Chapter 19
'When I was at the river, the other day, when I closed my eyes, I saw a man. He looked exceptional like nothing I have ever seen. Who was he?" I asked the wizard.
'He is the one made for you." He paused and continued. 'That's all the moon goddess wants you to know." He nodded feeling satisfied that he delivered his news.
I was sad and disappointed. This wasn't what I expected at all.
'What next move should I take in order to find my father's clan?"
'I have already given you all the information you should know. It's totally up to you to decide what you want to do or how you want to go about it." He answered me.
How was I going to find this man in my imagination? According to Geston, he is the one made for me and I must find him to be able to reach my full potential in my search to discover my full identity.
'Can I know his name?" I asked.
'That's all you need to know." He stated, not saying anything further.
I believe he was trying to dismiss me when he told me that. I wanted to know so much but he was telling me so little and so I had to make do with it.
'You have so much power in you that you need to discover." He gazed at me. 'You need to harness the power in you and do not let your fear take that away from you."
I listened carefully as he spoke in parables. I had powers? I wondered? When did I have powers? Powers that I wasn't aware of.
I stood up to take my leave. 'Thank you, wise one." I greeted him and left. My walk back to the clan was better than my coming. I was very exhausted when I got to the clan that I had to visit Laura to find out if she had made food.
'Where have you been?" She asked me when she had already served me. 'I came looking for you today."
'I went for some personal training in the forest." I lied, hoping she wouldn't find out.
'Oh." She stared for some minutes, then smiled. 'I thought as much too but I didn't see you there too." She answered, waiting patiently for my response.
'I must have left when you came." I answered, refusing to give in. She mustn't know anything about my quest even though she was the closest person I had as a friend here.
'Ok." She responded. 'I'm going to let you make the decision to share when you're ready." She told me and went back to what she was doing.
I bent my head in shame. I felt I was being unfair to Laura because she had shared a lot about her personal life with me but I still hadn't said anything to her. The fact that she was willing to wait till I can trust her melted my heart.
'We have a training today. Let's go today." Laura urged me.
I always loved the training we had at Stormclaw. When I was still at the Palace, they never let me touch a weapon or even learn how to fight. They would always go with the motion 'Princesses don't fight."
I could remember when I was eight, my father taught me everything I currently know about fighting and defending myself especially when I was in danger. As I grew up, I still remembered the lessons but I stopped practicing so I forgot almost everything.
Trainings always reminded me of my father. I didn't have a picture of him and the picture I had in my mind of him was becoming blurred as the days passed by.
'Okay." I responded and followed her out.
Mascot was already at the training ground with others.
'You made it?" He asked us as we approached him but specifically looking at me. 'How was your night?"
'We slept well." I answered for the both of us while Laura proceeded to go hug him.
'How are you doing, my love?" She asked him.
'I'm doing well." He returned her hug coldly.
Most times, I wondered if Mascot was Laura's mate, actually or if they were playing about this. The tension between them was something that should be questioned. Mascot helped us to our corner where we trained to night fall.
We were all exhausted but we had to attend the festival of fire holding at the King's Chambers for every member. I had gone back to my chambers to get prepared while Laura had done the same. We had planned to go together after taking our bath and eating.
I heard a soft knock on the door and I knew immediately that it was Mascot. He would always knock in a quiet soft way that made me smile.
'Mascot?"
'Are you ready for the festival? It's happening at the King's chambers." He responded with a smile which I taught wasn't necessary.
'Thank you for the reminder. I appreciate." I told him.
'I got you something." He handed the peice of thick clothing to me. I could feel his nervousness even from where I stood.
'What's this? I asked, stretching out my hands to receive it. I opened slowly, excited to receive a gift even in this strange land where I was. 'It's a coat!" I exclaimed.
'Do you like it? During the festival of fire, there's so much cold, since the weather changes during that period, so I thought of getting something like this for you since you don't have any." He seemed very satisfied with himself.
'I really like it. I do." I smiled genuinely, trying it on. 'Did you also get for Laura?"
I don't know if it was me but his countenance changed immediately. Did I say something wrong?
'She already has one." He answered. 'I'll see you at the festival." He turned, about to go but stopped. 'Can you not tell Laura that I got that for you?" He asked politely.
'Ok. I won't." I nodded as I replied.
I watched him leave and I prayed that whatever happened, they would get over it together.
