Chapter 59 Can't You Speak Nicely?
Quintus had little experience in comforting children. In the past, whenever Grace threw a tantrum, he would always leave it to Mirana to handle.
Now, seeing his daughter crying in front of Chloe, he felt a hint of panic, but he composed himself and ordered sternly, "Stop crying."
He thought his words lacked any emotion. But to Grace's ears, they sounded harsh. As soon as the words fell, Grace cried even harder. Tears streamed down her face like a continuous line, and she choked on her sobs, almost unable to catch her breath.
Quintus furrowed his brow, unsure of how to react.
Seeing the little girl cry like this, and her father's cold response, Chloe couldn't bear it anymore. She asked, "Is this how you treat your child? She's crying like this, and you're still speaking to her in that tone? Can't you speak nicely?"
Quintus was suddenly reprimanded by her, and he paused in surprise.
Chloe strode over to Grace and crouched down to scoop the little girl into her arms, her voice gentle, "There, there, Grace, don't cry. If you like, you can come and play with me and the two little friends anytime. I will give you a contact number. Just give me a call when you come. Don't cry, sweetheart. Now you look like a little kitten, not pretty at all."
On the side, Daniel and Leo had already grabbed tissues and were waiting nearby. Chloe comforted the little girl while wiping her tears with a tissue.
Grace gradually stopped crying as Chloe comforted her, sniffling as she nestled into her embrace. Chloe hugged the little one tightly, gently patting her back.
Daniel and Leo, seeing Grace cry like this, felt a surge of indignation. Their eyes locked onto the man not far away, brimming with discontent.
"Why won't you let her be friends with us?" Daniel couldn't help but question. "We haven't done anything to her, have we? Both times she got lost, it was mommy who took care of her, and she was well taken care of. Both my brother and I played with her, and she seemed happy with us. We're not bad people."
Quintus hadn't expected this little one to dare to lecture him too. He remained with a stern expression, unsure how to react. His reluctance to let Grace be friends with them was entirely due to another concern, but this little boy was so outspoken.
"She doesn't have many friends at kindergarten. Only my brother and I don't mind her tagging along. Before, she was bullied at kindergarten, and my brother and I helped her. If she doesn't want to be friends with us, do you want her to be all alone at kindergarten?" Leo also questioned, unable to contain his frustration.
Both of the little boys kept questioning him like this. Quintus's mind was in turmoil.
Seeing him remain silent for a while, the two little ones thought they had figured out his thoughts, which made them even more frustrated.
After holding it in for a while, Daniel finally spoke out what was on his mind. "We protect her and play with her. But now you're acting so guarded against us. What exactly do you think of us?"
Upon hearing his brother's words, Leo vigorously nodded in agreement. The two little ones glared angrily at the man in front of them, feeling deeply saddened.
The man in front of them was their father. But he had abandoned mommy before they were even born. Now, he didn't even like them, and he wouldn't even let his daughter be friends with them...
