Chapter 53: Belated Affectionateness
After steadying me, he took Nicholas over without hesitation.
"You... Give Nicholas back to me." I tried to take Nicholas back, but I found that my ankle hurt like hell.
The pain made me groan lightly.
Elias quickly noticed it, "What's wrong with your foot?"
"Don't worry about it. Give me back Nicholas."
"Did you sprain your ankle?" He held Nicholas and had to distract himself from checking my injury.
"I said, don't worry about it. Don't you understand? Give me back Nicholas or I'll be rude."
"Wait here, I'll put Nicholas in the car and drive over to pick you up."
"Do you think I'll let Nicholas go with you?" I ignored the pain in my ankle and was determined to snatch Nicholas from him.
Our movements woke Nicholas up.
"Shhhh. Let's not involve the kid in our problems. If I am the least bit careful of Nicholas, I'll die in my boots, okay?"
Saying that, he had already ignored my objection and carried Nicholas away.
I should have gone after him, but for some reason, I still damn well believed him deep down.
A moment later, the Bentley pulled up in front of me, and Nicholas was awake by now, sitting still in the safety seat.
Elias got out of the car and came over to help me.
"I don't need your help. I can walk by myself."
He put his hand and didn't get annoyed but just stared at me from behind.
I chose to sit in the back seat, taking him as a driver.
"Mommy, what happened to your foot?" Nicholas saw me limping and was a little worried.
"I'm fine, don't worry." I kissed his cheek, "Nicholas, let's go home and Mommy will make you something delicious."
"But Mommy's hurt." Nicholas had a serious face like a little adult, "Mommy, we can get a takeaway. It's okay."
Elias in the front seemed to want to say something but still drove quietly.
Soon after, Elias drove the car to the underground garage of a large shopping mall.
"I'm going to the supermarket to buy some things, please wait for me in the car, I'll be right back."
"Okay, mommy and I will wait for you." Nicholas promised seriously.
I didn't say anything with a long face.
Seeing that I didn't say anything, Elias didn't hurry to go but decided to wait here.
I thought it would take long for us to face each other if we went on like this.
So, I said, "I'm the same as Nicholas."
At that, Elias finally went away, satisfied.
It didn't take long for him to get back. He put the shopping bags in the trunk and got back to the driver's seat.
The longer I watched him drive, the more familiar I felt.
Why did he look so much like the man driving the white car in the underground parking lot that year?
But now, I was annoyed with him and couldn't wait to beat him up, not in the mood to ask him these questions.
When we arrived at the door, I thanked him even though I had a lot of grievance inside, based on my upbringing.
After saying that, I intended to close the door.
Nicholas had a sad look on his face.
The moment I closed the door, Elias said lightly, "You have sprained your ankle. If you don't treat it, it will be swollen tomorrow. Besides, how can you cook for Nicholas since you are injured?"
"Not your business." I said impatiently, "What's the use of you crying crocodile tears now? You have disappeared for the past five years and now you pretend to be affectionate. Let me tell you, I don't need belated concern at all."
"I haven't..."
"I don't want to bring up the past, nor do I want to see you anymore. The only thing we have to do now is to get a divorce."
After the door closed, Nicholas asked cautiously, "Mommy, you seem to hate Uncle."
Elias was right, we didn't have to involve the child in our "war". He was still too young to understand it.
"No. Nicholas, are you hungry? Mommy will make you something to eat."
"But you're hurt. Let's have a takeaway pizza."
"No, Nicholas, you're growing up and you can't eat so much unhealthy food. Mommy will cook you some noodles, okay? Play with your toys in the living room and wait for Mommy."
After that, I went to the kitchen to cook some noodles.
But I burned my hand because I was hurry-scurry.
I didn't scream out for fear that Nicholas would worry about me.
At that moment, there was a knock at the door, I covered my hand and went to open the door. When I saw Elias standing at the door, I couldn't stand it anymore, "Elias, what the hell do you want?
"Can you stop haunting me? Ever since you appeared, I've either had a fever or sprained my ankle or burned my hand. Can you stay away from me? I get annoyed when I see you."
He didn't say anything when he saw my burnt hand but immediately came inside and took me to rinse my hand with cold water.
I struggled and Elias grabbed my hand, "Don't move. If you don't do this, you'll get a blister on your hand."
"Mommy, what's wrong with you?" Nicholas heard the noise and ran over. He smiled happily when he saw Elias was here, "Uncle, you're here."
"Nicholas, be a good boy, go to the living room and play with your toys. I'll cook you something delicious."
"Okay."
The boy went to the living room obediently.
I wondered.
Could this boy be too enthusiastic about strangers he had met a few times?
Nicholas was cute with round eyes and a doll-like face. Strangers liked to talk to him, but he never was this interested in them.
Why did he treat Elias so "specially"?
Was it because they were biological father and son that there was a special telepathy between them?
"But, kid, aren't you too careless to just leave your mommy to a stranger?" I thought in my mind.
"What's that look on your face?" Elias asked.
"Greek gift." I said snappily.
Elias didn't care about my sarcasm.
Five years had passed, I found that he had not only matured a lot, his temper was also a lot better.
In the past, when I had been sarcastic, he would not have hesitated to retort.
But now, he just smiled nicely, "Don't be angry. Where is the medical kit? I'll check your ankle."
Reluctantly, I pointed to somewhere in the distance.
Elias helped me sit down and went to get the medical kit.
After bringing the kit over, he knelt down, carefully placed my foot on his knee without hesitation, and rubbed and plastered my ankle.
Looking at this, everything from the past seemed to reappear once again.
Back then, he had also been so focused and serious with his head down, as if he had only had me in his eyes.
At that time, I had been really happy.
But now, I only sighed when I thought about that.
Things had all changed.
"Elias, why do you come back here?"
He raised his eyes.
