Chapter 42: The Honey-Trap Worked
Neil later described to me in detail how it happened later on.
On that day, he had invited Serena to his house for a "cup of coffee", and Serena had obviously been interested in him and wanted to have him.
Despite the fear in his heart, Neil had gone ahead with his plan.
Despite the fear in his heart, Neil had gone ahead with his plan.
He had planned to prepare a nice dinner for Serena.
But it had lacked a few spices and Neil had pretended that he had been too busy to get away, so he had asked Serena, with a warm smile, if she could help him borrow some spices from the next-door neighbor.
Serena had agreed.
Next, Neil had not had to do anything but lean on the kitchen door and wait for it.
There had been a loud and furious roar from outside shortly, followed by loud slaps.
Neil said that Serena had been tough enough to give Silvan and Vivian several slaps on their faces, leaving Vivian's small oval face swollen.
Neil also said that Silvan had been so terrified that he could not have said a word, not to mention helping Vivian out.
But Serena was not simple-minded. After her anger had subsided, she would definitely have known that Neil had been sent by someone after thinking about it. But it didn't matter. At least Silvan's cheating was real, and whoever was behind it couldn't erase it.
I gave Neil a sum of money to stay away from trouble for the time being.
Now, I just waited quietly for the news.
Serena was indeed exceptionally vigorous in her actions and I soon learned that Vivian had been shut out by all media. The girl was so foolish that she lost her future for the sake of transient money and fame.
As for Silvan...
It would be fun to bring him down slowly.
Serena probably did not want the scandal of her husband cheating on her and being unfaithful to her to be made public, so she did not announce it to outsiders.
But I knew that Serena could not just let it go.
It was time for me to step in.
If Silvan made mistakes in his own career and was no longer useful, Serena would no longer care about their relationship and would definitely kick him off to the side.
I let Yvette take action.
A few days later, colleagues sent by the company's top executive came to the TR Group headquarters to take Silvan away in the name of "questioning", but everyone understood what was actually going on inside.
The news of Silvan being taken away soon reached everyone's ears.
Of course, Serena was included.
Serena held a press conference at the first opportunity.
Although the final results of the investigation into Silvan's case did not come out, Serena basically sentenced him to death and announced their divorce.
She would definitely get the custody of their child.
I put my arms around my chest and watched Serena talking eloquently on TV, who looked the least bit heartbroken at being betrayed.
"Silvan, you tried to rape me in the name of being nice to me. If it wasn't for the kind person who saved me, I could have become another Vivian.
Thankfully.
Thankfully, you got what was coming to you."
Yvette came into my office with the file and said to me, "Boss, the evidence of Silvan's guilt is basically absolute and he can't get away with it now, not to mention that Serena has already held a press conference to disassociate herself from him. He'll have no chance of a turnaround anymore."
"I'm curious, though, how you happened to see him and Vivian so opportunistically on your business trip with Elias at the time?"
My first thought was that it was a chance encounter.
But when I thought about it, I didn't feel right.
"It was Elias who suggested going to the restaurant."
Yvette pointed out the point, "Boss, maybe it wasn't a coincidence? France is such a big country and there are so many restaurants. How come you met them at the same restaurant?"
I looked at Yvette, "What do you mean by that? Are you trying to tell me that Elias arranged all this?"
Yvette nodded.
"No way." I denied it right off the bat.
"Why is that impossible?"
"Let's not talk about how Elias knew beforehand that Silvan would have brought Vivian to that restaurant; he's just a regular guy, who doesn't have that kind of ability and resources to investigate and arrange things."
"But what if..." Yvette deliberated for a moment, "What if Elias is actually not an ordinary person?"
When she said that, I looked stern, "What do you mean by that?"
"Boss, I've turned the whole city upside down these days and there's no trace of Mr. Silva at all. I've checked all the places I could, but he has disappeared indeed."
"Maybe he's not in this city anymore."
"Not in this city anymore?" I muttered, "Then... where could he have gone?"
I thought Elias was just having a temper tantrum temporarily and would come back in ten days or so.
But I was wrong.
A month passed, and he was still nowhere to be found.
I became so grumpy every day that even Yvette avoided me.
When I woke up this morning, I felt like throwing up and rushed to the bathroom, only to remember that I hadn't had my period for a long time.
I immediately went to the pharmacy and bought a pregnancy test.
When it showed two bars, I had a mixed feeling inside.
I finally got the baby I had been expecting.
But the whereabouts of the baby's father was a mystery.
I went to the hospital to confirm it. The doctor told me that I was pregnant and gave me some medication mostly for preventing miscarriage.
I went back to the office in a daze.
I was really pregnant.
Yvette knocked on the door and came in. Seeing my pale face with a wry smile, she cautiously said, "Boss, there is still no news from Mr. Silva. What happened to you? You look so pale."
I raised my eyes and looked at her, "Yvette, I'm pregnant."
"Huh?" Yvette froze for a moment and quickly congratulated me, "Boss, that's great."
"Great?" I smiled bitterly, "Elias doesn't want me or this baby anymore."
In my ninth month of pregnancy, my parents finally found out about it all.
They arrived at my house with the luggage and were angry and heartbroken when they saw me heavily pregnant, "Are you going to piss me and your father off? You didn't say a word about what happened and you even lied and hid it from us."
I was helpless, "Did Yvette tell you about this?"
"Yvette did it for your own good. You're really going to piss me off." My mom scolded me as she cried.
It was hard for me to see her like this.
I was almost thirty years old yet I still made my parents worry so much about me.
"Don't blame our daughter. She's pregnant and you've been so worried about her. Jackie, what do you want to eat? I'll make you a meal right away."
I choked with sobs, "I would like the garlic ribs you make."
"Okay, how about your favorite beef stew?"
"Hurry up and cook. I'll help you. Don't starve our daughter and baby grandchild."
I sat on the couch and gently caressed my stomach as I watched my parents busy cooking in the kitchen.
