Chapter 35 Dealing with Gossip
Anna had no idea that her message had caused such exciting consequences. At this point, she was still busy with her work...
The most carefree person in this situation was her. After all, she was just a bystander.
Today was also the first day that Joey prepared food for her and the first day he officially joined her new energy company.
It was a day to celebrate, Anna thought. She had booked the party in advance and planned to take everyone out after work.
Joey was now busy helping everyone print things, starting with the basics. He thought the job offer was incredible.
But he kept doing it since he was here, and the job was related to his speciality. He had great faith in Anna's abilities and believed that following her would be an eye-opener.
Joey's intuition told him that Anna could bring about a change in him, and such changes were never easy. Of course, there was a prerequisite for all of this: to ensure that Anna was always interested in him.
Frankly, he's a little worried about how he will keep her interested. All the initiative was in Anna's hands.
Just as he was thinking about it, Anna's secretary, Wendy, called out to him, "Joey, Miss. Anna wants to see you."
Joey walked towards Anna's office while answering, "Miss Anna, is something wrong?"
Anna handed him a stack of materials, "You have two days to read through these. Next week you and I will go to New Zealand together. We have a project there."
Joey was surprised, "But Anna, I'm a freshman here."
"So what?" Anna didn't take this seriously at all. She knew what Joey could do, so naturally, she wasn't afraid of her staff gossiping. It would be a slap in the face of reality anyway.
Feeling a little aggrieved that she had no choice, Joey said, "But Anna, aren't you worried about your reputation?"
Anna smiled faintly, "Are you worried about your reputation?"
The meaning in her tone was unmistakable. They would call someone like him a gigolo. Joey paled, "Actually, I got this job on my own. I passed the interview."
"I know." Anna said coldly, "Joey, I don't talk about feelings while on the job. You should know that. You're dealing with our clients in the future, not so-called gossip."
"Dealing with gossip is simple. Crush those things with real power. You should know that no one's opinion is set in stone. They are within your grasp as long as you have the power." Anna thought she was nagging.
When she was with Soros, he didn't even have the privilege of letting Anna teach him.
Well, with Soros' personality, no matter what she said, he wouldn't believe it. He'd think she was planning some shenanigans and was ready to do something bad to him.
She had gotten used to that a long time ago.
In fact, this time, Soros' reaction actually surprised her, as if it was the first time he believed her for the sake of his ex-girlfriend, Elizabeth.
It felt so ironic to think about it. Why were there such strange people? Well, she should say, why were people so strange?
Why was human nature so baffling?
Despite what she'd just said to Joey, she knew she still hadn't gained that absolute power or things wouldn't have ended the way they did between her and Soros.
What Anna wanted more than anything right now was to run the company and then casually indulge to add a little spice to her life.
As for Soros, she had no hope for him. Though she subconsciously thought of him occasionally. When she calmed down, she would realize that it had been a long time since they had seen each other!
Anna shook her head happily. She was too young to do anything without showing it on her face. For now, she had to let others watch her get changed.
And Joey, stunned by Anna's words, thought hard and finally decided she wasn't wrong, but who could get to that level?
It had to be at least someone who had a say in things, but he was just a college student.
Joey sighed. Why wasn't he as capable as Anna?
But for the moment, he was relieved. They could gossip all they wanted, but he wouldn't be physically harmed. He wouldn't be looked down upon.
The truth was, Joey had always been looked down upon. Ever since his parents died, ever since he went to the orphanage, it had all given him a sense of unreality.
Joey couldn't remember what it was like to be a child, only that there was a time when it was really dark, and he struggled to crawl out, but there was no way out.
He was trapped for a third of a year. Sometimes, he would have nightmares.
Joey never forced himself to do anything, but college was an exception. For years, he'd worked hard to get out of that hole.
Now, the opportunity had come, and if he didn't take this seriously, it was because Joey couldn't tell chalk from cheese.
After thinking about it, Joey felt like he had hit the jackpot. He had a lot of confidence in himself.
That's when Joey's heart returned to his chest, "Miss Anna, I won't let you down. You'll see."
She smiled from the bottom of her heart at his words, "I know I haven't convinced you yet; after all, I haven't even convinced myself yet. It's just that your answer tells me that we can move forward together, and that's the best part."
Joey nodded; although he felt inwardly that Anna looked down on herself too much, her words still made him happy.
"Then, Anna, I'll leave now," Joey said.
