Chapter 22 - Plan B

Anna shut up. She didn't mean anything by it, she just found it a bit unbelievable. This usual thing never seemed to happen to her. What Joey had done had shown her that she could have what other girls had. For the first time since she was a little girl, she really felt truly happy, as if she was happier than when she married Soros. She took a sip of her bubble and chewed. Sugar really did boost your happiness, and it was okay for her to indulge just once, Anna thought as she narrowed her eyes. They were like a normal couple, from movie theater popcorn, to ice cream and video games. Joey had taken Anna everywhere he could think of. He'd been prepared for rejection, but he hadn't expected her to be so cooperative. They were having too much fun. Joey was mesmerized by Anna's smile. He'd never seen this side of her before, if only the smile could stay semi-permanent. Reality was cold and harsh. He knew Anna would be so cooperative because she had never tried it before. The day passed quickly for both of them. When they returned to college, Joey pulled himself together and hugged Anna. Not only that, but he whispered in her ear, "Anna, you should smile more." When Anna was about to open her mouth to retort, he had released her and walked away. She muttered, "Why are you running? I'm not going to hit you!" Pouting, she couldn't really think of any reason for him to stay. All she could do was watch the cute boy walk away. What she didn't realize was that when Joey came back, he was immediately surrounded by his friends. "Joey, you actually just ditched your friends and went to dinner with your pretty girlfriend." "One of my friends has feelings for you. But now, she doesn't seem to have a chance." The other guy narrowed his eyes at Joey and said, "Joey, she's really hot. Does she have any sisters or friends?" "Joey is the first one to find a girlfriend." Unfortunately, Joey gave a bitter laugh, "If only that were true." He could see Anna looking at him like she was looking at another person. He was just her plan B! That wasn't all there was to it. What would he do if she tried to step forward later and throw some kind of deal at him? Joey shuddered, admonishing himself that, in the future, he should stay away from Anna. She wasn't the ordinary girl . She could hurt your arm, or even break your heart.
