Chapter EIGHTY ONE.
Mr Smith's first trial is in five hours time and yet the trio and Ian are yet to find a clue, anything at all to get him set free.
" We have been searching for days non stop. I doubt that we can ever get anything to save my Father in time." Paul says, his soul feeling down.
" Don't say that, Paul. We will figure something out, I promise." Aurora assures and wrap her arms around him. " Things will be fine." She whispers against his shirt.
" Is there any other room in this house, Ari?." Ian asks.
" Hummm. I don't think so." She replies then suddenly it clicks. " Oh wait!." She exclaims.
" What, Ari?." Aurora looks up and ask.
" We are yet to check my Dad's old office. Aunt Fiona said he used to work there when he was alive but it has been so long since it has been cleared so it's so dusty now." She explains.
" We should go check it out." Ian suggests.
" You guys can go on. I and Paul will come soon." Aurora says.
" Okay." Ian responds and picks his bag, crossing it over his shoulder.
" It's the fifth room on the third floor." Arianna informs before they walk out of the room.
" You good?." Aurora asks and lifts his chin up a bit to stare straight at him.
Paul looks down, his eyes glued to her.
" I'm trying to be, it's just that the realisation that I might never see him again hits so hard." He responds.
" I believe we have this under control, Paul. We will get him out. We got this." Aurora assures.
" I hope so, Aurora. I really do." He replies, his voice unusually low. " I went to pay him a visit days ago and I just couldn't stand seeing him like that. I had an heart to heart conversation with him and he told me he is innocent. My Father is innocent, Aurora and I can feel it in my guts. Mom barely stays home now. It's either she is at the council trying to see him or out there looking to lawyers, good ones to help us win the case. It tears me apart to watch us fall apart this way, just few days from my supposed 'big day'." He narrates and a tear finds its way down hiseft cheek.
Aurora wipes it midway with her thumb and cups his face in her palms.
" We will get him out, okay. That I promise." She replies even though she has no idea on how to do that but it tears her apart to see him this way, to see him sad.
Paul nods gently and stare into her eyes as she did to his. The whole world coming to a still andit feels like only them exists.
He leans forward and claims her mouth with his, stealing a brief kiss. Her eyes shining as she had never expected it.
" I'm sorry." He apologies the moment he pulls back.
" We should go join the others." She replies and stands quickly on her feet. Paul do the same and they walk out of the room like strangers.
They soon catch up with the others and find out where they are. Aurora let's out a cough as she steps into the very dusty room.
" This is old." She tries to say politely, instead of saying " It's too dusty or it's unbearable I here."
" Yea. How do we intend to find any evidence here?." Paul questions, his eyes surveying the very dusty room.
Ian shrugs.
" We search." He responds and starts to flip the files on the table over. The colors of the papers changing colours
" I doubt that we will get anything out from this." Paul chirps in.
" For a dude that has his Dad stuck in prison, you do have an unhealthy amount of negative mindset." Ian snaps.
" I am not negative minded. I am just smart enough to know some things are absolutely waste of time." Paul snaps back at him, angry that he likes Aurora.
" For someone we are doing such a great favour, you are an ungrateful dickhead." Ian retorts and Paul scoffs.
" Not as stupid as you are thinking all this is some sort of crime movie with some mystery waiting to be solved. Wake up guy, this is reality. Stop thinking and acting like some character straight from the book." Paul retaliates.
" You both should stop that. We are all grown ups so we should be able to sort our differences out withoutany harsh word, okay." Aurora says.
" You should tell that to your dickhead who acts like the whole world revolves around him." Paul insults.
Ian scoffs and pace up and down a bit before launching forward and landing a blow on his jaw. Paul retaliates too and throw him a punch in the stomach. The girls try to step in between them but all to no avail.
" Asshole." Paul says and grins.
" No you didn't." Ian screams and throws him a more heavy punch, throwing him across the room to land on the shelf of books there.
" Biys! Boys! Behave yourself." Aurora cautions.
" You tell him that. Weakling." Paul screams out.
" Careful Paul. It's enough." Aurora cautions.
Paul scoffs.
It has to be it. He has to be the reason Aurora doesn't like him. It has to be because she likes Ian instead.
" Yes, Ian. Run behind your mama just like you always do." He insults and Ian feels his blood boil, his anger heighten.
No body messed with his Mother and goes scot free.
" That's it." Ian says and stomps over to Paul, picking him up and slamming him into the shelf.
" Guys, you need to see this." Arianna says, her eyes glued to the shock before her.
They all turn around to experience the shock of their life.
