Chapter # 62.2
De Villiers asked worriedly, 'Are you seriously going to kill Zariah?"
'I should have known, once a disloyal, always a disloyal. My stupidity to latch my heart with her,"
He snarled under his breath, reloading his gun with a deadpan expression. The hopes, the dreams in his eyes were dead.
'Can you truly do that? How can you, the one whose very soul lives on her name, survive after her death?"
'Let's find out if I can,"
'Come on, Boss, Alice wasn't blood-"
The second those words mindlessly escaped in hope that he would place Zariah over Alice, he glared dangerously.
'Say this about her one more time and I will lay your body beside hers."
Warning in a malevolent tone, he refused to listen, jaw clenched, only resolved to avenge her blood.
'Alice was my sister, I couldn't protect Persphone but I will avenge Alice's death, Zariah has to die now,"
Declaring, he secured his gun, finding out about Zariah's whereabouts.
But, De Villiers had seen him struggle for her. The whole reason he became a Plague Doctor was for her.
Plus- Zariah's pleading.
He was wrathfully coming to see her.
Searching through the hotel she was staying at in his Plague Doctor form, testing how much his terror had spread.
It was quite extensive.
'How could she fucking do this!?"
'That asshole is going to get me killed," Prince whispered under his breath, keeping Nathaniel in his range.
‘Shall I kill him? Oh, if I did, I bet his sister will kill me when she grows up,' He thought jokingly.
Since De Villiers was helping, Prince got his chance perfectly and this was the only way to stop him from reaching Zariah.
'I won't forgive her! Find her, now!"
Eyes furiously scanning the room and getting her in the clear spot.
In his black shirt, grey waistcoat, sleeves rolled and the mask to show he meant serious business.
'Pointing a gun at me and actually killing Alice, she will pay now. My feelings are not that cheap to let go of my sister's blood."
Snarling, he pushed his hair, making it messy before falling on the bed, taking off the mask and the second he was in range, Prince shot him.
'What the-"
Nathaniel passed out instantly, people gathered around him, taking him to the nearby hospital immediately.
'Oh fuck, I have done it, I am alive, still alive… yet,"
Gasping, Prince fell back, clutching his chest and rushing out of the rooftop he was staying at to escape as they took Nathaniel to the hospital.
Prince never told anyone De Villiers asked him to shoot Nathaniel.
They both knew Nathaniel trusted him blindly and to hear that might stumble upon this immutable fact so he carried the weight of his glare on him for years.
'Okay, I did it but why did you make me do this?"
Prince hissed at De Villiers outside the hospital when doctors were treating his friend.
De Villiers snapped, 'Because Nathaniel has been breathing Zariah's name for years. He will die without her! He is not thinking straight,"
'What…?"
'Just like she is nothing without him, he is not him without her too, still being stubborn."
His voice cracked. He was there to witness it all, the suffering, the struggle to attain a position he never desired.
He knew it all.
'He is like my brother and I have seen him die for one glimpse everyday, I know how endlessly he loves him,"
Growling, De Villiers hit the wall, cursing loudly. His lips quivered, stressed to experience his agony over time.
Narrowing his eyes painfully, a tear came near his eyes as he whispered desperately.
'By all means, I couldn't make him hate her, Prince,"
Prince was astounded but one thing was a fact-
'If Nathaniel hates her… he won't be himself, he will lose his life,"
So he decided to rip the terrible incident that happened.
'What the fuck do you mean?" Amanda hissed, totally against this ordeal.
'If he came to know Zariah killed Alice, he will never forgive her and only you know that it is her so you better shut up too," De Villiers, at first, didn't trust Amanda.
She made a crying face that made him loosen his shoulders and relax a little, 'That is for his own good, trust me, I know," He whispered.
'Okay, I will warn them to never mention Zariah or Alice again," She nodded.
'Good, thanks,"
‘Should I do this? Is this the right decision? His life revolved around Zariah? He would be an empty shell but… isn't that better than hatred?'
'You know what? Fuck it." He ordered strictly, pointing at the best psychologist he could find.
'Do what happened to his beloved Zari,"
'What…? But, I can't literally remove them, they can come back at any time."
'Well, not for the time being. Do whatever you have to do, surgery, therapy, hypnosis, just get rid of it… at least not until time heals scars,"
'Okay… what should I do?"
'Obliterate his memories from fifteen, especially Zariah and Alice, if he won't remember Alice how he will know it was Zariah."
'Are you sure? It might affect his mental stability too,"
'Do it. Erase his memories, that is the price she has to pay for hurting her beloved. Lose him,"
And being away from Zariah pushed him entirely towards the mafia life as he sorely focused on his hatred.
The second he woke up, he was no longer the man he once was. The one who urged Zariah to offer power and vanish between the cracks.
The one he emerged as was a monster… the one who only cared for his purposes and ruined lives.
Yet amid this heartlessness, only thing tied him to his humanity-
'Are you sure I have no relation with these eyes?"
Even after forgetting her, he didn't.
'You say black, most people's eyes look black though they are brown but are you even sure it's black?" De Villiers shrugged his shoulders.
After healing and getting his life back on track with no sign of Zariah and Alice, De Villiers eradicated anything related to them from him.
'I don't know, you have been with me for my whole childhood, you tell me,"
'Am I your lover to poke my nose in your romantic affairs?"
'Okay, okay, fine, I will find those eyes on my own,"
Hissing, he scanned around his house, finding it empty and blaming it on his hazy memory, he shrugged it off.
'Yeah, yeah,"
'So… what should we do now?" De Villiers asked nonchalantly.
'First, tell me who dared to shot me, The Plague Doctor,"
'Prince,"
'That damn Princy, let's go and kill him-"
'You can't,"
'Why!?"
'There might be a single chance that… Cinzel is alive… you have to keep him alive until we find out,"
He paused, knitting his brows questioningly, 'Really?"
'Yes, they retrieved your parents and Persephone's body but never Cinzel's and Prince was there too,"
He explained further, soothing his lava of obliterating his whole existence but for his sister's sake, he decided to sit back.
'I see,"
'So…"
Inhaling sharply, a malicious gleam flashed in his eyes, curling his tongue and whistling that sent a terrible omen down their spine.
The melody indicated he was no longer the man he once was.
'I don't know about before, De Villiers, but from now on, they shall fear this Plague Doctor,"
'What do you mean?"
'Find Guru, Zoran and those other two who had connections with my family's genocide," He ordered seriously.
Eyes overflowing with ruthlessness. Resting his hand in his pocket, he walked around, nothing like how he used to shred mercy once in a while.
'...What are you going to do with them?"
'Use them as medicine to cure my malady,"
Since he no longer knew about those lifeless eyes he promised to save once…
Leading him to become an insensible monster by Zariah's one mistake because… Forgetting her was easier than hating her.
