Chapter 10: He Might Have Recognized You
The four of them went straight back to the mansion. Hungry, Chloe and the two kids devoured the food that Elene had brought back. After the meal, the two little ones went upstairs to take a shower.
Elene looked meaningfully at her best friend. "I don't quite understand why you're avoiding Quintus. Didn't you agree to a divorce back then? Why are you so afraid of him now? And, what was the reason for your divorce? You never told me what happened several years ago."
Meeting her gaze, Chloe subconsciously lowered her eyes. After hesitating for a while, she reluctantly recounted the situation at that time.
"Chloe, you've got some nerve!" Elene couldn't believe that her best friend had the audacity to drug Quintus and secretly conceive his child. No wonder Chloe ran at the mere mention of Quintus's name today!
Chloe sighed with bitterness. "I didn't want him to know about the existence of our children. Besides, I'm afraid he holds a grudge for what I did. With his status, seeking revenge on me would be too simple. If it were just me, I might not be afraid of him, but now, I have two children with me."
She chuckled self-mockingly. "Maybe I'm overthinking it. He might not care about that incident at all. After all, I'm not an important person to him."
"That's not necessarily true!" Elene frowned. "I think he might have recognized your voice. When he came in just now and asked about you, it seemed like he was here to settle a score!"
Hearing this, Chloe was momentarily stunned, and then a pang of pain struck her heart. Indeed, in his eyes, she was probably just a source of resentment left from that night.
Seeing her best friend looking downcast, Elene awkwardly comforted her, "Don't worry too much. Phoenix is a big place, and your jobs aren't related. You may not necessarily cross paths."
Chloe nodded slightly, holding onto the same sliver of hope.
"Mommy!" Suddenly, the voices of the two kids echoed in her ears.
Chloe and Elene quickly changed the topic, glancing at the stairs.
The two little ones had finished their showers, with slightly damp hair and radiant, dewy skin. One was wearing a cow-patterned pajama, descending the stairs.
Approaching the two adults, they tilted their heads, staring with big eyes, and asked, "What are you talking about?"
Seeing the adorable faces of the two kids, Elene's mind was captivated by their cuteness. She immediately crouched down, hugging one in each arm. "How can you be so cute! Do you want to go home with me? I really love you!"
Daniel and Leo were too overwhelmed by her cheek-patting to say a word.
Chloe chuckled at the sight. She quickly rescued her two sons from her friend's clutches and then remembered another thing. "I almost forgot. This trip back to the country was so sudden, and the follow-up work will be busy. I won't be able to have Daniel and Leo with me. I wanted to ask you, is there a suitable kindergarten nearby that they can attend? Also, I need to find a nanny."
The two little ones didn't say anything upon hearing their Mommy's words.
Given their intelligence, they didn't really need to go to kindergarten. However, considering their Mommy's busy schedule, they had to cooperate.
Elene pondered for a moment after hearing this. "As for the kindergarten, there's actually a great option nearby!"
Chloe looked at her friend. "Tell me about it."
"There's an elite kindergarten in the vicinity, quite excellent. It's famous in Phoenix. The children can learn languages from many countries, and the teachers are renowned. Many wealthy families are eager to enroll their children there, so you don't have to worry about the little ones being mistreated," Elene said.
Upon hearing this, Chloe immediately responded, "Really? I'll check online, and if everything looks good, I'll enroll them."
