Chapter # 26
The next day, Nathaniel and De Villiers were in the hall of the apartment. They knew staying in hotels could be suspicious.
The police were looking for them vigorously and to avoid needless troubles, they stayed low at the moment.
'We are doing our best to find this man. From my search, I can definitely tell that the one we saw last year was nothing but a decoy to fool the public."
'Stupid office, the more he will get involved, the more he will lead his death. Just silence him or shut his mouth," De Villiers muttered, not caring about it.
'We are hunting the man to whom the jet belonged to along with the autopsy of the third ace, Guru's body.
We are dealing with the number one ace, the vicious mafia leader, Plague Doctor. It is going to be deeper than-"
Sighing in disappointment, he turned off the LED, rolling his eyes out of boredom.
'The investigator office has confiscated our jet. Good thing I registered it under a fake name and identity," Nathaniel sighed in relief.
'What should we do about him?"
'Let him sniff around, when we will realize that it is more of a political matter than an illegal one, he will be dealt with,"
Nathaniel waved his hand, well aware of his connections and their benefits.
His information, his ultimate protection, the black money, everything.
He knew he was untouchable and if he drowned, he would bring a riot and destroy everyone along.
They were too scared of him and wouldn't enrage him.
'What about Guru-"
Nathaniel pointed his finger at De Villiers seriously to not speak further about it.
'Don't mention him here. I don't want Zari to see-"
Only to receive a playful smirk from his friend.
'You like a fucking ruthless beast who devours souls?"
'I said shut up, De Villiers. Do not mention his name before her. We will find that motherfucker after returning. Okay?" He growled.
He knew he was sensitive in their matters and to not let Zari witness how unbearable this topic was for him, he kept him and his emotions at bay.
For now. But, had no idea for how long he possibly could.
Curling his hand in a fist, he slammed them down, cursing under his breath until Zariah came who heard his talks slightly.
'Find who?" She smiled faintly.
'Oh, hey. I am talking about Zoran. He escaped this time but I will catch him later." Nathaniel changed his words quickly, tone changing into a sweet one.
'Yeah, you said it was a fake. I praise his bravery to piss you off."
She chuckled, serving breakfast to both of them as he indulged in that brief moment. How beautiful it seemed, them, having breakfast, sharing a sweet moment.
'Me too."
And then Amanda came, pushing her hair behind with a grin shining on her features along with a coo.
'Boss~"
Nathaniel sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
'And there she goes again,"
'Can-"
They were having breakfast and there was one thing which could excite her this much- shopping. And they were not supposed to go.
'No, not right now, Amanda." Nathaniel ordered strictly.
'Come one, Boss, we are here, we should go out and enjoy! This is my first time in India," She whined, placing her hand over De Villiers shoulders.
He smiled faintly, taking her hand and kissing it faintly, causing her to blush at his one gesture. He knew she was utterly devoted to him.
And believed she deserved a chance in life too so he was willing to be a good husband for her.
'As if I live here," Nathaniel muttered.
He used his phone as Zariah offered him a bite since he was busy. He smirked, he did this on purpose so she could feed him.
'Amanda, the police have sealed the paths, we are stuck here for a week or so. I don't think we should go out," De Villiers whispered, giving her hands an assuring squeeze.
She whined, 'But, I want to, De Villiers and you are here to protect me,"
'You seriously love acting like a housewife, don't you?" Nathaniel mocked, watching the two unexpected people being all cute.
'Why not? He is my life partner. I can do anything for him." She grinned, hugging him from behind.
'Yeah, yeah, now I would appreciate it if you have breakfast," He laughed a little, making her sit and making her plate so she could feed well.
'Sure,"
'Do you have money?" Zariah asked vaguely after they had breakfast.
He hummed, 'Yes, I converted it. Why do you ask?"
'Um, then I want to go too." She whispered.
Putting the plates back after washing them, leaning against the counter with anxiousness creeping on her features.
'What?"
'Can we... go on a date?" She suggested nervously.
It wasn't the place but watching how adorably Amanda spoke what she wanted easily, how they two behaved, it evoked the spark in her too.
To hold him like this, whine like she did, pouting in the end. She wanted to experience things as couples.
Placing his phone down, he turned to Zariah with a stern expression, furrowing his brows.
'Seriously?"
Shaking her head, she waved her hand in the air, his seriousness made her nervous and she didn't want to disturb him either.
Not after getting in trouble when he told her not to go.
'Sorry, we are here in hiding, it will be so wrong. Forget it. We should-"
He sighed, 'Get ready,"
'What?"
'Yeah, who knows when we will visit this country again. Let's go out on a stroll… on a date," He replied nonchalantly.
Rising from his seat before standing behind his woman who smiled shyly. How petite she looked when his hard chest was pressed against her.
He smirked and tugged the strand behind her ear.
'Really?"
'Zari, what type of lover would I be if I can't fulfill your small wishes? Darling, you want to go, I will take you. Get ready." He whispered, kissing her cheeks and with a timid nod, she went.
Frowning at them, De Villers growled, 'How dare you, Boss,"
'What?"
'Amanda,"
'Yes, Honey?"
'Get ready. If they are going then we will too. Wear that yellow sundress, it looks beautiful on you. Did you bring it?"
'Sure~ I know you love that dress." She giggled, blew a kiss at him and went.
'You were going to go anyway," Nathaniel muttered, taking a seat again.
After she left, Nathaniel, who failed to picture them more than colleagues, was staring at De Villiers.
He never perceived that they could be a couple and it was hard to believe that they were spouses.
'What?"
'Didn't expect you to act like a husband, you couldn't maintain a relationship for six months and look at you now," Nathaniel chuckled a little.
Seeing him tying the knot, moreover with Amanda, someone he never lifted his gaze towards was shocking.
'Boss, if my two words of affection and attention are lifting her spirits then why won't I do this?" He shrugged his shoulders.
'Look, how her face glowed when I showed interest in her clothes. As her husband, it is my duty to ensure we lead a smooth life. When she is giving her all then I will too,"
De Villiers made a logical point. He was willingly giving his all to his marriage, to work that bond wholeheartedly, to lead a good future.
Nathaniel hummed in agreement, leaning back on his seat as he smiled faintly to himself.
'And Amanda is as much as love-deprived as your Zari so I hope you understand that your two words mean too much."
'What do you mean?"
Sighing, when Nathaniel arched an eyebrow suspiciously, not sure if it was a taunt or an indication towards something.
Frowning, De Villiers rose from his seat, knowing it was futile to beat around the bush and responded bluntly.
'Instead of revolving around your hatred, purpose and work, see her as a human, as a partner first. Not someone you have to manipulate to become yours blindly,"
With disappointment, he was about to leave.
With dismay creeping on his features, like he failed to understand his emotions and asked him vaguely.
'Is it my fault that I want to become her world, be the center of her attention, to only exist in her mind, to make her blind for me?"
He didn't know if that darkest desire of his was right or not, was it moral or not. All he had longed enough and won't allow further distance.
‘You are his son after all. I couldn't expect less,'
Thinking, he merely shook his head and walked away with no reply, leaving Nathaniel bewildered.
