Chapter 22: In My Dreams, It's All About Him
After the two little ones went upstairs, the smile on Chloe's face gradually faded.
"What's wrong? " Elene turned off the TV and leaned in with concern.
Chloe hesitated for a moment, then mentioned the events of the evening, "Just now, I ran into Quintus during dinner."
Six years ago, apart from Elene, there was no one else she could confide in regarding that matter.
Hearing this, Elene was momentarily stunned and couldn't help but sigh, "What kind of fate is this between you two... Phoenix is so big, and I was thinking that if you both didn't actively seek each other out, the chance of running into each other would be almost zero."
Chloe lowered her gaze, lost in thought.
"So, after seeing him, what are you thinking now?" Elene asked.
Chloe bit her lip and replied, "Nothing. We were over six years ago. Now we're just two strangers. I won't let him affect me anymore. For the remaining days, I just want to take good care of Daniel and Leo and live a good life with them."
Listening to her words, it seemed like she had come to terms with it.
Elene breathed a sigh of relief, smiled, and patted her friend's shoulder, "That's good. You're so outstanding, and there are plenty of people pursuing you. Take your time to choose; we don't need that scumbag!"
Chloe nodded slightly, not wanting to continue the topic. She changed the subject, "By the way, I haven't had the chance to buy a car since I returned. The reception tonight, I had to hitch a ride with my colleague. It feels quite inconvenient. Do you have time tomorrow morning to accompany me to pick out a car?"
Elene also shifted her attention and found the idea of buying a car sudden, "Why buy a car? I have several in my garage. Just pick one directly."
Chloe smiled, "That good, huh?"
The two exchanged a glance, and Elene confidently wrapped her arm around Chloe's neck, solemnly declaring, "Of course! After all, you're the biological mom of my godsons. What's mine is yours!"
"Well then, I'll use yours," Chloe replied.
After chatting for a while, they checked the time and realized it was very late. Elene finally reluctantly returned to her own home.
After washing up, Chloe lay in bed but found it hard to fall asleep. After tossing and turning for a long time, she finally entered the realm of dreams.
In a daze, it felt like she was back in that empty private room at the River View Pavilion. She was pressed against the wall, and in front of her was Quintus's enlarged handsome face, dangerously squinting his eyes as he approached.
Just as their lips were about to meet, Chloe abruptly woke up, her body covered in cold sweat. Because of that dream, she almost spent the entire night without sleep.
The next morning, with dark circles under her eyes, she sat at the dining table, accompanying the two little ones for breakfast.
"Mommy, did you not sleep well last night?" Daniel noticed the dark circles under his Mommy's eyes and expressed concern in his sweet and childish voice.
Chloe was briefly taken aback, recalling the dream again. After a few seconds, she casually smiled, "Yeah, I stayed up too late looking at some documents last night."
The two little ones were always perceptive. Chloe was afraid they might inquire further, so after speaking, she pretended to focus on eating, lowering her head.
Seeing this, the two boys exchanged a doubtful glance but didn't press on. Instead, they offered some advice, "Mommy, don't get too tired. Take care of yourself!"
Chloe smiled and nodded.
After breakfast, she took the two little ones to Elene's place to get the car.
"Pick whichever you like." Elene led them to the garage, holding a bunch of car keys, displaying an extravagant demeanor.
Despite their young age, the two kids recognized quite a few luxury cars. Seeing the cars in the garage, they clapped in admiration, "Godmother is so generous!"
After looking around, Chloe chose a mid-priced Benz. Without a second thought, Elene handed her the keys.
With the new car, Chloe personally drove, taking the two little ones to school.
"Goodbye, Mommy! Take care and don't get too tired!" After getting out of the car, the two kids politely bid her farewell.
Chloe patted their heads, "You two, be good at school. Mommy will pick you up in the evening."
The two little ones nodded and walked into the school side by side. Watching their figures disappear from sight, Chloe turned back to her car, started the engine, and slowly left the school gate.
Two minutes later, a Rolls-Royce ostentatiously parked at the kindergarten entrance. Hudson stepped out of the car, opened the rear door with caution, and gently lifted Grace from the car.
Grace got off the car, then turned to wave at her Daddy.
"Bye," Quintus patted the little girl's head gently, his voice gentle.
Grace turned to enter the kindergarten.
Seeing the silhouette of Grace leaving, Quintus's eyes revealed a hint of suspicion. Compared to usual, Grace seemed noticeably happier today. Perhaps spending more time with other kids at the kindergarten had gradually opened up her defenses.
It seems the psychologist was right; letting Grace interact more with other children could indeed help alleviate her autism.
