Chapter 10: Pretending to Be My Boyfriend
He paused, his eyes blinking slightly, "Nothing."
Well, if he didn't want to talk about it, I couldn't keep asking. The most important one was now Susie.
Five hours later, the surgery was finally done and the hospital director walked out. He told me that Susie's surgery was a success, but she still had to be observed in the intensive care unit for forty-eight hours, according to the rules.
The three of us breathed a sigh of relief.
The child recovered well. After a few days, she was able to eat and drink. I got the best caregivers to take care of her 24 hours a day and also contacted the couple in the process.
They soon came to the hospital to meet Susie, and after that, my friends took my hand and said, "We promise you that we will take good care of Susie. She's our daughter and we will protect her and raise her well."
I said, half-jokingly and half-seriously, "I was under a lot of pressure to get her "guardian" to agree to this, so if anything happens to Susie, I won't be able to explain it to him."
"That will never happen."
After seeing the couple off, I saw Elias sitting in a park chair thinking about life. I came over to him and tapped him on the shoulder, "What's on your mind?"
"Susie really likes that couple."
"That's the destiny, right?" I sighed, "Her biological parents have abandoned her, but after a long time, people who love her finally appear. I think God doesn't want Susie to suffer, so he sent people to take care of her."
Elias looked at me with rapt attention, "I think you are the one who changed Susie's life."
"Me?"
"Without you, she wouldn't have a chance to be reborn. Jacqueline, I don't know how to express my gratitude about this, but I'll do my best for whatever you need in the future."
"Really?" I approached him, "I don't need money, I don't need fame, I don't need anything, I just need a man, why don't you just accept me?"
Elias was ashamed and annoyed, "I am serious."
"I'm serious as well."
As soon as the words left my mouth, my phone rang and I glanced at it. It was my mom. I helplessly rolled my eyes towards the sky.
My mom called me for nothing more than to urge me to get married.
This time, she started her long-winded speech again, and I couldn't stand it anymore, so I said, "Mom, you don't have to bother introducing me to someone. I have a boyfriend already and he's right next to me."
My mother replied, "Give him the phone."
I told her to wait a minute.
"Elias, you said you wanted to thank me and now you have a chance to do so." I handed him the phone, "It's my mom. Pretend you're my boyfriend."
Elias's eyes blinked slightly. Finally, he took the phone under my "compelling" gaze.
A short time later, Elias hung up and handed the phone back to me.
"What did my mom say?" I thought I'd probably stalled my mom off this time.
However, Elias said, "Auntie said that she and Uncle will come over right away."
"Right away?"
"Well, auntie said she's going to book a flight immediately."
I was dumbfounded.
He got up, "I'm going in to see Susie."
Before he could leave, I stopped him, "Elias, are you just going to quit now that we're in the middle of a fire?"
I held up my phone, "You're the one who made the trouble and you have to patch it up."
Elias looked at me as if I was a tigress.
I took his hand and said, "My mother used to be a dean of students when she was young, so we have to do a full act or she will find out the truth."
When I say a full act, I mean living together.
I asked Yvette to buy the necessary household items for men, including underpants, and send them to my home.
Elias looked helpless when he saw it, "Can't you explain the situation to your mom?"
"What's the point of explaining?" I gave him a contemptuous look, "You're not the one being forced into marriage."
He lowered his eyes and muttered, "How do you know I wasn't forced to marry."
I was too busy sorting the things Yvette had brought in to hear what he said, but I asked anyway, "What did you just say?"
"Nothing." He saw that I was taking the underpants for men and his handsome face flushed, "I... I'll do it."
I tossed him the pants, "When my parents leave, you can take the underwear with you, they are in your size anyway."
Elias froze and became irritated, "Jacqueline!"
I was taken aback by him, "What's with the sudden shouting?" I realized something when I caught a glimpse of his annoyed look and couldn't help but laugh.
He was really a cute and innocent boy.
I came up to him and blew softly in his ear, "We have seen each other naked. Isn't it a normal thing for me to know your size?"
After saying that, I turned around and left before he became furious.
After a two-hour flight, my parents arrived at my house on time.
As soon as my mom saw Elias, she stood in the entryway and couldn't move. She looked at him as if a wolf looked at a fresh and fat prey that was about to be caught.
Elias was so thin-skinned that I was afraid he would dig a hole in the ground and hide himself if he got nervous, so I quickly distracted my mother.
"Mom, you must be tired from the flight. We've prepared dinner, come and eat."
My mother nodded her head and came to the kitchen while looking back at Elias.
Seeing the home-cooked meals on the table, my dad looked puzzled, "Jackie, you're so busy working every day. How do you have time to cook and even do it so well?"
I was speechless.
Hearing these words, I caught a glimpse of Elias' smile, but he quickly curbed it.
Go ahead and laugh at me.
As a busy president of a listed company, I had no choice but to be complained about when I was with my parents.
"Dad, I didn't cook these, Elias did." I hurriedly took the opportunity to introduce Elias and pushed him to my parents.
My dad's eyes were like radar, sweeping Elias up and down, left and right, front and back, and then he finally stroked his moustache that didn't exist and said in a deep voice, "How old are you?"
"Uncle, I am twenty-five years old."
As soon as my father heard Elias' answer, he immediately approached my mother and conspired loudly, "Oh, our daughter robs the cradle."
I was not deaf yet, please.
My mom elbowed my dad and rolled her eyes at him, "What do you know? Now it's popular for girls to date younger boys."
I put my hand on my forehead.
What had the two of them been through since they retired?
During dinner, my mom asked in a casual way, "Jackie, when are you going to get a marriage license?"
