Chapter 27: You Will Never See Me Again
As he watched Anna's car drive away, Soros's body swayed and he almost fell straight down.
Julia was busy grabbing him and helping him into the car with difficulty.
Anna was a little dizzy from the evening breeze. She looked at Joey beside her and sighed softly.
She wanted to talk to someone so badly at this moment, but Joey was so unconscious and showed no signs of waking up, so she had to hold it in.
A month later, she finally brought Joey home. That's so amazing.
This time, she carried him straight to the master bedroom and went to take a shower herself.
When she came out, Joey was sitting on the couch in a daze like a log, as if something had sucked the soul out of him.
Anna looked at him and stifled a smile as she ran to the refrigerator and got him a bottle of mineral water, mischievously pushing the cool bottle right into his face.
Joey took the water from her and silently pressed it to his forehead. His cheeks slowly turning from white to red as time went on.
Anna thought this boy was really funny and wondered what was going on in her head.
Thinking about it, Anna raised her hand and grabbed Joey's ear.
Joey tried to dodge, but she grabbed his ear, "Don't play dumb. I know you're awake. Besides, they gave you ecstasy, not alcohol, it won't make you a fool."
Joey burst into tears, "I'm sorry, once again I've been made a fool of."
"How can you be so gullible!" Anna sighed as she ravaged his ears, not stopping until they were as red as lobsters.
Joey was frustrated, "We're roommates. He said the restaurant was short of waiter and the pay was attractive. There was enough for a year's tuition for me in one night, so I went over there. I didn't realize it was another scam!
"Gee, so you even almost lost yourself," Anna's eyes flashed as she began to fool him, "Do you know what I promised them to redeem you?"
"What?" Joey looked confused when he heard what she said next.
"Originally, I was my own boss and I was already busy. Now, I have to be his consultant from time to time, without a paycheck. Joey, what am I going to do?"
Joey shuddered, "What? I don't know, or I'd come to you."
His distressed expression angered Anna, "It depends on whether they want you or not."
At that, Joey sat up straight for a moment, "But I don't even know them, so why would they do this to me?"
Anna shrugged, "Maybe because you're meek!"
Joey rolled his eyes, "No, they're all businessmen. I can tell that it must be because I'm too close to you."
At that moment, he finally realized, "Now I see, I'm in the crossfire!"
Anna narrowed her eyes, "So what? If you think I'm dragging you down, you can leave now and I'll make sure you never have to see me again. So you can live out the rest of your life in peace."
