Chapter 16: The Loyal Young Husband
It was dark and no one was at home when I got home in the evening. I turned on the lights and sat on the sofa making a phone call to Elias.
He had said he would cook me a big dinner tonight, but he didn't keep his word.
It took a long time for the call to get through, and the sound on the other end was a bit chaotic, but I could still hear the children's laughter.
He went to the orphanage again.
"Honey, didn't you say you were going to cook me a big dinner tonight? Why are you gone?"
"Because I thought you would spend the evening catching up with your ex-boyfriend." He made a countercharge against me.
I was speechless.
So, his generosity this morning was all an act? He actually minded it?
I didn't know why but I was actually happy instead of angry, "What kind of ex-boyfriend is that? It was long ago. Besides, he has cheated on me. I don't want a cheating toad."
Elias could always spot the loopholes in my words and sneered, "You mean, if he hasn't cheated on you, you would have been married to him by now."
Elias was always able to pick on others without being noticed.
He could piss off a person when he opened his mouth.
However, I was not to be outdone.
"Well, you have reminded me, if he hadn't cheated on me back then, I might have really been with him for a long time..." The phone was hung up before I could finish my words.
" Well, you have reminded me, if he hadn't cheated on me back then, I might have really been with him for a long time..." The phone was hung up before I could finish my words.
I didn't find it funny as I listened to the busy tone and I got up.
Shouldn't I go and make up to my husband when he got angry?
I got into my car and followed the navigation to the orphanage where Elias was staying.
But just as I arrived, I witnessed a good show.
A young girl, in her early twenties, was now leaning against Elias, while he was frowning with an impatient look as if he was saying, "What's wrong with you, can you go away?"
The young girl didn't see me, still looking at Elias with affection, "Elias..."
Elias said lightly, "Miss Jenkins, I don't know you that well, please just call me by my surname."
The lovely Miss Jenkins' face flushed. But she would not give up so easily and kept on trying, "Well, I'll call you Mr. Silva."
"Little girl, can you respect yourself a little?" I thought in my mind.
As long as she didn't feel embarrassed, it was others who were embarrassed.
Before I got goose bumps, Elias had already spoken, "Miss Jenkins, please behave yourself. I'm already married."
After saying that, he looked straight at me.
Miss Jenkins followed his gaze and saw me.
I waved my hand, "Hi, good evening."
Elias looked at me with contempt as if he was saying, "What are you watching? Why don't you come and help?"
He didn't need my help at all.
He could turn a fairy into an evil with his mouth.
I did not do anything.
"You have a wife?" The little girl looked incredulous, "Who is she?"
"It's none other than me."
The young girl looked me up and down carefully in shock and finally said, "Elias, do you like women older than you? But time is the killer of beauty. She obviously looks older than you. She will be old soon when you are still young."
In business for many years, I had long seen all kinds of evil and devil, who played a double game. But a person who was so straightforward like her was really rare than a panda.
To be honest, I wasn't angry but rather amused.
I never thought that my first rival in love would be so... dumb.
I wrapped my arms around my chest and sat back to see how Elias would deal with her.
After hearing that, he took a step back with a mocking smile on his face, "You're right, everyone gets old at some point, so what makes you think that I would fall for you?"
He glanced at me, "At least, my wife has other charms besides her face." He meant that she was talking nonsense when she had nothing but a pretty face.
The little girl lost the battle and fled crying.
"How can you be so unsympathetic?" I teased him, "She has no ill will, she just likes you."
He looked aggrieved, "You were watching the show with great interest."
I snorted, "I usually hate your eloquence, but I was so happy to watch you diss her."
He glanced at me, "Are you happy that I refuse the girl or that your first love is back?"
He wasn't done yet.
"Elias, I'm going to say this for the last time, I'll never be with Ian again, OK? I don't like him now. I kind of hate him."
"If you didn't love him, how could you hate him?"
He split hairs over words.
I frowned as I deliberately fanned myself with a hand, "Somebody's jealousy and I can even smell it in the air."
Elias rolled his eyes at me, turned around, and walked away.
I hurriedly chased after him.
I managed to catch up with him and panted, "Honey, it's not your fault that your legs are long, but it'll be your conscience if you walk slower."
He said in a depressed voice, "It's your short legs' fault."
I didn't even want to answer him.
"Oh right, drive me to get a dress before we go home."
"What dress?"
"There's a birthday party for the daughter of the chairman of the Y Group tomorrow night. I can't get the cooperation with the Y Group, so I'm going to take my chances tomorrow night."
"Y Group?" He repeated, his eyes glinting.
"Yes, the Y Group is owned by Silva Consortium. TR Group has been trying to cooperate with Silva Consortium for a long time, but Silva Consortium looks down on TR Group. Even the Y Group doesn't care about us."
After we arrived at the dress store, I tried on the dress.
The design of the dress was new and bold, and when I came out of the dressing room, the staff were all in awe. Only Elias was sitting on the couch in silence.
"How do you like it?" I asked him.
"Far from good." He put the magazine down and glanced up at me, "Not for you."
I was intrigued, "Why?"
He started playing dumb again.
I lifted my dress and sat down next to him, "Don't stay silent. Tell me why this dress doesn't fit me?"
He looked up, "Are you sure you want me to tell the truth?"
"Yes."
"This dress is more suitable for people with thin waist. Your waist is not thick, but you don't look good in it. I think that one is good." He reached out and pointed to the gown that the staff was holding.
The pink dress with puffy sleeves and a conservative design looked like a dress of a Disney princess.
The pink dress with puffy sleeves and a conservative design looked like a dress of a Disney princess.
He had the standard aesthetic of a straight man.
Did he think I was stupid?
"Honey, did you lose your aesthetic while you were sleeping?" I joked him on purpose.
He looked at me with an innocent face, "You told me to be honest."
So, I was wrong, wasn't I?
"It's up to you then." Elias returned to his cool demeanor, holding the magazine and reading it carefully, as if he wasn't the one who had just criticized me.
By his comment, I found this dress on my body strange and my waist was really not thin enough to fit the dress.
"Change one." I said.
I didn't know if it was just me, but when I looked at Elias, I noticed that the corners of his mouth were slightly lifted and he seemed to be snickering.
It should just be my illusion.
