Chapter # 37.2
After what happened last night, Zariah's mind was blank.
Leaving a deep impact on her perception, having no idea what to do anymore, she went silent.
Eyes cascading to the man sleeping beside her compassionately.
‘You will choose me over Guru, right? I am more important, aren't I? You will change for me… right?'
Her hands came closer to caress him but stopped mid-way, a sparkle of terror evoked a quiver from her core.
His words engraved but before an ember of pride could ignite another worry arose.
‘What if you won't?'
Shaking her head, she couldn't do this and got out of the bed quickly.
'No, no, I shouldn't think that way,'
Freshening up and going to make breakfast as Nathaniel woke up. His head was throbbing due to last night's event.
A constriction of his actions, the ache of surging distress in her stole his ability to think straight.
'Fuck…"
Cursing, he sat up, rubbing his temples before going out and finding Zariah who was cooking breakfast.
Her relaxed features soothed his worry a little, praying she won't be disappointed or frightened of him.
Two things unendurable for him; two scenarios he could never imagine to occur.
Forging his best of personality, he appeared behind her, murmuring affection in her ears.
'Morning, Beautiful,"
'Hey," She smiled feebly, more focused on flipping the pancakes.
'What are you doing?"
'Cooking breakfast for us. I doubt you had dinner,"
His hand gradually led to her shoulders, moving his thumb in circles, easing her tensed body gradually.
Her insides curled into a strange calmness, catching a glimpse of his charming features leaning against her.
'Are you okay?"
She nodded, 'I am completely fine,"
'Listen, I know I… perturbed you,"
'Scared-"
He kissed her shoulders, shutting his eyes, 'No, no, don't say that. I would never willingly frighten you, Zariah,"
The heftiness of the word ‘scared' would rip his solace from his soul. She was the only person whose fear was intolerable for him.
'And I am sorry for what happened. For what you saw, my hatred got out of control, I agree." He continued affectionately.
Hands gradually moving to caress her hands, intertwining fingers while blended breaths dried her throat in emancipation, distressing her.
Stopping all her work momentarily, she turned to him strictly.
'Then promise me you won't do it again,"
He chuckled anxiously, 'We are to eliminate our targets if you remember that,"
'Then kill him and end this ordeal,"
'It's not that simple, Darling,"
She sighed, pushing him away by her shoulder before turning off the stove and returning him a glare to stop testing her forbearance by sticking on being demonic.
'You are making it complicated, Nathaniel."
'No, I am not,"
Lowering her gaze sorrowfully, she held her elbow, 'I… I just didn't want you to be like this. Okay, I get it, he killed your family. He has hurt you… a lot,"
Yet ending in grief, a desperation coated her eyes, longing to find a way out of this predicament as she asked hopefully.
'But, don't you think instead of letting yourself get hurt repeatedly by seeing his face… why not end it?"
'Please, just please don't talk about it," He sighed, putting his hand in the air defensively.
'Then you please stay real to me, Nathaniel, just leave him to die, don't let him become an obstacle of our live,"
Ending in a sigh, Nathaniel abruptly held her face in his both hands, bringing their faces dangerously closer so she could witness her worth.
So her eyes could comprehend how much she meant to him as he whispered breathlessly.
'No, he is not, I am telling you, be assured. This won't happen again. Nothing tops you, okay?"
'...Nothing tops me, right?"
'Yes,"
… And she believed in him mindlessly.
'I see."
Her body relaxed immediately, wrapping her hands around him to find comfort in his embrace.
'You have relieved me,"
'See. You have to trust me, I would never intentionally hurt you,"
He smiled, kissing the top of her hand since all her ordeals vanished. She firmly believed he wouldn't break her trust.
After clearing hearts, she served breakfast.
'So, how's things at the hospital? I have seen how your nurses look at you,"
She smirked teasingly to which he chuckled in response, poking her nose, bringing a scarlet shade there.
'They can only look, you own this soul,"
'Ah, you know a fun fact? My colleagues call me Plague Doctor,"
He continued after giving her butterflies, after labeling her heartbeats to his account by one action.
'Really?"
He nodded, 'Yeah, they say my whistle is similar to him and I could take his position,"
'But they also say my hands are made to save lives, that I am the best surgeon and could never hurt a soul…"
Ending in a disappointing chuckle, he glanced at his hands that could never hold the title of a ‘savior'.
'How ironic,"
'You are the best doctor. Both medically and metaphorically, you saved me,"
And then her next words vanquished his insecurity and healed his wounds. Bringing a glow on his face.
'You are my curer,"
That face she accepted this, it provided him with a solace ripped from him for a devilishly long time.
Now, ‘he' was relieved.
Smiling sincerely, he whispered, pinching her cheeks, 'Hearing it has reduced all my worries,"
After an exhausting day at work, he was with his Zari. Her head under his arm, sleeping peacefully as his thumb gently moved across.
Stroking her tender skin, staring intensely at the woman sleeping peacefully with a burning sensation in his chest.
‘You mean more than you can imagine to me, Zari. I do everything for you. Then why are you not understanding my hatred?' He thought in disappointment.
He was entirely immersed in her aura, her peaceful features, easing his troubles until he received a call.
'Fuck,"
Whispering with a sour face, he unwillingly released her from his proximity and went out of the room to attend the call.
'Hmm?"
'Well, well, look who's back,"
A dark, husky chuckle came from the British-American man as the news of his return spread like fire and it thrilled him.
'Sebastian,"
'Honestly speaking, mate, I am glad you are. Things had become too boring after you left,"
Humming, Nathaniel agreed, incling on his seat as Sebastian continued with a scoff.
'First Alphonse, then Sufiyan and you too, it was just simply unbearable. This Zoran, Elton are nowhere near my dust,"
The contempt in his resonance towards those people he considered nothing was transparent. Nathaniel couldn't help but to suppress a chuckle and decided to push his buttons.
'Shall I repeat those words for you as well, Sebastian?"
To hear him being nowhere his dust instantly displeased the man in London and hissed.
'It will sound humiliating when you are standing in my domain,"
Only to be hit by another mock, 'Oh, who was dying for my Ultimate Protection and gave up on France and Amsterdam to me?"
'Amsterdam is temporary. The second you step out, I will take it back." Sebastian declared.
'Hmm,"
Their talks calmed down a little and Sebastian asked again rudely, 'So. Why are you back?"
'I strongly believe you know,"
'Then good luck finding Zoran, you have six months left before leaving Amsterdam and going back to America,"
'Whatever,"
Rolling his eyes, he cut the call and threw his phone away. His head throbbing with a disturbance for pridefully declaring he won't hurt her.
But leaving his vengeance hanging after carrying it like a flaming torch for decades was distasteful too.
He was torn between love and hatred.
'Huff… back home huh?"
Shaking his head, he came back to the room, eyes stopping at the woman he gained. He knew he couldn't afford losing her.
Sitting beside her, he gripped her hands and kissed them, 'I will never hurt you willingly, Zari,"
Which he knew might break her trust yet his hatred attached strings to his soul, not allowing him to reduce the flames in his heart.
Thinking sourly, wretchedly, ‘But, Maybe, forgiveness is not in my blood, I can't end this hatred easily,'
