Chapter SEVENTY FIVE.
The bell rings loud and they all dispatch into their various classrooms, settling into their chairs.
' He didn't come again today." Ian says, turning around to look at Aurora and Arianna sitting two seats behind him.
' Who?." Aurora asks.
' Young Smith." He responds, his eyes resting on the vacant seat in the middle of the three.
' Humm…he is unwell, I guess." Arianna responds quickly and averts his eyes to look at her not too new sandals. After what he had told her that day, she just couldn't bring herself to act like all is well.
' It's fine Arianna. Ian is one of us so you can tell him." Aurora assures.
' I…ummm…I…I think he…ummm….Father…" Arianna stammers.
Ian stretches his hand forward to pat her shoulder slightly.
' It's fine. You don't have to tell me if you are not ready." He says and watch her wipe a few drop of tears from her cheeks.
' The Counc….I mean the police called…I mean um contacted them couple of weeks ago. Mr Smith has been accused of killing my parents." Arianna explains, trying to not let the hurt in her show. The thought of the possibility that her parents had really died in the hands of the Father of her best friend breaks her heart so deeply.
' Oh my!. That must have been so tragic to hear. How is he feeling now? How are you feeling too?. Have you guys had any sort of serious conversation since then?." Ian asks worriedly.
' He is fine, I guess and no we are yet to have any serious discussion. I don't know what to say to him. We are talking about my parents here, Ian. It isn't that easy to just overlook." Arianna replies sadly.
' I understand Arianna. Do you think he is capable of that, killing them I mean?." Ian asks.
' I don't know Ian. I just don't know what to believe." Arianna replies and gets up swiftly on her feet, running off before they can stop her.
Ian attempts to run after her but Aurora pulls him back gently.
' Leave her be, Ian. She is just hurt and it's normal." Aurora says, sadness evident in her voice.
' But we need to go after her, we need to make sure she is fine." He responds, concerned.
' She will be fine, Ian. She just needs her private time." Aurora assures and closed her eyes briefly before pulling it open again.
Ian heaved a sigh and settles on the seat beside Aurora, the one Arianna just got up from.
' Does her aunt know of it? Who filled the case and who reported?." Ian asks curiously, his detective instinct sprinting up.
' No. Aunt Fiona said she knows nothing about filling the case and was just hearing of it when we called. She says she will try her best to bring the case down although they insist that Justice must be brought to light and everything in order." Aurora explains.
' Who are they?." He questions.
Aurora tells a minute to promise if she is to tell him that they are vampires and they have a council that rules the Darkworld.
How will that ever sound to him?.
She wonders.
' Just a couple of people we know." She lies.
' Like family?." He asks.
' Something of that sort." She replies. This isn't a lie after all, the council is more like a family but not just their family. That's if that makes since to anyone.
' I don't know what to do. It feels like I am about to lose my two best friends and it's like we are drifting so largely apart but I can do nothing but expect that things fall into place. But what if, Ian?. What if Paul's father really is responsible for the murders?. Does that mean I will lose both of them or one of them?. Does that mean that we will never get to hang out as one or go to same college as promised?. It just feels like I am losing my family instead and not just my friends and I can't do anything about it than to just watch." Aurora pours out, her voice breaking, her throat hurting with tears finding its way down her face.
Ian pulls her close a bit, his masculine arms wrapped around her for protection.
' Everything will be fine, Aurora. It will be." He replies assuredly but deep down he wonders if things really will be fine. He knows that things like this will change everything.
' I hope so." Aurora responds and wraps her arms around his back, taking in his scent as she did.
Ian runs his right palm over her head in a bid to pet her. Then it strikes his mind, a very good idea.
' What about we do it ourselves." He says boldly.
Aurora pulls her head away from his chest and tilt her face up to look at him.
' Do what ourselves?. What are you talking about?." She asks.
A smile curls up Ian's face. He had always wanted to do this and now he was glad he found a right time to.
He leans forward and whispers some words into her left ear, taking in the sweet scent of her shampoo as he did. He is tempted to touch her hair and let it roll through his fingers but he withholds the urge. He watches her eyes widen as he explains and his stomach tighten from the excitement.
By the time he is done.
' Okay." She replies.
