Chapter 21: Wine Tasting Competition
It was already lunchtime after we changed.
Nellie told us, "I actually have a game scheduled for today, but it's a little difficult, so it's not too late to abstain."
At the table, a man named Zachary said, "Miss Chelton has been kind enough to invite us to dinner and play. We are willing to accept. No one here is abstaining, right?"
With that, he turned the tables on Elias, "Right, Mr. Silva?"
Another man said, "Mr. Jones, it doesn't have to be. Mr. Silva is not one of us after all, so he may not know many things for now. Don't make things difficult for him."
He seemed to be offering Elias help, but in fact it was an obvious mockery.
I was about to get up and defend Elias when a big warm hand held me down.
I looked down and saw Elias shaking his head at me.
I took a deep breath and put on a smile, "Mr. Jones, Mr. Lincoln, I know you've seen all the world, but..." I said lightly, "We still have to keep a low profile, after all, there are always people who are better than us."
The two of them dared not talk back when they saw it was me speaking, although they were unhappy.
Nellie said, "It's actually not that hard. This game is all about wine tasting. Whoever wins by naming all these wines and their vintages. My daddy has promised that whoever wins, these wines will be given to him or her."
"Can we change the reward?" In the silence of the room, Elias's low voice rang out across the large dining room.
"It's better not to draw the long bow." said Mr. Jones as he looked at Elias with a mocking face.
"That's right. Mr. Silva, don't say anything you can't do. Mr. Chelton's wine is not something you can guess. Don't be overconfident, it's Ms. Thompson's face you're going to lose later."
"I don't mind." I looked over at the two men who were raising their voices, "Elias is my husband. I fully support whatever he does."
The subtext of my comment was: will you noisy ducks shut up?
"What reward?" Nellie asked.
Elias looked around the room and finally looked at me before saying, "If I win, your father must grant Jacqueline one request."
I looked at Elias in surprise.
Ian's face changed when he heard that, but he eventually calmed down.
"Sure." Nellie clapped her hands, "Bring the wine."
The wine in ten tall glasses was red and beautiful and the aroma of the wine alone made people feel immersed in it. I couldn't help but wonder that Steven really had good taste.
Just by smelling the wine, I knew these were unusual.
"I'll start." Zachary took a glass, smelled it, then poured some into his own glass, tasted it, frowned, and hesitated, "This is Louis'..."
After hesitating for a long time, Zachary couldn't say a word.
The people on the side urged him, "What is it?"
Zachary was anxious, wiped the sweat from his forehead, drank some more, and frowned tightly, but he still couldn't say it.
"Louis XIV." Elias said calmly, "This is Merlot of Louis XIV, produced in 1945..."
Not only did the others look at Elias with shocked faces, but I was also very surprised.
I just thought of this wine tasting competition as a game for his pleasure. I didn't expect him to know these expensive and famous wines as a commoner.
But he didn't even drink it, he just smelled it, and he knew.
"That's the right answer, Elias, you're amazing." Nellie applauded while saying, "It took even my brother a long time to guess this wine."
"But..." Nellie winked, "I wonder if Elias will still be able to guess it next." She smiled mischievously, "As I said before, you have to guess all of them correctly."
"Please." Elias was fearless.
Nellie had a second glass brought out.
Elias poured some and took a sip, tasting the wine with such professional poise that I, who had studied wine tasting specifically, felt as if he was doing it constantly.
"Romanee Conti's Flying Snow."
"Right answer."
All the people in the room went from calm to shock, and then from shock to awe. Even Zachary and Mr. Lincoln, who had been picking on Elias at the beginning, looked at Elias with a different look.
I was so proud of him inside.
I thought I had just found a poor little puppy, but I didn't expect this little puppy to be so profound. Not only could he speak French, cook, but he could also taste wine?
Elias guessed all ten bottles of wine correctly without a hitch.
I was the first to applaud, followed by thunderous applause as everyone, including Zachary, clapped their hands.
In the face of all this, Elias remained calm and his expression did not even change. He waited for silence and then asked Nellie, "Does what you just said count?"
"Of course it counts." The look of Nellie at Elias became completely different, "My daddy will definitely agree to what I say, don't worry."
My heart slightly tightened.
Could it be that Nellie was coveting my husband?
Maybe I was overthinking it.
I had thought it was a trap, but not only did it solve the problem in my mind, but I also gained a lot of expensive wine.
Elias was my hero.
When we arrived home, I put the wine in the wine cellar and pulled Elias into the room and said, "Honey, can you tell me now why you know about wine tasting?"
He said lightly, "I used to work at a winery."
"Oh, you used to work in a winery. What winery? Can you tell me about it?"
Seeing me approaching, Elias said, "It's hot. I want to take a shower first."
"Go ahead." Since he didn't want to tell me, I didn't have to ask. Besides, I was happy tonight, and it was such a nice atmosphere, so I had to celebrate.
I opened a bottle of Louis XIV.
When Elias came out of the shower, he saw me sitting on the sofa with a tall glass in my hand, gazing at him.
"Honey, come here."
He hesitated for a moment, but finally walked over to me and sat down. I poured a glass of red wine for him and handed it to him, "Cheers."
After drinking several glasses of wine, I was already slightly drunk.
When I looked at Elias, his eyes were still clear, but his cheeks were already covered with two pieces of evening haze. My eyes fell on his neck, watching him swallowing, I felt thirsty.
He changed into the pajamas I bought on a rare occasion today. The V-neck design of the pajamas exposed his collarbones.
If I had nothing in my mind with such a beautiful man by my side, would I still be human?
I moved close to him slowly, a hand slowly creeping up his strong thin waist and abdomen. Suddenly, his big hand grabbed me, making me unable to move.
His dark eyes looked at me in an obscure way.
I didn't say anything but blew into his ear, watching with my own eyes as his body shook and his ears turned red.
This man.
I intensified my efforts and baited him slowly.
After a few moments, Elias's breathing became heavier and his eyes began to be blurred, but he still held on to the last bit of his bottom line, his hand still clutching me.
I laughed, "Honey, your body is much more honest than you are."
