Chapter 61: The Little Mute Could Speak
It wasn't until she watched Quintus's car disappear from view that Chloe pulled the two little ones back into the villa, her expression serious as she squatted in front of them. The two little ones knew that mommy had something to say to them and obediently looked at her.
"Daniel, Leo, listen carefully. From now on, no matter who you meet, you absolutely can't casually mention our family's situation, especially... the fact that you don't have a daddy!" Chloe thought of the situation just now and felt a headache coming on.
If she hadn't interrupted in time, Quintus, being so smart, would definitely have become suspicious!
Daniel and Leo looked at her in confusion and asked, "Why? We really don't have a daddy!"
Chloe's headache intensified. She couldn't possibly tell these two little ones that it was because she was afraid their biological father would come looking for them, could she?
After a moment of silence, Chloe came up with a random excuse, "Because bad people like kids without daddies the most. They know mommy might not be able to beat them, so what if they take you away?"
Upon hearing this, the two very smart little ones glanced at each other. They knew mommy's reason was weak, but reluctantly believed it, "Okay, mommy."
Chloe breathed a sigh of relief and got up, grabbed her bag, and took them to the research institute.
...
Coming out of Chloe's villa, although Grace didn't cry anymore, she was clearly still throwing a tantrum. She pouted and looked out the window all the way, as if Quintus didn't exist.
Quintus had always been unable to deal with her. Seeing this, he sighed inwardly and said in a deep voice, "Are you still mad at me? I apologize to you. I was wrong before, shouldn't have stopped you from making friends. But from now on, no matter what happens, you can't just run away from home whenever you want. You need to communicate with me properly."
Grace turned her head to look at him, no longer staring out the window, just quietly looking down at her little feet.
A trace of helplessness flashed in Quintus's eyes as he reached out to touch the top of her head. "In the future, if something happens, you have to learn to speak out. You can't keep writing all the time. Sometimes writing can't accurately convey your emotions and can easily lead to misunderstandings."
Grace shook her head, shook his hand off her head, her face full of reluctance, and hugged her backpack tightly, which contained her notebook. Seeing his daughter's demeanor, Quintus furrowed his brow slightly but didn't say anything more. Over the years, there had been rumors circulating outside that the princess of the Ellington family was a little mute. Quintus never explained to the outside world.
Grace was never mute. In fact, she started speaking earlier than most children.
However, later she developed autism, and slowly, she no longer wanted to speak. Most of the time, she used pen and paper to convey her thoughts. Even in front of him, she was unwilling to speak. Over time, although Quintus was helpless, he could only gradually accept it. But deep down, he still hoped that his little girl could live a normal life.
Just now, those two little ones said that Grace didn't have many friends at kindergarten, which must also be related to her unwillingness to speak...
Silence prevailed.
When they returned to the mansion, Grace still walked ahead with her head down.
Quintus slowed down his pace, indulgently following behind her as they entered the mansion.
As soon as they entered, they heard Natalie's voice exclaiming, "You are finally back!" Natalie was Quintus's mother.
Quintus raised his eyebrows in surprise, glancing into the living room. He only saw his parents, as well as Stella, all happily surrounding Grace.
