Chapter 26: I "Opened the Back Door" for My Husband
I pinched his hand and came up to his ear, "Elias, you're doing a great job of meddling in other people's business after a midnight battle with me last night."
He didn't show any displeasure even when I pinched him. He just said, "I'm just getting it over with."
I didn't know what Elias had done to get Ian and Nellie to share a room, but he had done it.
That solved my crisis once and for all.
Nellie couldn't even clear up her own messy situation and she had no time to think about my man anymore.
I gently squeezed Elias's hand, "You don't believe I can protect you?" He needed to do it himself?
"Yes." He actually nodded seriously.
Yes?
I was mad, but then I was amused.
Elias was never one to be at the mercy of others and I should have known that from the first day I had met him.
The cruise was a thrilling one.
I reaped the benefits of working with Steven and having Elias under my wing.
After signing the partnership contract with Y Group, I considered getting a position for Elias in the company.
"Starting from tomorrow, come to work at my company. I have arranged a position for you."
Elias was cooking, and when he heard my proposal, he paused slightly.
"What's wrong?" I walked up behind him and put my arms around his strong but thin waist, "Isn't it nice that we can commute together and spend time together?"
He put down the spoon and turned around, his eyes obscure.
"Just because you want to spend time with me?"
Of course not. Seeing him 24 hours a day was just an excuse for me.
I hadn't known much about him before, but after what happened at the racetrack and on the cruise ship, I knew Elias wasn't just a quiet and well-behaved little puppy. He was a jewel that was just temporarily covered in dust.
What I wanted to do was to make this pearl shine again, so that everyone would notice him.
"Honey, fight alongside me and we'll be a top fighting force together."
Elias pinched my nose and smirked, "Didn't you tell me that you'd be in charge of making money and raising a family and I could just do what I want?"
That was just me joking.
"If you don't want to, I won't force you." I said intentionally, "It's not like I can't afford to support our family. You can buy whatever you like, and I will be responsible for making money."
Elias grunted, "I'm not going to spend your money."
I kissed him on the lips suddenly and stepped back before he could glare at me, "What's do you mean by ‘your money'? We're married and our property is joint. What's mine is yours."
"I'll think about it." Elias said with a blush.
A day later, Elias gave me the answer. He agreed to work in my company.
"I've chosen a few positions for you, take your pick, which one do you like?" I handed him the documents and let him choose for himself.
But Elias took a few glances and frowned, "You ask me to be a manager as soon as I start working for the company? Aren't you afraid they'll say you're opening the back door for me and using your power for personal use?"
I coughed lightly, "I believe you have the ability."
He rolled his eyes at me, put the documents aside, and said seriously, "I'll start from the bottom."
I kind of couldn't believe my ears, "You're saying that you're going to start at the bottom?"
"Yes." He didn't hesitate, "I'll start from the bottom."
"But it's very hard and tiring."
He looked at me calmly, "Do you think I am afraid of hardship and tiredness?"
Not exactly. Every time I saw him do all kinds of dirty and hard work in the orphanage, I knew he was a very patient and enduring person.
"Okay." I nodded my head and agreed.
On Monday, Elias reported for duty at the company.
Along with Elias, there were three other interns. Like Elias, they all started as interns.
I had read all the other three people's profiles. They were all graduates of prestigious universities and the best one was from Stanford University.
I took a look at his profile.
He was Neil Yount, 23 years old, and a handsome boy according to his identification photo.
Compared with them, Elias was indeed at a disadvantage.
But I always believed that education was not everything. Even if Elias had not been highly educated, he could still stand out in the company.
Yvette was a little worried, "Boss, Mr. Silva won't let you announce your relationship, do you think he will be picked on?"
I shook my head and laughed, "Yvette, you don't know Elias well enough. He is not someone who will allow others to pick on him for nothing."
Yvette breathed a sigh of relief, "Then I'm relieved."
I was in a good mood and teased her, "What are you so worried about him for?"
Yvette waved her hand vigorously, "Boss, don't get me wrong. I'm just worried that you'll feel sorry for him."
"I'll feel sorry for him?"
Yvette said, "I know you have Mr. Silva on your mind and you are more anxious than anyone else if he gets hurt."
I was a little stunned.
Had I acted so obviously?
Was it really the case that those closely involved could not see clearly?
"Have the four interns been arranged?"
"Yes."
"Call them to the conference room this afternoon. I want to talk to them briefly."
After taking care of things in the afternoon, I went to the conference room.
The door to the conference room was unlocked and I could hear the chatter coming from inside.
One of the boys said, "Hey, what's the deal with that Elias? I just peeked at his profile and the page with his degree is blank."
"Blank?" Another boy snickered, "TR is at least a big company. He actually gets in by the back door."
"Shh, beware of eavesdroppers!"
"I can't talk about it? Let alone Neil, a Stanford graduate, the two of us are both outstanding. Elias practicing with us is just insulting."
"Right." The boy who started it all sighed softly, "Maybe he'll be the one who laughs the last laugh."
"It's not fair." Another boy smacked the table and said in a gruff voice.
"Alright." A clear voice sounded with a stabilizing tone, "Since we all entered the company internship, all are equal. We all start from the bottom as well. No matter what school he graduated from, it does not affect his fair competition with us. You guys should put your mind on your work."
I nodded my head and appreciated this person called Neil.
At a young age, he was calm and collected.
"What are you doing standing at the door?" Elias' voice sounded behind me.
I was startled and turned around.
I wondered if he had heard the people gossiping about him behind his back inside.
But seeing that he looked as normal, I wasn't sure.
"Nothing. Go in."
"I'll go in first. You can come in after a while." Elias pushed the door open, "Lest others say I get in through the back door."
He had actually heard it.
I was both annoyed and amused.
