Chapter 4: Better to Die Outside
A speculation crossed Chloe's mind – could this little girl be mute? Thinking of this possibility, she felt even more compassion for the little girl.
She spoke softly, "Give your hand to me, okay?" Saying that, she reached out her hand.
The little girl looked at her timidly, and upon hearing her voice, her expression softened a bit. Chloe was patient, waiting for the little girl to slowly accept her.
After hesitating for a while, the little girl tentatively extended her hand towards Chloe. Chloe gently grasped it, helping her up with a smile, and then checked her condition.
This interaction brought the two closer together. The little girl's body was soft, and a milky fragrance emanated from her.
Chloe's heart softened, and she couldn't help but think of the child who had passed away. If she had grown up well, she would be about this age now! Thinking of this, her eyes revealed a trace of tenderness and regret.
The little girl seemed to sense her emotions and obediently remained still, but her big eyes were always fixed on Chloe's face. Even though she knew she shouldn't get close to strangers, this woman seemed really pretty. Moreover, for some reason, she felt an urge to get closer.
Seeing this scene, Elene exclaimed, "This little girl is really exquisite, her looks are not inferior to our two big treasures at home!"
Chloe finished the checkup and nodded, "I think she must have gotten separated from her family. Let's take her to the police station and see if we can contact her family."
As she finished speaking, the little girl by their side suddenly tugged at Chloe.
Chloe looked down in confusion. The little girl kept shaking her head, her watery eyes slightly turning red, as if she was anxious and about to cry in the next second. Clearly, she strongly resisted Chloe's suggestion.
Seeing the pitiful look on the little girl's face, Chloe felt her heart breaking. But there was no other way. The girl was so young, and if Chloe didn't take her to the police station promptly, she might end up being accused of kidnapping. She was quite troubled.
"We don't have to go to the police station." Chloe crouched down and negotiated with the little girl, "But do you have your mom and dad's phone numbers? I can call them to come pick you up."
At the words, the little girl stopped shaking her head. She just looked sad, her beautiful eyes dimming.
After waiting for a response for a while, Chloe thought the girl didn't understand, and was about to reluctantly take her to the police station. However, the little girl suddenly moved. She took out a pen and a small sticky note from her pocket, wrote a string of numbers on it, and added "Daddy" at the end. Then she handed the sticky note to Chloe.
Chloe took it, dialed the number written on the note, and called the girl's father.
"It seems she's a little mute," Daniel and Leo whispered.
Chloe stopped, glanced at her two sons, and warned, "Don't talk about her like that."
The two little guys immediately stood up straight, smiling nervously at the little girl.
The little girl glanced at them and instinctively moved closer to Chloe, clutching the hem of her skirt. Unaware of this, Chloe double-checked the number and pressed the dial button...
In the Ellington family mansion.
Quintus, with a solemn face, entered the mansion's gate. "Has Grace returned?"
Grayson approached with a worried look. "No, she has not been seen." As he finished speaking, he felt a strong aura emanating from Quintus.
Quintus pursed his lips into a cold, stern curve, his eyebrows furrowed tightly. Every possible place had been searched. Where else could that little girl have gone? Could something really have happened?
At the thought of this possibility, a surge of murderous intent gathered in Quintus's demeanor, as if he wanted to destroy everything in the world.
At that moment, a glamorous woman rushed in from outside, looking very anxious. "Quintus, I heard that Grace is missing? Is it true? Have you found her?"
It was Stella, the person Quintus once intended to marry!
However, upon seeing her, Quintus's expression turned imposing without anger. "Not yet. You came just in time. I wanted to ask, what did you say to Grace this afternoon? She was fine, so why did she run away from home?"
Stella was taken aback by his questioning, looking surprised. She then stared at him in shock. "What do you mean? Are you suspecting that I did something to her?"
She appeared somewhat hurt as she responded, "I didn't! You know that over these years, I treated Grace like my own. Even when she was cold to me, I continued to treat her well. I never said a harsh word, how could I possibly do something to make her run away from home?"
As she spoke, there was a hint of grievance in her expression. Her eyes turned red, portraying an innocence that seemed extreme. However, in the depths of her heart, hidden from others' view, she wished that the little mute girl would never come back!
In the afternoon, Stella did say some harsh words to the little mute girl, telling her that once she married Quintus, she would have even cuter siblings. By then, Quintus wouldn't like her anymore! Because that little illegitimate child was mute, she wasn't worried that she would complain to Quintus. She just didn't expect her to actually run away from home!
Great that she was missing! It would be even better if she could die outside, then she wouldn't have to worry about her coming back!
