Chapter 54: Get Out of Here
"Five years ago, I thought we had just had a fight. My father also said that couples would inevitably quarrel and that quarrels would make the relationship better."
"But I didn't think that after just one fight because of a misunderstanding, you completely disappeared from my life."
"Since you left, why did you come back?"
There seemed to be tears in his eyes, "Jacqueline, I've got trouble that I could not tell you back then."
"What was the trouble?" I smiled sadly, "Did you get tired of me and happen to have a fight with me, which you used as an excuse to leave me?"
"Jacqueline, it's not what you think."
"I don't care anymore." I took a deep breath to get tough with him, "Don't think that I have been waiting for you. You keep getting close to me now because of Nicholas, right? Do you think he's your son?"
I sneered, "You're wrong. Nicholas is my son with Ian."
I thought that Elias would get angry, sad, and painful.
But he didn't.
"Jacqueline, don't say such words in anger."
"I didn't."
"Nicholas looks so much like me. Even if you're mad at me and hate me, don't let someone else become a 'father' without rhyme or reason."
I was speechless.
How could he tell a sick joke at such a serious moment?
"You'd be a 'father' without rhyme or reason if you claim that Nicholas is your son." He was squatting when I pushed him away without mercy. He lost his balance and fell straight to the ground.
I regretted for a moment but still said stubbornly, "Get out of here."
I tried to get a hold of myself, after all, I still wanted to work with Silva Consortium, of which he was now in charge.
However, Tina's provocation that day was really insulting to me.
I hated insults more than anything in my life.
It was true that TR Group would lose a great opportunity by not relying on Silva Consortium. But TR was not weak today.
He stood up like nothing had just happened, patted the non-existent dust off his body, and said calmly, "If I leave, who's going to make dinner for you two?"
A short time later, Elias brought a five-course meal to the table.
Those were all my favorite dishes.
Nicholas climbed into his chair and had a big grin on her face when he saw so many dishes.
"Uncle, did you make all these dishes?"
"Yes. Nicholas, wash your hands before you eat, okay?"
"Okay." Nicholas had long forgotten my "warning" in front of the delicious food and stretched his arms toward Elias, "Uncle, take me to wash my hands."
Elias didn't hug him right away but gave me a look.
I didn't know if he was simply asking me or provoking me?
I deliberately looked away and ignored him.
"Let's go wash our hands and not keep mommy waiting too long." Elias picked up Nicholas with ease and Nicholas giggled.
I looked at their backs and had mixed feelings.
I felt sad as well as painful.
This was the scene that had appeared in every dream I had had for five years.
But when the wish did come true, I realized it was just a joke of fate.
After dinner, Elias did all the housework, including washing dishes, cleaning the kitchen, and mopping the floor.
I wanted to tell him to go home, but I didn't know what to say.
Gifts blinded eyes.
Nicholas got sleepy after dinner, so I took him to the bedroom.
It didn't take long for Nicholas to fall asleep and I tiptoed out.
Elias had finished cleaning and was sitting on the couch.
When he saw me coming out, he got up and came over to help me.
"No, I can do it myself." I stopped him.
He picked me up without any objection, and the moment I was in the air, I was so scared that I wrapped my arms around his neck and said angrily, "Elias, what are you doing?"
"Your foot is injured and you can't walk, or it will get worse."
He placed me gently on the couch and turned back to the fridge to get ice, "A cold compress will make it much better."
I didn't say a word.
"Elias, why did you lie to me in the first place?"
His hand paused for a second.
My eyes sharpened as I looked at him.
Elias pressed his thin lips, "Jacqueline, I admit that I did hide my identity from you in the first place..."
My heart sank.
He admitted it.
I felt like my heart had been broken.
I pulled my foot back from his touch, "You can go home now."
"Jacqueline..." He was a little frustrated, "Can you hear me out first?"
"What's else do you want to say?" I had a mocking look on my face, "Isn't it just that you, the young master of Silva Consortium, wanted to experience the life of ordinary people, so you came and fooled me concealing your identity and eventually got bored and left without a word?"
His eyes looked deeply at me, "Jacqueline, do you really think I am such a person?"
"Aren't you?" I asked back.
He took a deep breath and stood up, "You can call me if anything comes up. I'm going back."
"Don't worry, I won't call for you even if I fall on my nose."
His brow furrowed, which was clearly a precursor to anger.
I looked at him provocatively and thought in my heart, "Fight with me, huh? If you fight with me, I will have more reasons to hate you."
But in the end, he just sighed deeply, like he was facing an unreasonably troublesome child who was having a temper tantrum, "You're injured and I won't bother about you. Let me carry you back to the bedroom."
He didn't bother about me?
What a joke.
But I was "disabled" right now and could only let him do it.
I didn't know when I had fallen asleep. When I woke up, I found Nicholas sitting next to me, looking at me with blinking big eyes.
I immediately woke up.
"Good morning, Mommy. You're finally awake."
"Nicholas, good morning." I kissed him on the cheek.
"Mommy, you were talking in your sleep." Nicholas had a mysterious look on his face.
"Oh, what did Mommy say?"
"Mommy said, 'Elias, don't go, I can't live without you'... Hmm... Mommy, why are you covering my mouth?" The little one protested with discontent.
I looked up at Elias standing in the doorway and felt extremely embarrassed.
Elias coughed lightly with a light smile on his face, "Breakfast is ready. Come out to eat after washing up."
I ignored him indifferently.
By the time I took Nicholas to the dining table, Elias came over with freshly fried soft-boiled eggs.
I said sarcastically, "I don't need a housekeeper. If you want to show off your cooking skills, you can go somewhere else."
Nicholas spoke up for him, "Mommy, Uncle is not a housekeeper. Uncle came over to help because you hurt your foot. We should thank uncle."
Thank him?
I felt so sad.
My baby had been living with me for five years but kept speaking up for Elias, who he had only met a few times.
