain finally managed to take Rayan home who spoke riddles all the time.
Isra was worried about Rayan's absence. He just left and didn't come. Holding her forehead in vexation, she was praying for his safety. What the hell is wrong with me? Why am I punishing him for something he did for my sake? Why can't I give him a chance?
"Why bear his love is not in my capabilities? Why does he love me so much in the first place?" She was on the verge of crying, falling back on the couch, pulling her hairs out of frustration. She tried calling him but his number was switched off. "Please stop getting hurt for my sake..." She whispered, Pacing around again, she began to blame herself if something happened to him.
Why can't you give him a chance? What has he ever done? You knew it all then why did you run away, Isra? She asked but the bell rang and she hastily opened the door with a horrified face. A sigh of relief escaped her lips to see Rayan clinging on Zain's shoulder, returning to her life.
"Here's your drunk parcel." Zain said impassively. "Where the hell were you?! I tried calling you so many times. You should have told me if you were out with Zain, do you have any idea how worried I was? You could have at least texted me!" She scolded him angrily with a tear in the corner and was about to touch Rayan but he stopped her and laughed jeeringly.
"Haha, since when did you start caring?" She stilled, her heart clenched, "I am sure even if I never return, you wouldn't care. You never did." He mocked with a hiss. That's not.. it. She thought painfully.
Moving away in contrite, she mumbled, "Zain, take him to the room."
"Sure." He nodded, threw him on the bed, Rayan was laughing to himself. Zain left him in the room and walked out, still perturbed about Rayan's drunk confession of an ancient tale.
