Chapter # 38.2
SOMEWHERE
'You know what, Bashar? I am glad makeup has advanced so much that one looks entirely different,"
The hazel-eyed man smirked at his reflection.
'You shaved your beard, wore lenses, and did a nose job. How desperately are you attempting to change your looks?"
'As long as I am unrecognizable," His smirk widened.
'Anyways, How are you planning to give your father redemption, Sir?"
Bashar asked Zoran who was wearing his contact lens, wrapping a muffler around his neck to conceal his mark too.
Inhaling sharply, he checked his reflection in the mirror, pleased with his looks, some concealed by surgery, some by makeup.
'I won't, Bashar, someone else will,"
'Who?"
Flashing a malicious hint, he declared how his father was supposed to attain his redemption.
'The one who wants to save him desperately, the one in my debt,"
AMSTERDAM,
After their confrontation, Zariah found herself obstructed by the unfavorable feelings, his reactions, his demeanor, everything was disturbing her.
His personality changing, becoming hopeless from a stone-cold one was worrying her.
'I seriously don't know what to do anymore, this is seriously disturbing me, De Villiers,"
Sighing, she was with De Villiers to relieve her distress, as his best friend, he must have known something.
'I can understand, our feelings are mutual in this matter. This disturbs me equally," He smirked dryly.
Holding his arms at his back as they were walking down the corridor of the warehouse, he was inspecting things.
'I say why are you in Amsterdam but not in France? I doubt Sebastian had given you it's authority too,"
'Call us guests here,"
'I see,"
After walking for a while in silence, when the survey ended, De Villiers took her his office.
Groaning in frustration, she fell on the couch.
'Ah, I wish I could be like you guys, you know?" She whined, rubbing her temples.
Tilting his head in confusion, he asked, 'Us?"
'To be honest, I didn't expect you and Amanda to become a couple, I thought you were only work pals," She smiled sheepishly.
Hearing it, he couldn't help but to chuckle anxiously, explaining to her how that so-not-dreamy even happened.
'We were, I had never seen from a romantic point of view. This was only a mistake. A drunk one night stand that led to her being pregnant," He justified how they married and reached this point.
'You guys had a one night stand?"
'Yes." He smirked.
'And I am no cowards nor someone who flees from their obligations. So I did what I considered right, I married her," He explained, firmly believing what he did was right by taking responsibility.
Lowering his gaze gradually, he placed his hand over his heart, expressing his emotions sincerely.
'Now me, my emotions, my body and soul, all is hers because she is mother of my child,"
Zariah's face glowed upon hearing, wanting to hear it from Nathaniel too. How he had embraced his position and obligations willingly.
Ending with a small laugh, he pointed his finger playfully at her. 'And this is the highest place a man could give to his woman- to me at least- start a family with her."
He laughed a little, worried if it sounded silly.
'Like a promotion in life, I guess."
'Highest position you say?"
And when she heard it, she knew she must attain that position by all means.
Clutching her chest, her eyes cascaded to her laps, a brief smile adorning her lips to clasp this position, at the peak, at extremity, at intensity-
She knew she was there but she wanted this to be explicitly transparent.
'Was I wrong?"
'Hmm. You are right. It is such a beautiful bond, an eternal journey beside each other till death do us apart,"
'I can say this but it doesn't sound too good from a divorced woman." De Villiers taunted, wiping her smile.
She hissed, 'Hey, the man is still the same so it doesn't count,"
'To be honest, I still can't believe you are the same Zariah," He joked.
'Me too but I guess this is what love does to you. I mean, look at you and Amanda, I never imagined you two as couples,"
'Yeah, yeah,"
Not imagined he would find the robotic, heartless Zariah in such an emotional and vulnerable state, surrounded with keen feelings.
But, she had come a long way and lost everyone too.
What good hiding her feelings would do now?
If she won't show emotions now then when?
If not express feelings to him to whom she would?
'I wish I could do something for Nathaniel too,"
'If you want to eradicate this side of him then you must end the root of evil and only you can do this." De Villiers suggested the only option available.
But also a risky and dangerous one.
Because that would either augment his fury, throw her out of his heart to raze his revenge or might liberate him from his shackles.
'If any of us did… he would kill us, even me. You can just get away, I think," He exhaled, rubbing his temples in distress.
Her mouth gaped, 'End the root of evil…?"
She had seen Nathaniel's behavior towards him, how sensitive he was regarding his prey, he would lose hell if anyone but him grazed his skin.
'The idea sounds horrible, more like provoking a lion," She chuckled emptily, waving her hand to shrug it off.
'Else your Nathaniel will reach an abyss where he would be stuck forever,"
'Isn't it too late for that?"
'He is willing to change for you, it is not," He reminded her firmly.
'Who is he exactly?"
'Guru, an assassin from Valencia's time, him and his son Zoran massacred the ill-named family, Alroy,"
Becoming disquiet, she failed to comprehend why and how managed to massacre the highest and scariest family in the first place.
'And the vengeance for that is too transparent," She breathed out, heartbeats falling low apprehensively.
'Nathaniel's human prisoner,"
Hissing, De Villiers came closer, telling Zariah what monstrosity Nathaniel had done to him for a murder.
'For ten years. He has been torturing him. Killing his whole lineage, he is tormenting the bloodline for it,"
Placing his hand over her shoulder reassuringly, he walked away after pushing her into abysmal thoughts,
'And the only one who can save him is you,"
‘Fuck.. what should I do?'
After discussing with De Villiers, her mind was going through a dilemma but the resolve of him being hers only.
She knew as long as he would exist, her position wouldn't be supreme.
He must be eradicated so only ‘she' could exist…
The following week, after being determined, Zariah came back to De Villiers who was perturbed because he had not the slightest fathom how Nathaniel would react either.
'Are you sure? I will keep myself out of this," De Villiers warned, putting his hands up defensively.
She responded coldly, 'Fine. I can do anything for him, you should know and realize it by now,"
'Such hopelessness is not good, Zariah,"
To which she laughed mockingly, bewildering him. Furrowing his brows, he asked what wrong did he speak.
'What?
She was about to leave but stopped in her tracks, declaring with a frenzied glimpse.
'You are saying this to the worshiper of his existence,"
He smirked, shaking his head and decided to go out for work to pretend he had no connection with her deadly stunt as he valued his life.
With determination, she entered as no one dared to stop her either.
To her, he was the thorn of her path.
Glancing down at the burned, writhing in pain man who was begging for demise at this point, done with the perennial pain.
He could barely open his eyes and perceive who it was, afraid it was not ordered to beat him as he couldn't bear further anguish.
Narrowing her eyes, not that Zariah had any mercy or pity for the man, in the end, she was bound by her nature.
Nothing but Nathaniel mattered after so putting her foot over his face, she reloaded her gun coldly.
'Do you want redemption?"
'Yes…" He whimpered.
'Then beg me for it,"
Smirking darkly, she pressed his foot harder into the ground, blaming him for his man's animalistic nature, considering it ‘his' fault.
With tears springing, he begged sincerely, struggling with those chains, dying to find liberation from these fetters due to his one mistake.
'Kill me… please… kill me,"
'As you wish,"
And without thinking twice, Zariah killed Guru to annihilate the string that was binding Nathaniel to his traumatizing past.
