24.2- But, I don’t
This is it, Hoorain. She thought but before her lips could part to speak they reached their destination.
Although cutting off was unfavorable on both sides but they had no choice.
'We are here. I should go. Good night." Hoorain whispered quickly, getting out to leave and find another chance to leave but Zain couldn't stay quiet.
The intrigue will eat his sleep, he won't be tranquilized until he knows. She was about to leave but he got out and held her wrist.
'Hoorain, Wait." His stern tone hitched her breath.
'Yes?" She asked, looking down at her wrist in his hand and back to his eyes with a tentative gulp.
'Tell me." He said, refusing to let go of her wrist, assertive gaze refusing to break the contact.
'Why does it matter?" She asked, voice lower than a whisper, moving her hand in his in between to create a gap.
'Of course it matters. You are my fiancée." He reasoned, narrowing his eyes in ire but she looked away with an empty smile.
Biting the inside of her cheek she began to believe in Haziqa's words. His all talks reach their bond not the emotional foundation.
'I see…" She wanted to say many things, there were countless questions but he was not prepared for any of them.
The matter of feelings was always beyond his abilities.
'Zain." She called, staring dead into his eyes, closing the gap between them which perplexed him.
'What do you feel for me?" She asked in a strict murmur, her jaw clenched in rage by the anticipation of upcoming disheart.
'What? Where does this come from?" He asked, brows sewed together in nervousness, chuckling.
'Answer. What do you feel for me?" She repeated her question, tone growing more strict, pressing the back of her palm on his chest.
'I.. don't understand. What happened to you?" He asked, avoiding her question but the longer he delayed the response, the harder her heart broke.
'Answer, Zain. You are so sincere to our bond then why is this simple question so difficult to answer?" She became desperate, pulling him closer.
'Hoorain. It's late-" Taking her wrist away, she held his shirt with her trembling hands.
'Answer, Zain. Please. You are so loyal to your duties, I must have meant something to you, I must have etched some emotions that you are doing this, right?" She smiled hysterically, hopeless for his one shred of reassurance.
She wanted to believe, even in lies.
But she wanted him to say it once.
'Hoorain, you are not thinking properly." He whispered, putting his hands on her shoulders, smiling to console her but she pushed him against his car.
'Please, Zain, answer. Your silence is hurting me." Her voice broke, brimming tears in her eyes and his silence gave her the reply.
But, she needed words. Her delusional mind needed a verbal response.
'What do you feel for me?" She whispered, clutching his shirt between her fingers rigidly, releasing a tear of agony.
'Because I love you. You are the first and only love of my life. I love you so much and your lack of response is breaking my heart." She was on the verge of sobbing.
He was startled at her abrupt confession, eyes widened in disbelief. He knew yet it was hard to sink her emotions in his domain. 'Hoorain-"
'I love you, Zain. I love you, I love you." She repeated her words, putting her head on his chest.
'I always did, For years…" She murmured in her soft cry.
'I don't know how it started, why it started, what happened but it happened and I couldn't stop it, I tried but couldn't and no matter how much I deny, I love you… " She confessed, shutting her eyes, emitting silent tears, refusing to let him go.
And upon hearing his confession, Zain was stunned and removed his hand from her shoulders. Impotent to react to her feelings especially when he was unclear about his.
'And I know I am selfish before my feelings but tell me does this bond, does my feelings, mean anything to you? Speak from your heart and tell me once." She lost her ability to think, his lack of response was crushing her heart.
And she needed something to cling onto as support but he was giving her none and this was excruciating for her, tears glistening in her eyes, looking up at him.
'What do you want me to say? I.. I honestly don't know.. How to respond, Hoorain. I have never experienced something like this. I don't know what to say." He replied honestly, bringing his hand closer and wiping the tears on her cheeks.
He wanted to comfort her but was unsure about what to say.
Sniffling, she wiped the remaining tears and moved back but not leaving her shirt. 'Okay then.." She paused, inhaling deeply.
Mentally preparing herself for his reply, she stared intensely.
'Answer to my one sentence wholeheartedly. Say whatever comes to your mind first. Can you do it for me?" She asked, curling her lips upwards but not in a smile.
'Okay…" He gulped, tensed about what she might ask and drowning in his eyes, she spoke her deepest desire.
"Zain, I want to be with you, forever."
And as per his words, he spoke whatever came to his mind first; unaware it killed her heart,
"But, I don't."
