Chapter 32: Only the Last Breath Left
Seeing her resolute appearance, Felix was somewhat moved, but he still turned to look at Quintus's expression.
Quintus just coldly stared at the woman who was being so persistent, not saying a word.
Observing this, Felix nodded at Chloe, "Please follow me."
Chloe breathed a sigh of relief, trying hard to ignore the man's gaze. She stood up and followed behind Felix, passing by Quintus. Seeing her brother actually taking this young woman upstairs, Amy still felt uneasy and quickly followed them. The three figures disappeared around the corner of the stairs.
Grace, seeing the departure of the pretty lady, reluctantly tugged at her Daddy's collar, wanting him to go upstairs. Quintus retracted his gaze from the corner of the stairs, looked down at the little girl in his arms, and went upstairs.
Arriving at the door of the room, Chloe's peripheral vision caught a glimpse of the sudden appearance of a man. Her heart skipped a beat.
"We're here," Felix said in a deep voice.
Chloe quickly collected her thoughts, forced herself to calm down, and followed him into the room. As soon as she entered, she smelled a strong medicinal odor.
Chloe glanced around the room, only to see a large bed in the center, surrounded by several people in white clothes. They seemed like a medical team specially prepared for Jasper.
This room was likely designed as a medical room specifically for him, as the external rumors suggested that the Quilliam family took his condition very seriously.
Felix led her directly to the bedside of Jasper, saying, "Please take a look at my grandfather."
Chloe nodded and lowered her gaze to assess the person on the bed.
Jasper lay weakly on the bed, his body so thin that only bones remained, his cheeks sunken. He looked like a completely depleted figure.
Seeing the scene before her, Chloe's expression suddenly became serious, and her eyebrows furrowed tightly. Indeed, as Michael had mentioned, the condition of Jasper was already very severe.
Without further delay, after a quick observation, she immediately grasped Jasper's wrist and earnestly began to check his pulse.
Seeing her actions, Felix was momentarily stunned. He didn't expect this woman to be a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, and moreover, for a case like Jasper's, she only conducted a simple pulse examination.
However, during this period, they had consulted both Chinese and Western doctors to cure Jasper's illness, and he had seen various medical approaches.
Seeing Chloe's actions at the moment, he was only momentarily surprised and didn't say anything.
Chloe sat by the bedside, lifting Jasper's hand with one hand and holding his wrist with the other. With lowered eyes, she was completely engrossed in feeling the pulse of him. However, the more she observed Jasper's pulse, the more alarmed she became.
She initially thought that the symptoms described by Michael were already severe enough. Yet, the actual condition of Jasper was even worse than he had described!
During the pulse examination, she also noticed that Jasper's breathing was extremely weak, to the point where it could be said he was on his last breath.
After a while, Chloe released Jasper's hand with a serious expression, stood up, and walked in front of Felix and the others.
"How is my grandfather's condition? Do you have a treatment plan?" Felix had a hopeful look in his eyes.
Chloe frowned, her tone carrying a questioning tone. "Given how serious the situation is with Mr. Jasper Quilliam, why didn't you take him to the hospital? When his life is on the line, why leave him at home?"
