Chapter # 65
After a week of staying, Nathaniel suggested Amanda to stay with him in case she needed something and mourn peacefully.
Also to be mentally prepared to enter the apartment her husband won't be able to return to ever again.
They were busy discussing where to stay as it couldn't be hideout anymore in the cabin. Elton entered the hideout searching for Zariah.
Fumes emitted from him the second he came to know that Alice's demise was her fault, the news made him lose his mind.
'You…"
His features hardened, glaring at Zariah who was mentally prepared for everyone's wrath and remained motionless.
'How can you show your face after giving him the most trouble and suffering?" He snapped.
Approaching her angrily, pushing her by the shoulder.
'Your anger is valid, Elton," She whispered, holding her elbow, not raising her gaze.
'Damn right it is!"
Exhausted her strength was deprived, not enough to argue or justify further, allowing him to express his fury and bearing with it.
'You are a destroyer of homes! A person like you is bound to be miserable."
'They were always right about it, a killing machine can never under emotions!" He snapped, losing his strength, tears glistening in his eyes.
'You killed my Alice! She was the only thing good that happened to me and you took her away too!"
Breaking into a weak sobbing, the wrath gathered attention as everyone gathered to see what was happening.
Zariah stood, filled with extensive shame, not expecting a slightest glimpse of compassion. Curling her lips in a dejected smile, she whispered.
'I am sorry,"
'You are-"
Now allowing Elton to continue his trail of resentful statements that were flaring her already scorched heart, Nathaniel came in between.
'Elton, enough,"
Staggered, Zariah looked up at his broad shoulders, standing before her, not permitting him to disgrace her further or point his finger.
'What the-"
Elton hissed, yanking himself away and clutched his chest painfully.
'She killed my Alice, Boss! I won't forgive her!" He cried.
He was about to shift his glare to Zariah but Nathaniel hid her behind his shoulder.
To him, he could hold complaints, not one else.
His eyes were hollow yet to hear a wrong statement about her was beyond his endurance as his body instinctively reacted.
'I hate you, Zariah! You know what? You don't deserve happiness! You are the worst person!"
'Elton, enough, I know you are heartbroken but do know, those who are meant to die, no one can prevent their death,"
Nathaniel breathed out, approaching him steadily.
Gesturing him to relax as Eltaon was disliking his inclination to shelter the one who razed his home.
'But, she- she,"
Elton shivered and was about to curse her but wrapping his hand around his shoulder, Nathaniel pulled him into a side hug.
'It's all Brandon's fault. He hired her, she didn't even know then why blame and he had already paid then why this grudge?" Nathaniel whispered, patting his back to cool down.
A few tears rolled down, gripping onto him to be stuck in this loop of endless tribulations on them and their lives, the trails were never ending.
'You know I have always wanted you to move on and start a new life, not this pathetic one, don't stay at this point,"
Nathaniel continued reassuring him, pulling away a little. Offering him a handkerchief to wipe those tears.
If allowed by destiny, he would have wholeheartedly accepted Elton as his brother-in-law. He was always soft towards her nonetheless.
'Sir, it hurts and how can you say when you yourself have been in love with her for two decades?"
Wiping his tears, Elton almost taunted about an undeniable fact, making a valid point that left both of them speechless.
'Did you change your first lover? How can you expect me to do the same?"
Inhaling sharply, Nathaniel forced out a smile, giving his shoulder a soft squeeze to cool his rage down and think rationally.
'Mine is here, right beside me but yours aren't alive so please, for someone who cares for your future. Please move one,"
He opened his mouth to argue but the boundary of respect sealed his words.
Frowning, he moved back, against it but for him, he sighed in defeat.
'But, I won't forgive her," He insisted, making a sour face.
He smiled and gave his back a pat, 'Okay but do know that you cannot hate the mother of my child,"
'Why would I hate- Oh…"
Making an understanding face, his frown deepened but the gentleness on his face vanquished his fury.
Lowering his eyes, he asked innocently, 'Are you happy?"
He replied without thinking twice, 'Yes,"
'I see… if that's what you want,"
Nodding, he bore with the heavy fact and pointed his finger at her for the final time before leaving.
'But, I will still not forgive her,"
Elton left while Zariah continued to stare at Nathaniel, how eye-catching he looked when he stood before her like a shield.
Her throat dried, holding his shirt from behind with eyes conveying endless affection, seeking his shore.
With his one hand in his pocket and pushing the hair behind with the other, he glanced over his shoulder, finding the woman staring in mesmerization.
His heart unintentionally skipped a beat, words vanishing from his tongue.
Pulling his shirt, she eradicated their distances, tilting her head adorably to drown in him, linked to a symphonic sensations which moved their hearts in rhythm.
Gradually placing his hand over hers, he inhaled sharply to keep his composure in one place, failing his breaths blended with her, leaning down.
'Stop staring,"
'Then stare back at me and end my pain,"
Murmuring, he removed her hand that caused her to turn him and confront her despaired orbs requiring his embrace.
'You being angry with me is killing me, I know you are hurting too,"
Taking his hand, she placed it over her heart, 'Only you are capable to inducing pain here in me,"
Regaining his lost senses, his breaths hitched, abruptly pulling away from her, he awkwardly turned away.
'I am going to the hospital to resign and make arrangements for us to return,"
Biting her bottom lip anxiously, she asked, attempting to hide her pain.
'What about Zoran?"
Clearing his throat, he turned to leave, igniting embers in her heart by one negligence and it penetrated a needle in his chest.
Turning to leave he replied coldly, 'He is also coming back, I will end him where he ended my family,"
And disappearing her grief, he placed his hand over her head, giving her hair a slight ruffle.
'I will end this loop of resentment. My child doesn't have to see me like this,"
Before she could respond, knowing it was directed to the child not her but not allowing her to admire him further, he left.
Knocking on administrator's office, holding his resignation letter, he entered, 'Director Kim,"
Only to find Officer Bob there too. He ordered De Villiers to end him and before he could carry out that order, he lost his life.
'Oh, hello, Dr. Alroy," Bob smiled, waving his hand at him.
'Oh, Officer Bob,"
'Ah, Nathaniel, I heard your brother died. I didn't know you had a brother. I am so sorry for your loss," Kim paid his condolences as Bob left them alone.
Nodding, he didn't have enough strength to express grief as he gave his letter.
'It's alright, um, here,"
His jaw dropped when he read the papers, slamming them angrily on the table, 'What? You want to resign too?"
'Yes, I will wrap all of my work today and return my employee card too,"
Making a disapproving face, he was filled with rage when the condition of his hospital was confronting a critical time.
'We first find out Keith was using a fake degree and now leaving too. One a deceiver and the other best surgeon of mine leaving. What about your research papers?"
He used reason to make him stay but to no avail. Forcing a hollow smile, he shrugged it off.
'I will send them before leaving, you can publish them under your name,"
Loosening his shoulders, he curled his lips downwards, not preferring his departure but his best was resolved to leave.
Sighing, he asked softly, 'Is everything alright?"
'Yeah, I am going back to America, my home is waiting for me."
He arched an eyebrow questioningly, 'What is waiting for you at your home?"
'My future,"
Taken aback at the strenuous reply, he nodded, not questioning further and signed the papers.
'Okay… take care,"
'Thank you,"
Exchanging a nod out of respect, Nathaniel walked out only to find Bob waiting for him. Leaning against the wall, making a failed attempt at whistling.
Nathaniel smirked at his endeavor and whistled, 'You can't do this,"
Chuckling nervously, he went after Nathaniel who walked down the corridor to check on his patients for the final time.
'Hey, listen,"
'I thought a lot about your offer,"
Stopping, he raised an eyebrow, going away from people, 'And?"
'I have people I adore who can look up at me like I am their ideal. My wrong step will ruin their point of view. Kill me if you want,"
And for a heartbeat, he recalled, his father did the same. He intended to follow the same trail.
And it halted him
Ending in a sigh, he returned the dagger he took from him. Nathaniel was taken aback, looking up at him and back at the dagger.
'Bob,"
'Hmm?"
Taking it back, he pointed it directly at his throat, the blade stopping when it touched his skin.
Bob's body flinched, mentally prepared to die as the consequence of diving into this matter.
'How old is your son?"
He gulped, 'Ten, why?"
Smirking in return, he pulled back the dagger, hiding it. Releasing the breath he stopped.
He sighed in relief as Nathaniel gave his shoulder a pat before walking away, granting the officer his breaths back.
'Take good care of him,"
