Chapter 47: Men Would Only Be a Drag on Me
If I hadn't been mindful of my status, I might have given Elias a beating regardless.
But I couldn't lay a finger on him.
He was the young master of Silva Consortium and after today's dinner, would become the man at the wheel of Silva Consortium.
If TR Group wanted to cooperate with Silva Consortium, I had to be respectful to him.
Screw that.
How could I suppress the idea of punching him when I thought that this man had made me wait for five years and the possibility that he had just played with me and finally left after getting bored and even laughed at me behind my back probably?
The little girl was a little nervous when she saw me clench my teeth and my fists tightly, "Jacqueline, what's wrong with you?"
"I'm fine." I forced out a smile, "I'm okay."
She cringed a little, "But I feel like you want to hit someone."
Well, children were indeed observant.
Then she asked, "Jacqueline, you don't like Elias? He's actually very nice and you'll know it after you spend time with him."
I laughed inwardly.
He was indeed very nice.
He had acted so well that he had fooled me.
"Is that so?" I smiled.
I went to Ian after getting changed.
However, Ian's face was not much better than mine.
And he looked at me evasively as if he wanted to say something.
"Jacqueline, there's something I want to tell you, but you have to be prepared for it, and it's about Silva Consortium..."
I reached out to stop him, "You don't have to say it. I know it all. The heir of Silva Consortium is no other than my husband Elias, who has been missing for five years."
Ian was clearly surprised, "You knew it? How?"
I couldn't look any better, "I ran into him."
Ian was silent for a long time before he found his voice, "So what are you... what are you going to do?"
"What do you mean?" I asked him back.
He looked cautious, "TR Group is bound to work with Silva Consortium to expand more business, but now..."
"What now? Business is business. I've never acted impetuously."
Ian no longer looked at me worriedly but instead admiringly, "Jacqueline, you've been able to sit in this position today by more than just your intelligence. You have a breadth of mind that ordinary women don't have."
"Oh, really?" I sneered, "You're flattering me. I can't wait to do all the sparring, taekwondo, and judo I've learned on Elias."
Ian was speechless.
I noticed that he gasped and quietly moved away from me a bit.
What was he afraid of?
I was not a tigress. Besides, I didn't attack indiscriminately.
The party started promptly at 7:00 pm.
Silva Consortium had been in business for 100 years. Its wealth could no longer be compared with the rich list and it had the prestige and status that ordinary people could not imagine.
The party tonight gathered all the most prestigious and important people in the world.
I had only seen some of them on TV before.
But when they heard that the chairman of Silva Consortium and his wife were coming, they all sat properly with great respect.
Ian sat next to me and introduced to me, "Terence Silva, chairman of the Silva Consortium, is fifty-three years old, and his wife, Rosie Silva, had been recuperating in New Zealand earlier years."
I nodded.
"I heard from my friend that his wife is gentle and never treats the people who work for her bad as the mistress who manages such a large estate."
I looked over at her.
It was said that one's looks had a lot to do with one's character. Mrs. Silva had a benign face and indeed seemed to be an easygoing person, but not her husband.
He was quite good-looking and must have been a handsome man when he was young. Even though he was old, his powerful aura still made people afraid to look straight at him.
In fact, Elias was more like his mother.
I meant his looks.
As for his character...
Who knew if he had been playing the fool when he had been together with me?
"Tonight, Mrs. Silva will sell a sapphire to the highest bidder." Ian said.
Silva Consortium didn't sell it for money. They must have something else in mind.
"Jacqueline, should we give it a try?"
"Why not? It's not that our TR Group doesn't have money."
Terence made a speech and left the auction to Mrs. Silva, who looked around with a warm smile and said, "It is an honor for me and my husband that you are all gathered here today. I would like to sell a sapphire."
When she finished, a delicate girl wearing gloves came up with a precious box in her hands.
Mrs. Silva told her to open the box.
"This sapphire is..." After introducing the origin of the sapphire, she said, "The starting price is five million dollars and the highest bidder will win. I will donate all the money to charity."
"Next, my son will preside over the auction."
As soon as Mrs. Silva finished speaking, a slender man in a black high-fashion suit came into view. When he appeared, my nerves were high-strung.
Not for any other reason but because he fixed his gaze on me after looking around.
"What are you looking at? I am not the one you can look at.
If you keep looking at me, I'll dig your eyes out."
I was castigating him in my heart while smiling calmly on the face.
His gaze lingered on me for a long time. Only until Mrs. Silva reminded him did he withdraw his gaze and say in a deep voice, "The auction officially begins."
"Six million..."
"Seven million."
"Nine million..."
Seeing the price getting higher and higher, Ian couldn't sit still, "Jacqueline, don't you want to give it a try?"
I took it in stride, "What's the hurry?"
When the price reached 36 million, I finally raised my sign, "Forty-five million."
Everyone in the room was shocked and looked at me.
To be honest, the sapphire did seem to be worth a lot of money, but to speculate on it for hundreds of millions of dollars was a bit inflated.
This sapphire was just a test for Terence to test everyone here.
Elias also looked at me with a gaze that seemed impenetrable.
I met his gaze without pressure and told him with practical action that I had not been miserable but better in the five years after he had left.
Men would only be a drag on me.
