Chapter 101

It's already a week's time and they were all present in the court, it was Mr Smith's turn to go through the trials and Arianna, Aurora and Paul were nervous. "Do you think he will be freed?" Paul asked no one in particular. Arianna reassured him that everything was going to be alright again. The judge was reading the police report which stated that there was a malpractice in the result of the first DNA test. The judge pronounced Mr Smith to be free and acquitted from the charges that were charged against him and he was free to go. This earned a huge cheer from everyone seated in the court room. The clerk called order to the court, and everyone kept quiet. The judge stood up and left the Court room which made them stand up from their seats and ran to Mr Smith. Paul quickly hugged him because he missed his dad so much. The next case to be judge was that of Mr Peterson and the state. Mr Peterson was brought in with handcuffs around his hands. Everyone was murmuring and pointing hands at him and giving him disgusting sneers. The Clerk stood up and beaconed on the court to arise, since the judge that will be judging the case was coming in. The judge took his seata d everyone followed suit. The judge read out the charges against Mr Peterson and it was for the murder of seven people and the attempted murder of a police officer also handling of illegal weapons. "How do you plead?", The judge asked the defendant. "Not guilty your honour", The defendant's lawyer answered. "What does the plaintiff have to say?".The judge asked. "I would like to tender some evidences that was brought to light about a few days ago".The lawyer assigned by the State said, going towards the clerk. "Evidence brought to light shows he has killed a number of seven people in two years". The lawyer said. "It has been found that he was the only person that has the record of all their deaths, the time and the way they died because he kept a diary which we found in his locker" The Lawyer continued. "And the evidence that led him straight to us was he left his DNA always on the site because he would never be a suspect until the he showed up with forged DNA results and kept it in the safe to be found,so he can claim rights to his friend's child". The lawyer claimed. This made Mr Peterson's lawyer objected that how could he prove that he was the one who forged those results, that brought about the video from the hidden cameras installed by the victim that was not included in the blueprint of the house. The video further showed that Mr Peterson here murdered the victims in cold blood. And here are further evidences that shows the forged papers he brought so he can get full guidance of the victim's daughter. The lawyer was still stating the evidences when Mr Peterson stood up and shouted at the lawyer that he had ever right to do that because they took everything from him, and they thought they could go free but he has no regrets because he has killed them all. He said laughing maliciously. This made the judge take over and began reading his sentence to him. "Is this really the end of this?" Paul asked. "Yes this will take this horrible nightmare away from our lives". Aurora said squeezing both Paul and Arianna's hands. It was time for the judge to give the verdict and everyone was quite because everyone was paying attention to the judge not wanting to miss anything he said. The judge started the verdict and he began reading out to the people in the court room. By the power vested in me by the State I hereby sentence you to life imprisonment with hard labour, this will serve as a lesson to others not to think lightly of the law. The court rose and left the room, leaving the police and prison officers to continue their jobs. Arianna went outside hand in hand with Aurora and Paul. Mr Smith hugged and thanked them for their efforts in freeing him. Paul went home with his Dad clearly missing him because he was the only parent he had. Arianna looked lost because it all dawned on her that she might get lonely since their investigation was over, but Aurora dragged her away from her reverie and told her she has been planning a trip just for the two of them. Later that evening, everyone was seated at the dinning table in the Smith's house having a sumpous dinner if roasted lamb chops, potatoes, sweet smelling jasmine rice,steamed vegetables, steak, and salmon. They were an assortment of drinks on the table, some champagne, red wine and fruit juice. On the dessert table they were different flavors of cakes, scones, muffins, stuffed buns, some ice- cream and coffee. Present on the table was the police officer, Arianna, lan, Brendan, Aurora, Paul, Ceaser, Damian, Britney and the host Mr Smith. Everyone was in a very happy mode because all the trials are gone. They were eating and playing, they were also games. They was a clanking of spoon against the champagne cup which brought everyone's attention to the person who did that. It was Mr Smith and he was smiling from ear to ear, he dropped his fork before clearing his throat obviously he wanted to give a speech and then he thanked everybody for their assistance and having faith he was going to scale through. He also said that he was adopting Arianna into his family, since herself and Paul were very close and are good friends. The police officer came to Mr Smith and whispered something into his ears before leaving. Mr Smith continued and said it was with deep regrets thihe is announcing the death of Mr Peterson. He died while trying to escape and he took a bullet to the head. Mr Smith told them to continue partying that they shouldn't let anything dampen their mood. Britney and Damian came and informed everyone of their plans to get married. Everyone congratulated them and wished them success. The three friends including lan went to the window and were looking at the night sky and they all felt a heavyweight lifted up their shoulders. .
