Chapter 22: My Man Was Up To Me
Hearing my words, Elias's breathing stopped for an instant. Perhaps he was annoyed, he suddenly got up when I was afraid of falling and hugged him with my whole body, hanging on to him like a sloth.
"So... You want to play something a little exciting, huh?" I smiled as my legs climbed around him, "Honey, let's go to the bedroom."
Elias held me and carried me into the room with such ease.
I thought the timing was right and he wouldn't have any more qualms or resistance, but instead he intended to leave after he placed me on the bed.
What?
He stopped at a point of no return?
Was he a celibate priest?
I pulled him back, resigned, "Elias, are you a monk? I'm such a beautiful woman and you don't even care."
Elias covered me with the blanket, "You have drunk a lot of wine, hurry up and sleep."
How could I sleep?
I wanted to kick him in the face.
I knew the reason Elias didn't sleep with me. In a way, he was being responsible for me. But this responsibility was extremely ridiculous to me.
"Elias, do you think I'm going to dump you, so you're afraid to sleep with me?"
He frowned, seemingly uncomfortable with what I said.
I put it differently, "Are you afraid that we will eventually separate, so you don't want to have too much entanglement with me and you are afraid that I will get pregnant with your child, right?" In fact, I wanted to add, "If you're that afraid, there are so many contraceptives now that you have absolutely nothing to worry about."
However, before I could finish, he had already admitted, "Yes."
Yes what?
I didn't react for a moment, and after I reacted that he was answering me, I felt aggrieved and resentful. I thought I was the best in the business world, I could get the wind and the rain, but with Elias, I could only admit defeat.
"Jacqueline, it's not the right time." The bedroom had only a dim bedside lamp on and his face was hidden in the darkness.
I couldn't see his expression, but the seriousness and guilt in his words were tangible.
"I heard what those men said at Nellie's house."
I simply turned on the light and let him look me in the eye, "I, Jacqueline, swear to God that I have absolutely no intention of fooling you. I really want to marry someone and you happen to be the one I'm looking for. Maybe we still have a lot to work out now, but rest assured that you are definitely not what they call a 'toy boy'."
Elias' eyes blinked slightly.
I coughed lightly, "The reason why I'm hitting on you is because you are such a handsome man and I can't resist the temptation."
Elias was speechless when he found that I was not serious again.
The next day, Steven took the initiative to contact me and said he wanted me to talk about the cooperation.
I went straight to Y Group and followed the assistant to Steven's office.
He was very polite when he saw me. After shaking hands with me, he smilingly asked his assistant to make tea.
When there were only two of us in the office, Steven took a sip of tea and said seemingly unintentionally, "Mrs. Silva, I didn't get to talk much with you at Nellie's birthday party last time, but this time, I must talk to you."
I was a little surprised and wondered how Steven's attitude toward me had changed 180 degrees. Even if it was because Elias had won the game and Nellie had talked to her dad yesterday, it wasn't enough to make Steven's attitude so...
ingratiating.
Yes, I saw flattery in his eyes.
But even though I had my doubts inside, I remained calm outwardly, "Mr. Chelton, what are you talking about? It's my honor to work with you, as well as TR's honor."
"The cooperation is something we can talk about later." Steven waved his hand and said with a smile, "But I also have a proposal, just a proposal."
Proposal?
"Mr. Chelton, please say it. As long as TR and I can do it, we will definitely do it for you."
"It has nothing to do with TR." Steven put down his teacup, "At the end of this month, it will be the wedding anniversary of my wife and I. At that time, we will hold a party on a cruise ship, and I hope you can come with Mr. Silva."
Elias?
Why was Steven so interested in Elias? Was it because of his performance on the race course yesterday?
It was not that I was overthinking it, but did Steven want Elias to be his son-in-law? But Elias was already married. However, an old fox like him might have some tricks up his sleeve waiting for us.
Was he not satisfied with Ian?
I smiled and said, "It is a great honor for me and my husband to have you invite us." I deliberately emphasized the word "husband".
Then, as if unintentionally, I said, "Mr. Chelton, if I may ask, is Ian from our company invited?"
As expected, when Steven heard Ian's name, he looked displeased briefly, but he quickly recovered.
But it was also this subtle expression that made me understand that Steven did not like Ian.
I turned back to the topic, "Mr. Chelton, how about the cooperation..."
When I came out of Steven's office, I ran into Nellie, who saw me and greeted me like a bird, as if she knew me very well.
"Jacqueline."
"Miss Chelton."
"You can just call me Nellie." She waved her hand, "How did you get on with my dad about the partnership? Jacqueline, I didn't know your husband was so awesome. You have a good eye for men."
She was full of compliments for Elias.
I felt depressed.
"Ian's nice too. He's gentle and he's an MIT grad." I wanted to test her and confirm my suspicions.
Sure enough, Nellie wrinkled her nose, "Ian and I have broken up peacefully."
"Ian was nice, but we weren't right for each other." She meant something different, "I think another person is more suitable for me, but unfortunately it's still a bit difficult to pursue him at the moment."
She looked at me meaningfully.
I cursed in my heart, but I still put on a decent smile on my face, not letting her notice my anger.
This little girl really did have her eye on Elias.
She saw Ian at her birthday party, but after dating him, she realized that Elias was better, so she set her sights on him.
Elias was my husband.
And she was coveting my man?
After saying goodbye to Nellie, I went back to the office.
"Get Ian here." I said to Yvette.
Soon, Ian came in.
Although he had just broken up, he looked not at all sad or painful. More than anything, it seemed to me that he was relieved.
"I heard that you and Nellie broke up." I cut to the chase.
"Yes." Ian nodded, "We broke up yesterday."
