Chapter 9: The First Time Daring to Rebel Against Her
Twenty minutes later, the car slowly came to a stop at the Ellington family mansion.
Grace, refusing assistance, supported herself and slowly exited the car, walking silently ahead. Quintus silently followed behind.
As soon as the father-daughter duo entered, they heard a call. "Grace!"
Stella was leisurely scrolling through her phone in the hall. Upon hearing someone entering, she glanced up. Seeing Grace, she immediately ran over with feigned concern, embracing the little girl warmly. "You're finally back! Why did you run away without saying a word? I was so worried! Are you okay? Did you get hurt?"
As she spoke, she nervously checked Grace's body.
Grace, caught off guard by her embrace, was momentarily stunned.
Stella's insincere voice echoed in her ears, and Grace's eyes gradually returned to their indifferent state. Did this woman really not know why she ran away from home? If it weren't for her warning in the morning that Daddy wouldn't like her in the future, scaring her, she wouldn't have run away secretly.
Thinking about this hypocritical woman in front of her and recalling the beautiful lady she met today. In comparison, that lady genuinely cared about her.
Faced with the insincerity of Stella, Grace suddenly felt extremely uncomfortable and struggled to break free.
"Grace, what's wrong? Don't move; let me check if you're injured." Stella, sensing the resistance from Grace, subtly increased the pressure.
Feeling the pain from Stella's grip, Grace struggled even harder, making her resistance more apparent.
A hint of imperceptible impatience flashed in Stella's eyes. This mute girl would shrink and remain silent whenever she privately disciplined her in the past. This was the first time she dared to resist!
If it weren't for Quintus's presence, Stella wouldn't have allowed her to be so audacious!
Fearing that Quintus might notice something unusual, Stella, with a glint in her eyes, loosened her grip. She followed Grace's force and ended up sitting on the ground.
She looked at Grace in astonishment, saying, "Grace, I know that you've never liked me, but I am really worried about you. Why are you..." As she spoke, her tone choked up, and her eyes turned slightly red.
Quintus took off his coat and turned around just in time to see this scene. He frowned and pulled Grace to his side, saying, "Grace, Daddy knows you're not happy, but it's okay to vent on Daddy. However, you can't treat others this way because it's very impolite, you know?"
Upon hearing this, Grace felt wronged. Daddy always spoke up for this bad woman! In defiance, she shook off Quintus's big hand, hugged the doll tightly in her arms, and ran upstairs.
Seeing the troublesome mute girl leave, Stella slowly got up from the ground and said softly, "Grace just came back, probably got scared outside. Don't blame her..."
Quintus, indifferent, interrupted her, "You can go back. She is still upset; she probably doesn't want to see you."
Stella's expression froze for a moment, and after a while, she awkwardly smiled, "Alright, I'll come to see her another day."
With that, she lowered her head and quickly walked away.
Once out of Ellington family mansion, Stella's expression changed abruptly. That little brat, she actually got found and brought back! She even dared to give her attitude! Why didn't she die outside! What a pity!
At Drunken Immortal Restaurant,
After Quintus left, Elene deliberately stayed for a while longer. When the time was right, she came out.
She walked quickly to the car.
As soon as Chloe saw her, she immediately opened the car door for her. "Are you okay? Did he leave?"
Elene got into the car and sighed, "He's gone. Didn't you see the way he looked at me? It was like he could see through everything. I almost couldn't handle the pressure and would have spilled the beans about you."
Chloe smiled gratefully, "Thank you. Shall we go to a different place to eat? My treat."
Elene waved her hand, "No need. I packed the leftovers. It's not easy to get a reservation at such a fancy restaurant. We should savor the meal properly."
