Chapter 21: Chloe, the Little Wildcat
Grace obediently extended her injured hand for him to see.
Seeing the scars on her hand, Quintus's brows furrowed slightly, "How did this happen? Bullied by other kids?"
Grace hesitated for a moment, then vigorously shook her head.
Not bullied? Quintus was puzzled, "Then what happened?"
Grace picked up her paintbrush again and carefully wrote a word in her notebook, "fall."
"Fell down?" Quintus confirmed with her as he saw the word she wrote.
Grace nodded.
Quintus breathed a sigh of relief, then touched the injured area, "Did the teacher apply medicine for you?"
Grace nodded again.
Quintus nodded and glanced at her delicate white hand, saying, "This wound won't heal in a few days. It still needs medication. Daddy will help you, okay?"
Grace didn't refuse.
Quintus immediately squatted down, lifted the little girl, and then went downstairs.
In the hall, he placed Grace on his lap, sat on the sofa, and instructed Mirana, "Bring the medicine box over."
Mirana complied, quickly bringing over the medicine box.
Quintus took out a spray from it, sprayed a bit on her injury, and then massaged her for a while with controlled pressure. After all, the injury was a bit severe. Even though half a day had passed, it still hurt when touched.
Grace didn't fuss; she just pursed her lips, and her delicate eyebrows wrinkled into a frown. Quintus occasionally observed her expression to see if she was in pain.
Seeing her furrowed brows, he couldn't help but feel a bit lost. This little girl, with her serious expression, did resemble that woman a bit.
Sensing Daddy's gaze, Grace looked up in confusion and noticed his injured lip, pointing at it with a puzzled expression.
The meaning was clear: she was asking him how he got hurt.
Quintus understood her inquiry, soothingly holding her small hand and saying, "It's nothing, just got bitten by a little wildcat."
A little wildcat? Grace was even more puzzled. She grabbed the pen and paper on the coffee table and wrote, "Where did it come from?"
Quintus's gaze darkened slightly, "It came from overseas."
After saying that, he didn't want to bring up the matter of that woman again, fearing he couldn't suppress the resentment in his heart in front of his daughter.
Seeing Grace still looking confused, he directly raised his hand, took the pen and paper from her, "Let's not talk about it. It's about time; Daddy will take you to bed."
Although Grace was still curious, since her Daddy said so, she didn't ask any further questions and obediently let Daddy carry her upstairs.
...
When Chloe returned, the two little ones were still awake, and Elene was accompanying them in the living room, watching TV.
Seeing her come in, the two little ones immediately diverted their attention from the TV and ran over, "Mommy!"
Chloe smiled and patted their heads.
"Have you been drinking?" Daniel smelled the alcohol on her and wrinkled his nose, "I'll make you some sobering tea. Tomorrow morning, your head won't hurt." After saying that, he turned and went into the kitchen.
Leo held Chloe's hand and led her to sit down. He earnestly rubbed her temples and said, "You will feel better after the massage."
Elene looked at these two little boys, so sensible at such a young age. Her eyes, filled with envy, sparkled. "How are you so sensible?"
Chloe smiled at her and said, "Like them? Why don't you go have one yourself?"
Upon hearing this, Elene shook her head repeatedly. "No, thanks. Not everyone born will be as sensible as these two. I just want to steal yours."
Leo chimed in and comforted his godmother, "No need to steal. If you get drunk, we'll take care of you too."
Elene just wanted to hug the little ones and give them a kiss, but seeing both of them busy, she restrained herself and said, "You two are really good. I love you both so much!"
Chloe cringed at her cheesy expression, took the hangover tea brought by Daniel, and sipped it slowly. After finishing the tea, it was already late.
"Alright, I'm fine now. You two go upstairs and rest!" Chloe kissed the foreheads of the two little ones.
Both of them nodded, bid goodnight to Elene, and went upstairs.
