Chapter 36 - Can't Go Back
"Okay." Anna nodded and let him go.
After Joey went out, Anna messaged him about the evening's dinner and then went back to workaholic mode.
On the other hand, Elizabeth was threatened by an unfamiliar number and stepped out of the villa she was staying in, and the first thing she saw was actually Soros.
Elizabeth was nervous. She understood this man's presence was not a good sign, especially because she sent him a breakup text earlier saying she was out of the country.
Elizabeth gritted her teeth and tried her best to gently give a small smile, "Soros, why are you here? Where did you get the news that I was back? I wanted to surprise you!"
"Hey," Soros sneered, "what a surprise!"
He threw the picture at Elizabeth, "Out of the country? Break up? No other choice? Elizabeth, you really take me for a fool!"
Elizabeth's face turned pale. She could feel Soros' intense anger and aggression as he said this. He wanted to strangle her.
She shed tears, "Soros, you misunderstood me. I didn't lie to you. That man threatened me; I had no choice."
As soon as she finished speaking, she saw her husband, Sam Newton, walk out with tears streaming down his face. Her face was now turning an iron-blue colour.
Elizabeth's heart jumped as to why Sam had come out. She stumbled back, completely at a loss for words.
She didn't know what she had done wrong. She would never want to see that happen.
Sam was also furious, "Elizabeth, you claimed you loved me, yet your love was so cheap. I thought I was impressing you with my heart."
He smiled bitterly and said to Soros, "Mr. Soros, now you know that I am a victim, too. This incident really has nothing to do with me. If she didn't show interest in me, how could I think of spending the rest of my life with her?"
Soros' face remained severe. He knew Sam was not a good man. He was single-minded and pretended to be rich to fool young inexperienced girls.
It was apparent he was successful. His appearance had fooled Elizabeth, utterly oblivious to the fact that it was all for show.
But it was unacceptable that Soros, a wealthy man, would be dumped by such a stupid girl for a con artist. How could something so disgusting happen to him?
Before arriving here, Soros had thrown away all the things Elizabeth had given him. He used to think of those things as treasures but never considered them.
Looking at Elizabeth's sobbing face, he couldn't help but feel a sense of vengeance rising in him.
Because of her, he hadn't seen Anna's devotion to him for years. But after Anna had let him go, he noticed how good she was.
However, what could he do? Reality told him that he couldn't go back. Anna had left him. And her number, once again, he couldn't get through.
