Chapter 13: The Sudden Arrival of My Ex-Boyfriend
Ian Yates.
Ian and I had met in college.
I had first met him at the opening ceremony of freshmen.
At that time, I had been the president of the student council and in charge of the welcoming speech while Ian had been the representative of the freshmen.
I had heard that he had been the top scorer of the province.
After I had finished my welcoming speech, he had come on stage after me.
When I had handed him the microphone, my finger had accidentally touched his fingertips.
At that moment, it had been as if an electric current had passed through my body, and I had withdrawn my hand quickly, but he hadn't paid much attention to it and had walked on stage with the microphone calmly.
I had sat in the front row and had watched him talk eloquently off script.
He had been a very good-looking boy.
He had had bushy eyebrows, large eyes, rosy lips, and pretty white teeth. He had been wearing a simple white shirt, his hair black and thick, and he had looked pure and fresh.
Later, he had joined the student council with his ability and had spent time with me.
Over time, my curiosity about him had turned into affection. One day, I had asked him banteringly, "Ian, how about I be your girlfriend?"
I thought he would have refused because he had been shy, but he had stared at me seriously, then had lowered his head and said softly, "OK."
First love had always been beautiful and romantic.
When I had been dating Ian, he had always woken up early in the morning and waited under my dormitory with breakfast. Every day, he had accompanied me to the library. He had always been there for me when I had been busy with student council work.
All my roommates had envied me for having such a considerate and gentle boyfriend.
But the beautiful days had lasted only six months.
The day before my birthday, Ian had suddenly decided to break up with me.
I had asked him for a reason very calmly.
He had only told me that he had been sorry.
After that, he had broken off contact with me.
Until one day, I had seen Ian holding hands with a woman with exquisite makeup. The sweet smile on their faces had stung my eyes.
Then he had gotten into a blindingly red Ferrari.
Later I had learned that Ian's new girlfriend had been Cheryl Wilson, the daughter of the boss of Wilson Group.
When my roommate had found out about this, she had cursed in the dormitory, "What kind of man is that? I thought he was a faithful man, but he betrayed you after meeting a rich woman. Jacqueline, it's better to cut loss in time. Just forget that bastard..."
However, it had been my first love and it had been impossible for me not to be upset because I had given him my heart.
For the first time, I had wholeheartedly loved a man but had been betrayed in the end.
After so long, his appearance did not change much and he still had the same light scent on him. I smelled the jasmine scent in particular from the moment he walked in the door.
I looked at Silas sharply, who looked as usual, leaning against the sofa as if watching a show.
"Yates, this is Jacqueline Thompson, whom I have told you about, the president of the southeast region of TR Group. Sitting in this position at a young age is not something ordinary people can do."
I remained silent with a stern face.
He seemed unaware of it and said, "I heard the two of you are alumni. You must have a lot to talk about since you haven't seen each other for so long, so I'll leave you to talk about your old times."
"Jacqueline, it's been a long time." Ian looked at me with a light under his eyes that I couldn't understand.
"Yeah, it's been a long time." I mumbled.
So long that if I hadn't seen Cheryl and if you hadn't appeared in front of me at just the right time, I would have kicked you out of my mind completely.
Ian wanted to speak, but he froze for a moment when he suddenly saw the ring on my ring finger. He asked, "You're married?"
I deliberately fiddled with the ring, "Yeah, I just got married. My husband loves me very much."
"Really?" He managed a little smile, "I'd like to meet him some day."
"Meet him for what? Do you want to tell Elias about the stupid past between us, or provoke him, or be the third person?" I thought in my heart.
"He doesn't like to meet strangers." I emphasized the word "strangers".
Ian looked increasingly grim.
I deliberately looked to the right and left and asked, "By the way, where is Cheryl? Have you married after all these years?"
The handsome face became pale. After a long time, he said in a low voice, "She and I have broken up a long time ago."
I exaggeratedly sighed and shook my head in pretended pity, "That's a shame, you two were a perfect match."
"Jacqueline," he laughed bitterly, "Stop being sarcastic. I know you hate me in your heart."
It was said that some people who did wrong but they had the ability to blame the fault on others. So, I couldn't vent my anger and complain even though I had been betrayed by him back then?
"I don't hate you." I said, "It takes a lot of effort to hate someone and keep the person you hate in mind, I don't have that much time." I got up, "I don't know how Silas found you, but if you want to do something to me, I'm telling you, quit it as soon as you can."
With that, I grabbed my bag and walked away.
Ian called out behind me, "Jacqueline, I'm sorry."
I stopped walking without turning around, "Excuse me, I don't need a late apology."
I walked out the door and the cool air hit me. I took a deep breath and my head cleared up.
I had to admit that I still felt bloody terrible inside.
Silas really knew how to hit where it hurt.
Alcohol was the best option when I was down.
When Elias called, I picked up the phone with the last bit of sobriety left in my head. As soon as I got the call, a low male voice came from the other end.
"Where are you?"
"Elias, come pick me up."
"Address."
The address...
I handed the phone to the bartender, "Tell him where this is."
The bartender took it, gave the address, then handed the phone back to me, and said, "Please stay put. He said he'd be right here and told me to keep an eye on you."
I grinned, "It's nice to have someone who cares about me."
A short time later, Elias arrived.
I was so drunk my brain wouldn't work, but I still saw him at first glance. In this bar, he was like a cool breeze that cleansed away all the filth.
He walked up to me and looked down at me with his eyebrows furrowed. He asked, "How much have you drunk?"
I slurred my words, "Not... Not much, just a little." I wrapped my arms around his neck and whispered in his ear.
He glared at me in anger but gently lifted me up in his arms. Leaning on his thick chest, I felt more at ease than ever.
This man belonged to me.
In a daze, I murmured, "Elias, you're so good. I love you so much."
