Chapter 56: A Storm of Jealousy
I choked.
Ian smiled embarrassedly.
After sending Ian away and putting Nicholas to bed, I planned to take care of something regarding business on the couch.
Just as I sat down, I heard the doorbell ring.
I thought Ian came back for something he had forgotten, so I went to open the door.
But I saw Elias standing in the doorway with a grim face when I opened the door.
My first reaction was to close the door.
He moved faster than I did and held the door with one hand, "I'm out of soy sauce, can I borrow some from you?"
"I have no soy sauce." I said coldly.
He laughed, "I've been in and out of your kitchen all these days. How could I not know if you have soy sauce or not?"
It seemed he was trying to barge his way in.
Unfortunately, I was no pushover either.
"Elias, can you not be so shameless? Don't you just want to divorce me and marry Tina? I'll make it happen. I'll see you at the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow."
"No..."
I didn't even listen to his explanation. Perhaps I flew into a rage, I slammed the door hard before even thinking about it, when Elias' hand was still on the door frame.
With a groan of pain and the sound of bones cracking, I knew I had gotten into trouble.
The hospital was brightly lit at night, but quiet.
The doctor in the emergency department bandaged Elias's hand and educated me, "Don't turn a couple's quarrel into a fight. Luckily it's not very serious. If it was a comminuted fracture, you'd have to cry."
I did the wrong thing and didn't dare to retort, so I bowed my head and listen to the doctor chide me.
Elias helped me out, "Go get the medicine for me."
I was so relieved that I rushed to get the medicine.
It was only until three o'clock in the morning when we got home.
I helped Elias sit down, give him water for medicine while taking a closer look at his house.
The interior decor had a cold tone, which was black, white and grey, clean but impersonal.
This was the style I had liked.
But since I had Nicholas, my whole world became colorful, so I lived in a place that was decorated in a warm tone now.
Elias's voice came slowly, "I'm fine. You can go home now."
Was this guy playing a game with me?
His hand had been injured by me and now he asked me to leave in a pitiful manner?
How artificial!
I rolled my eyes at him and handed him the water glass, "I'll go back when everything is done. You you don't have to rush me."
He looked down and drank the water, his eyes blinking lightly, "I didn't rush you."
"I'll go back and check on Nicholas. Go get some rest and I'll come back later."
To avoid the danger of Nicholas being home alone, I had asked Yvette to come over my home even though I felt guilty about it.
Yvette opened the door.
"Boss, how's Mr. Silva?"
"Just call him Elias." Why so polite to him?
Yvette seemed to look down and smile at my squirm.
"Okay then, how's Elias?"
I said with a stern face, "His bones have been fractured."
"Fractured?" Yvette stared in disbelief, "How could his bones have been fractured only after getting caught in a door?"
What was impossible? I had used so much force and my door was so thick and heavy.
The doctor was right that Elias was lucky he didn't suffer a comminuted fracture.
Yvette coughed lightly and said in a serious manner, "Boss, Elias has been cooking and doing chores for you and Nicholas for some days. You have to be nice to him even for Nicholas' sake, right? After all, he is Nicholas' real father, isn't he? I'll take care of Nicholas for a few days so that you can go take care of him and make up for your mistake."
I opened my mouth and wanted to retort that I hadn't done anything wrong, but I finally shut up.
Well, I did hurt his hand.
When I got back to Elias's house, the light was still on in his living room, but he was gone.
I followed the dim light to the bedroom and found him already asleep in bed.
I stood in the doorway for a moment before I was ready to leave, when I heard him say, "Jacqueline, don't go."
I immediately turned around.
The next moment, I was relieved that he was just talking in his sleep.
However, after hearing him talking in his sleep, I was in no hurry to leave and went straight to him, sat next to him, and asked in a light voice, "Elias, do you love Tina?"
I didn't know what the heck I was doing by asking such a question.
I felt like I was going backward in my life.
Iggy had taught me to be liberal, but I was not at all liberal right now. I was no longer bold and confident.
I got up to leave.
I didn't expect he would reply me.
He said, "I don't love Tina. I only love one person and that is Jacqueline."
How could a person talk in his sleep so clearly and even answer the question?
I sneered, wrapped my arms around my chest, and watched him acting, "Elias, you don't have to act."
Elias slowly opened his eyes and stared at me with love and tenderness. Such a look made me a little afraid to look at him directly.
I was afraid that I would once again fall deep into his tenderness.
"Jacqueline..."
"Don't call me."
He shut his mouth in grievance.
For the sake of his injury, I softened my tone a bit, "Get some sleep. Call me if you need anything. I'll be in the living room."
He nodded.
His injury would take time to recover.
While Elias was sleeping, I did some googling to see what he could eat to make the fracture heal faster.
I did this solely because I wanted to break off with him quickly, not out of concern.
I fell asleep on the couch without realizing it before dawn.
In my daze, someone came up to me, gently covered me with a blanket, and sat quietly beside me for a long time.
The next day, I was awakened by the doorbell.
I woke up in a daze and went to open the door but didn't expect the person standing at the door was Ian.
"Who is it?" Elias came out of the bedroom.
The three of us were facing each other in an awkward atmosphere.
Elias' handsome face quickly turned gloomy.
"What are you doing here?" I asked Ian.
"I came to visit you and Nicholas, but Yvette said Mr. Silva has gotten his hand injured, and I thought you had no experience in caring for the injured, so it would be better if I came."
Let Ian take care of Elias?
Wouldn't he secretly poison Elias into a fool?
Of course, this was just a little joke inside me. I mean, how would Elias be willing to let Ian take care of him?
Sure enough, Elias laughed, "It's just a slight injury. How can I bother you, Mr. Yates?"
"It's okay, I have nothing to do anyway. But Jacqueline is different. She has to take care of Nicholas and deal with the company, unlike someone who has dumped things on someone else for five years."
Were they going to fight if they kept arguing?
