Chapter 20: My Husband Was Awesome
Even God was giving me a chance.
As I said, horses were spiritual animals. Thus, they cared about winning and losing too.
I fell behind in the early stage and I didn't wield the whip, which caused my horse's temper to be suppressed. Now I wielded the whip, and the horse rushed forward like an arrow.
Slowly, I approached Nellie.
When she turned around and saw me close behind her, a trace of panic passed through her eyes, but soon she stabilized and pulled the rope fiercely. The horse raised its hind legs and a gust of wind blew over. The dust instantly filled the air.
Nellie was really willing to do anything to win.
My horse and I were both blinded by the dust.
My horse was out of control. I tried to tighten the rope but to no avail. I was about to be thrown off the horse's back when a horse suddenly whinnied from behind.
Before I could turn my head, a pair of large hands grabbed my waist and pulled me to the back of another horse in a flash. And my horse had already left alone at a wild gallop.
I was stunned and turned my head to see that it was actually Elias.
"Elias?"
"Don't say anything." He held me with one hand, looking ahead, his eyes firm and determined.
I had never seen Elias like this before. His riding posture was very professional. The more I watched, the more suspicious I became. What kind of person would have such professional horsemanship?
I said, "The young girl has no martial virtue."
Elias waved his whip, "So, let's give her some credit."
I smiled. It was the first time I had seen Elias in such a domineering manner.
I didn't know if Nellie panicked because she had done something bad, or because she was being followed by Elias. Once she panicked, our chance came.
On the last lap, with a distance of more than 10 meters, Elias used his legs to pinch the horse's belly and the horse leaped high and flew over the fence to the finish line.
Nellie was a step late and she and her horse got a mouthful of dust.
After crossing the finish line, Elias slowed the horse down and took me for a slow ride. At this point, we were not racing but rather strolling.
I said, "That last step of yours could be really hurtful and insulting."
Elias said lightly, "Was it?"
This guy, I didn't really know he kept his own counsel.
"Why can you ride? Where did you learn it?"
He asked in return, "Is it important?"
"I am not wrong for caring about my husband, am I? But you really have a full range of skills. Is it true that you can do everything but give birth to a child?"
He rolled his eyes at me.
The breeze was brisk, the horses were snorting ahead, and the faint scent of flowers came from the distance. I leaned against Elias's broad chest with a peace of mind I had never felt before.
"Is this a date?" I asked him with a smile.
"Who dates in public?" He asked back.
"Us." I laugh, "After all, I'm not a normal person, so I'm sure I'd have to do something out of the ordinary."
Elias cut the ground from under my feet again, "It's good to be confident, but to be overly confident is considered narcissistic."
I was in a good mood, so I didn't refute it.
As soon as I dismounted, Nellie came towards me with a pitiful look, "Jacqueline, it's all because my horse suddenly lost her temper that almost got you hurt, I'm sorry."
Nellie was a shrewd girl.
She could play both vicious and innocent. In front of Ian, she was a simple and innocent little girl.
I smiled, "It's okay. I didn't get hurt. Anyway, there are always accidents in a game."
"This round is Jacqueline's to win." Nellie smiled and glanced at Ian, "Right, Ian?"
Ian lowered his eyes and didn't say anything.
"Okay, now it's Ian's turn to compete. Ian says he's learned to ride before and I'd like to know how good he is." Nellie smiled sweetly, "Ian, you're going to win for me, right?"
Ian smiled at her, but his eyes were clouded.
I looked at Elias when he glanced at me. He didn't say anything, but I knew what he meant. He had full assurance of success.
Gee, how did his proud and confident attitude get me so fascinated?
When the race came to the second lap, Ian's horse was right behind Elias'.
I clenched my fist nervously.
In the meantime, Nellie came up to me and talked to me seemingly unintentionally, "Jacqueline, who are you worried about?"
As I looked at her in surprise, she turned back to her innocent self with a pure and sweet smile on her face.
My eyes were drawn to Elias' slender figure and handsome face, "Nellie, are you kidding? I'm cheering for my husband, of course."
The race was over and Elias came out on top.
As I went to change, I overheard some of the people gossiping about Elias.
"What the hell is that Elias about, and why was he able to marry the president of TR Group? He's not even from our circle."
"You don't understand," The other guy said, "The one called Elias is young and extremely good-looking. Jacqueline is the youngest female president of TR and even Silas is afraid of her. She's got everything, so what's wrong with playing with the toy boy?"
"They're just playing? Didn't they already get their marriage license?"
"Do you believe she's going to stay with one? You're so naive. Now she's just having fun, and when she gets tired of him, she'll just dump him."
"Elias is quite pathetic according to what you said."
"Pathetic? He'll enjoy the glory and wealth after a few years with the wealthy woman. Even if Jacqueline dumps him, she will give him cars, houses, and checks. What a good deal."
I only found it amusing when I heard it. These people actually said bad things about me right in front of me.
I was about to go out when I saw a figure walk up to them, which was no other than Elias.
His face was gloomy. Apparently, he had heard every word of what they had just said.
The men who were gossiping saw him appear and panicked for a moment, but quickly washed their hands and stopped talking with their heads down.
Elias turned on the faucet, washed his hands quietly, turned it off, and left.
As they breathed a sigh of relief, Elias suddenly turned back and said nonchalantly, "Have you heard of a story?"
"In ancient times, those who usually speak ill of others behind their backs ended up having their tongues pulled out."
The men looked pale and dared not speak out even though they were angry.
I stifled my laughter. I couldn't wait to praise Elias, who was indeed the man I took a fancy to. He hadn't been with me long, yet he had learned to be a bit like me.
