Chapter 6: Playing Cat and Mouse
I turned around and pressed the young man against the wall. He was flattered with a look of surprise and delight, "Jacqueline..."
I ignored him and looked at Elias from the corner of my eye, who was already walking towards me with a sullen face and pressed lips.
The young man saw me go from cold to "passionate" and his hands approached me. However, he was thrown to the side like a chicken before his hand was raised.
The person who threw him was no other than Elias.
After throwing the guy aside, Elias looked at me with sharply and sarcastically, "Jacqueline, you're having a good time."
Oh, was he jealous?
I leaned against the wall with a smile and didn't say anything.
"Who are you?" The man looked Elias up and down, saw that he was wearing the uniform of the club, and snorted contemptuously, "You're just a part-timer, so get out of here! I'm having fun with Jacqueline. Believe it or not, I'll tell your boss and you'll lose your job tonight."
Elias gently glanced at him and he immediately stopped talking like a duck in a chokehold.
I put my arms around my chest and leaned against the wall to watch them fight it out.
Suddenly I realized that aura wasn't something that could be built up with money. Although Elias was wearing a waiter's uniform, he made the young guy with designer clothes discouraged with a single look.
"Come with me." Elias grabbed my hand and pulled me away without paying any attention to the other man.
I let him pull me anyway, but I still had to get the upper hand with my mouth and angered him on purpose, "I thought you didn't want to have anything to do with me anymore, so why do you care which man I'm with? It's my own choice."
I had not contacted him these days and he had not come to me either. It was my composure. If it was someone else, she would have been unable to wait.
I said this only to provoke him.
"You have to find the right person." Elias let go of my hand, "He's not a good person."
I laughed, "Are you still a three-year-old kid? The adult world is not black and white. You're so naive."
"I have just seen him the other day. He has just dumped a girl and started seeing another woman. Jacqueline, if you want to be with someone, you have to know how to pick and choose. Don't just take in any garbage."
As I listened to him talking in righteous indignation, the corners of my mouth slowly lifted.
He was anxious.
I pretended to be distressed, "I'm no longer young. My parents are urging me to get married every day and I realize it's time for me to get married. But I am busy with work all the time. How can I spare time to study men properly? Elias, don't you think so?"
I got up on tiptoe to his side. My eyes were a bit blurred because of some wine I had drunk, "I've seen a gentleman and how could I not be happy? After meeting you, all other men will be just fine to me. You don't like me and you won't marry me anyway, so it's none of your business if I be together with a random person, right?"
He looked down at me. I couldn't tell what he was thinking from his eyes.
Seeing that I had almost achieved the effect I wanted, I stepped back and waved my hand, "My friend is still waiting for me in the box and I have to go."
He took me by the wrist.
I turned around.
His lips moved slightly, "Don't drink too much wine."
I laughed, "Are you concerned about me?"
He turned his head away awkwardly, "There are good and bad people mixed up here. Just be careful yourself."
"Good." I nodded my head and didn't talk back.
"I'm leaving." I waved my hand and stepped forward on my high heels without looking back for once. But a woman's sixth sense told me that he was watching me leave.
Oh, he was still innocent.
At 3:00 a.m., Iggy finally stopped playing. She had drunk a lot, but I didn't need to help because there were a whole lot of people taking care of her.
I walked to the door, ready to call a chauffeur, because I didn't want to bother Yancey at this point.
Just as I reached the door of the club, I saw Elias.
He had already changed out of his work uniform into a simple khaki trench coat, which was cheap but looked expensive on him.
"Hey, you just got off work?" I asked knowingly.
He looked at his watch with a long face, "Do you know what time it is now?"
"It's fine. It's only three in the morning." It was nothing at all since I usually worked overtime until dawn.
Elias got even more upset when he heard my words.
"It's fine?" He looked me up and down, "You're no longer young and should not party every night."
I was speechless.
Why did such a beautiful person have a mouth?
My stomach churned at the cold wind blew outside. I felt like throwing up and I was so dizzy that I had no energy to argue with him.
Seeing that I was uncomfortable, Elias finally stopped his tongue-lashing and asked me as he squatted down, "What's wrong?"
"I want to throw up."
I thought he would say, "If you want to throw up, just do it. I'm here."
But I was wrong. He pulled me up and walked me to the trash can, "Throw up here so you won't get the floor dirty."
Gee, he was really a man who didn't understand woman and had no mercy.
I didn't know if it was because I was annoyed with him, but I didn't want to throw up anymore. I leaned on him limply. He was tall and had a broad chest, so I felt safe leaning on him.
He held me steadily, "Where is your car?"
"There, there." I handed him the keys, "You'll know when you hear the beep."
He pulled me to the front of the car and I patted the front hood, "Do you like this car? I'll send it to you if you like it."
"You said it as if you had never given me a car. Have I accepted one?" He satirized me.
"So why don't you want it?" I didn't give up, "Is it because you don't like the model or the color, or that it didn't meet your expectations?"
Elias got me into the passenger seat and strapped me in, ignoring my prattle.
After he got in the car, he asked me, "Address?"
I gave him my address.
He compressed his lips.
After dropping me off at the door, Elias turned to leave. I tugged at the corner of his shirt and he turned to look at me, "I've already driven you home. What else do you want?"
"I'm hungry."
Elias: "..."
"I'll keep pulling you if you don't cook for me and we'll spend time together."
Elias: "..."
"I... feel like throwing up a little."
Elias closed his eyes and took a deep breath as if he was resisting the urge to smack me. After he had made up his mind, he finally nodded his noble head and followed me in the door.
I suddenly realized that as long as I acted shamelessly, he actually fell for it.
I seemed to have acquired a new skill.
Elias asked where the kitchen was and went inside to cook. I took a "stay sober" pill with water and went to take a shower after I had sobered up a bit.
When Elias arrived at the restaurant with the noodles he had cooked, I had already showered and changed, looking at him flirtatiously with my long, half-wet hair down.
However, Elias stared at me for a few seconds and asked, " You got a cramp in your eyes?"
I was speechless.
"The noodles are ready. I have to go now." He was about to leave when I pulled him back.
I clung to his arm, "Elias, I'm drunk. I might fall when I get up during the night and nobody will help me. Aren't you worried?"
His eyes moved and he seemed a little hesitant.
I kept trying, "Elias, stay with me tonight, okay?"
