Chapter # 64
A few days passed, they were staying low at the hideout.
Also because Nathaniel was not sure about letting Amanda go back to the apartment on her own and wanted her to stay with him.
Meanwhile Zariah became hollow, lying on the couch.
Curled like a ball while Nathaniel was out, engrossed in work to shift his mind after implanting a scar on her heart.
'Get up, eat something," Amanda called, poking her shoulder.
'I am not hungry," She whispered, failing to look at Amanda.
'You are not but the one in you is so get up and eat," She sighed, taking a seat beside her and helping her to sit.
'You must be resenting me, Amanda," Her lips quivered, hating the point her life had reached.
She observed her face closely and lifted her chin to make her stare and returned a soft smile.
'No, I don't,"
'What…?"
'De Villiers said in his last moments not to hate you and…"
With a pause, she chuckled sadly, 'I have seen Boss becoming what you guys call yourself ‘dangerous worshipers', so you followed the same line,"
'I didn't want him to get killed, I tried to save him, I swear, I did," Zariah panicked, holding her hands.
Wanting to at least gain her forgiveness to reduce the ache of the trouble her one self-centered deal resulted in.
'I know, I could tell." She whispered, rubbing her back and offered her a bite too.
'One is supposed to be careful in the first trimester and here you were, carrying a man, getting shot and fighting,"
She continued, motioning to Zariah to eat. She hesitantly took a bite, tears pricking in the corner.
'This baby is supposed to be your only chance to get with him and you were risking it,"
The result of her actions left a high impact on her mind. She couldn't gather her smeared piece and forge a strong upfront.
All that remained was emptiness…
'I stopped thinking, all on my mind was to save him,"
'The only thing you can do is to save your relationship," She advised.
Wiping the tear in the corner, Zariah forced a smile, giving her a nod, 'Amanda, thank you,"
'De Villiers would have done the same too. You guys have suffered enough for each other already,"
Exhaling, she gave her back a reassuring pat to get herself together.
'Now, eat up, I am going to rest,"
'Sure, thank you again,"
'Yeah, yeah,"
Zariah forced herself to eat a little, the food tasted unsavory. Her heart was still stuck on Nathaniel which stole her appetite.
She barely ate half and waited for him to return, his anger was stealing her sleep, her solace, her ability to think, her whole being was disturbed.
As long as he remains infuriated, she won't be able to take care of herself.
The second he returned late at night, she went after him hastily. In his messy state, his chest revealed. Hairs covering his forehead with roughly rolled sleeves.
Knocking, she entered his cabin and saw him sitting on the couch, rubbing his temples. His jaw clenched when she entered.
Her gaze softened, 'Nathaniel,"
Bending to one knee before him, she placed her hand over his knee when his face turned, not greeting her pleading gaze.
'Still going to remain angry with me?"
Her grip tightened, 'Are you not even going to look at me?"
And when her misery failed to defrost his icy mien, she used words that made him react instantly.
'Is that how much you hate-"
'Did you have dinner?"
He cut her off assertively, removing her hands from his knee and clearing his throat.
'I won't eat without you,"
He glared to which she also returned an innocent frown, remaining stubborn until his heart would melt.
The glaring competition lasted for five seconds, resulting in his defeat. Exhaling, he shook his head.
'Serve dinner. I am going to freshen up,"
She smiled faintly which he pretended not to notice and went to the bathroom to loosen his mind and body, to find some relaxation.
His head was bursting from stress and when he got out, he saw the woman requiring nothing but his recognition.
Taking a seat rudely, he unknowingly got one plate for both of them and turned to her, her heart skipped a beat at one gesture.
Taking a bite, he sparked the conversation, curious to know, in a dead voice.
'How long have you been…?"
'Three weeks…"
'What did the doctor say?"
Forming her lips in a thin line, she said hurriedly, 'That I should quit smoking and start eating healthy nutritious food. She gave me some medicines too,"
'Do you still smoke?"
He showed no reaction, almost dead that was hurting her.
'I used to… a lot… too much.. when you weren't here… It always helped me to shift my mind off from you..."
He arched an eyebrow, noticing she wasn't eating and offered her a bite.
'And after meeting me?"
'I promise I am trying to quit, I rarely take one now and from now on, I won't even touch it," She said worriedly.
Hands fidgety to not dishearten him further plus the emotionless gaze was already distressing her.
'What about the medicines?"
He sighed, not in the mood to act enraged or force himself to hurt her.
He was tired, too tired to give a proper expression.
'The reports and medicines were in the car… and I don't know what Zoran did to it,"
'He came to me in that, it must be in hospital's parking,"
To his cold response, she held his wrist.
'Nathaniel, please, don't make this face with me. Your anger will kill me," She whispered.
The uncaring tone pierced her, failing to hear further and pulled him towards her.
'My heart too weak for you, I can't handle your wrath, I have already made you exhausted from love once and I can't let this happen again,"
Placing his hand under her cheek to let him feel her warmth and ease his blazing heart but to no avail.
'Nathaniel, please, talk to me properly-"
Exhaling, he got up, yanking his hand away.
'I am done and exhausted, I am going to sleep,"
