Chapter # 39
'Who… the fuck did this?"
Guru's death left a deep impact on Nathaniel.
Guru wasn't only his prisoner but also his stress reliever.
He enjoyed tormenting him to ease his tension. He was toying with his mind, torturing his body, doing the worst to him.
Made him inexplicable miserable for his recreation under the label of revenge and with him gone-
Who would fill that gap of barbaric insanity?
'I am asking you something, say something!"
'W-We don't know, Boss,"
His mind was fuming, his breaths were unstable when he completed a circle around his dead body.
Those who were authorized present, hanging their heads low, sensing his wrath from afar.
'Speak up, De Villiers. Who. Did. This?"
At the silence, Nathaniel lost his mind and grabbed his collar angrily, glaring at him to stop holding silence.
'I am asking you something, asshole!"
Inhaling sharply, he lowered his gaze, afraid for her because this rage was higher than his anticipation.
Yet if he won't find out, he would take it all on them and he warned her already.
'Zariah…"
He blinked, letting De Villiers go with an abrupt shock, 'What?"
Never once he fathomed that of all people Zariah would do something to agonize him.
'She came. I was out for some work… I had no idea that she… would do this,"
De Villiers blurted out as others maintained a fair distance from him.
Wasn't her world revolved around him? How could she possibly do anything that could hurt him?
Flabbergasted, his steps retreated, attempting to contemplate the circumstances but failed to do so.
He won't listen.
He won't understand.
He nor did he care.
He had gone quite mad.
'That woman…"
'Boss, wait-"
'No, De Villiers, How could she!?"
Fuming with wrath, Nathaniel lost his mind and went to his apartment. Rage emerging endlessly from him, breaths burning.
With a blinded perception that was controlling his body, he stormed inside.
Bloodshot eyes searching for Zariah furiously while she was watching doing the laundry.
Watching the washing machine spin round and round with a blank stare until a flaring resonance called her.
'Zariah!"
Exhaling in disappointment, she was mentally prepared for his wrath and gradually rose.
There he stood in the room.
In his black gray shirt, sleeves rolled to his elbow, hairs in a mess with two buttons opened, the heavy steps echoing in the muteness.
‘He is seriously enraged,' She thought while swallowing hard.
The perception of ‘who was more important' disturbed her, she was afraid of his reaction deep down.
Her heart began to race around her ribcage, she could feel his fumes from afar and came to see him with a softened gaze.
'What happened, Nathaniel-"
The second she came into his view.
He was pacing in the room and with one glimpse, he roughly twisted her arm behind her back, propelling her body to his muscular chest to stare dead into her eyes.
'What the fuck have you done, Zariah!?"
She winced at his scary grip, attempting to free herself as he held her jaws to keep their faces inclined.
'Leave me, Nathaniel, you are hurting me,"
'AND YOU HAVE HURT ME!"
Shutting her eyes, her body convulsed weakly accompanied by tears reaching near those soft eyelids.
At his level of wrath, his hot breath blazed her skin and heart as his fury was higher than her anticipation.
'Why did you do this to Guru!?"
Scowling, he held both her arms in a dangerous grip, not permitting her for a second to comprehend and continued executing his anger.
'I told you he is my prey, didn't you!? Then what is your problem!?"
A trembling, disheartened mess continued to link her gaze with vision slowly vanished by tears.
'I…"
Lips shaking, lacking to utter a sound yet she forced her vocal cords to produce a low whimper.
'I did as you told…"
'What?"
He blinked because to his memory, he never once pleaded anyone to exterminate his most important prisoner.
Sniffling, she continued, 'Saving you from yourself. As long as that asshole was alive, you will be chains to darkness,"
To his hissing and incapability to bear further, she endeavored to leave his rough grip, imprinting his mark on her skin for a dead man.
'I was drunk, dammit, who the fuck told you to fucking murder him?"
Losing his mind, he pushed her down on the bed, senselessly shouting at her.
'HOW COULD YOU!?"
Indubitably, he had lost his senses.
He was not aware of his unfavorable treatment towards Zariah; ignorant of her tears and the resonance of those soft sniveling.
Gripping the sheets, a few tears burst but with a quick inhale, she wiped them off with intense heartache building with lack of justifications.
He had dismayed her.
'Just because I am lenient and silent in your matters doesn't give you the right to do whatever you want!"
Returning a glare, she whispered, 'I merely made us equal."
'What do you mean?" He growled, closing the gap, hovering over her vulnerable form on the bed.
'You kill prey, my best friend, my half sister, Alessandra and I killed your prey, the core of your hatred," She hissed, pushing him back and standing firmly again.
But those salty tears revealed her anguish, on how much it shattered her heart to find him so mindless, breathless, for Guru.
He even had a tear in his eyes as if he had lost an important asset.
'My actions had a meaning, I did this for your betterment."
'Then I did this for you,"
'No. He was MY culprit. Who are you to decide his punishment on my behalf huh!?"
When he refused to listen to her, her chest immersed with woe. Pants echoing in the room, she hit his chest, pushing him away,
'Do I not fall in the boundary of care? Or you consider me nothing but a doll who will blindly follow you?"
He paused, shrinking his eyes with her fingers clasping his shirt desperately.
'You do know I want you as much as you do, that I need you as much as you do,"
Puffing, she continued, staring intensely into his eyes while snaking her other hand around his neck to press him against the wall.
'And what no one, either in level of hate or love, or any possible emotion can go beyond MY level,"
To her miserable whispering, he caged his sensibility in a lock and kept on repeating the same words.
Why?
She didn't know. And he couldn't tell.
'Stop your damn obstinacy, Zariah. How could you do this?! He was my victim. I decide what to do with him!"
'You can make decisions for me but I can't- why!? I did what I considered right because that man I saw moments was NOT my Nathaniel," She yelled back, pressing him harder against the wall.
Still praying in the deepest corner of her heart that his endearment would be revived and he would abandon this stubbornness.
'You had gone blind in hatred, you have become a beast, a monster and like hell I would let you go down that path,"
Breaking into a painful sob, she rested her head on his chest, listening to his thumping heartbeats.
Clenching onto him with her most heartfelt emotions, shutting her eyes while crying softly in his chest.
She prayed and prayed.
That he would choose her, choose to start a future and go ahead instead of binding himself to a lost battle.
'And I care for you, my love, please try to understand, I did this for your own good-"
'Get out,"
She was dying to build a home with him which he razed asininely.
'Wh-What?"
Blinking, she looked up at him, taking a moment to contemplate but his expressions were deadpanned.
'None of your words will work."
Ripping her apart exactly how he ripped her heart as she made a miserable face. Disappointment coating from her soul to her aura.
Tilting her head to the side, she waited for him to change his words but holding his sides, he merely shifted his gaze in the other direction.
'You had no right to meddle in my vengeance and before I do something I regret, leave and don't show me your face,"
'Is he more important than me-"
He punched the wall, shutting his eyes with a tear rolling down his cheek.
'I SAID GET THE FUCK OUT,"
With a sharp exhale at her flinching, he glanced at her, quivering lips, tears clouding his visions as he whimpered, adding.
'please…"
'So you are choosing your revenge…"
Wiping her tears, she folded her arms at her chest, rolling her eyes almost out of disbelief to be disregarded so ruthlessly.
'It's not that, Zari-"
Placing her hand in between, she wiped her eyes roughly yet tears flowed as she grabbed her handbag, her phone.
'Fine then,"
Stopping at the doorknob, she looked at him for the final time seriously, declaring before walking out of his doorsteps.
'I won't come after you again, now fine me yourself, Nathaniel Alroy,"
