Chapter 25
'How about you?" I asked him sharply before he could think of another question to ask me.
'Well, I was born and brought up here. I'm a hunter too." He said and I became glad. He could teach me how to hunt too.
'You could teach me." I responded and he didn't say a word.
'I have to go." He announced.
'Now? So soon?" I couldn't let him hear how desperate I was for him to stay.
'Yes, I guess we'll be seeing each other." He responded, winked at me and left.
'Thanks for the orange juice." I screamed after him.
'You're welcome." He screamed back. It was like those times in the movie when a woman would fall in love with a man. It was like a fairytale and I loved it.
'I knew you would be here."
I turned sharply to see Laura standing behind me with her hands akimbo.
'You found me." I laughed, though unhappy that she did.
'Yes. I did." She sat beside me exactly at the same spot, Thorne had sat. 'You weren't in your room and whenever you aren't in your room, I know you are here."
'I'm I really that addicted to this place?"
'Not addicted, you just love this place so much." She responded.
'You want some? We could go buy." I said but she shook her head, indicating no.
'How are you?" I asked since there was nothing more to say.
'I'm okay." She paused. 'Who was that?"
I stare at her for a minute trying to know if she was talking about the same person I had in mind.
I giggled as I took more orange juice.
'What? I want to hear everything. Tell me." Laura was getting impatient so I spilled everything.
'If you remember the day we went to the pack, I think I saw my mate when I shut my eyes."
'You did?"
'Yes. Guess what?"
'He is exactly like the man I met here."
'Wait." She stopped talking like she was comprehending what I had said. 'You met him?"
'Yes."
'Tell me about it. I'm so excited for you." She was indeed excited for me.
'Well, I met him today. I could track his scent from afar. That was how I picked him out of the crowd here."
'So what now?"
'What do you mean?"
'Are you getting married? Is he your boyfriend? I need details." Laura asked me, literally jumping on her seat.
'We just met today." I laughed.
'It doesn't really matter. People get married after a day of meeting each other." Laura was clearly exaggerating.
'Well, that wouldn't be me." I responded.
There was a quick moment of silence as we enjoyed the cool breeze slapping pleasantly on our faces.
'Something is wrong going with Mascot." Laura suddenly blurted out. I could see that her mood had changed when I looked at her.
'What do you mean?" Why do you think that?" I asked.
'He's becoming different. He doesn't even want to have long discussions with me, anymore. He's always on his own. I don't know what I can make out of this." She said, quietly.
She was trying not to sound weak.
'I thought I could handle him but I don't think I can anymore. He doesn't even give want to give us a chance anymore." A tear escaped Laura's eyes.
'Mascot is a nice guy." That was the only thing I could say. I had noticed the change in Mascot too but I had thought that was the way he was made… unromantic.
'He is a nice guy but he isn't nice to me." Laura complained. 'He doesn't want to talk to me. I just feel it in my bones that something is wrong somewhere. He doesn't act like this."
I watched Laura as she told me everything. I wished I could help her but there was nothing a mere wolf like me could do to settle a situation like this.
'I'll talk to him, if you want me to." I comforted her. 'I won't say that you told me anything though. I'll just speak to him, casually. He won't know a thing."
'I don't think you should do that." Laura sniffed. 'He personally doesn't like people meddling in his personal life. He would simply get more upset with me and not talk to me for days." She explained.
I understood what she was pointing out at but I knew I was going to speak to Mascot. I felt guilty in a way. Mascot might be behaving so strangely because of me. He had been following me and even hiding my hands.
'No, no." I stop myself from having such thoughts. I chose to believe that Mascot was going through something so he wanted to be left alone. That was all I could believe.
I let Laura use my shoulder as a pillow as I comforted her.
'Everything would be okay. He's just going through a phase right now. I'm telling you, he'll be fine and back to his normal self soon."
'He told me that you guys went for hunting and didn't catch anything." Laura sniffed again.
'Yes. We didn't. It was so exhausting." I responded, trying to go ahead with the lie I started.
'I'm just glad that he is still doing something that he truly loves." Laura smiled. 'We actually met at a hunting ground. I just knew that he was mine, you know that feeling right?" She asked me, he head still on my shoulder.
Did I know that feeling? Was it what I felt when I met Thorne. Was he actually my mate? Or was this all a fantasy that would never come to pass?
'Don't worry." Laura responded when I didn't say anything. 'You'll get to experience that and I bet you, it would be your best experience, ever."
At the moment as I stared at the ocean, I knew my best experience would be to finally find out who my father's killer was and to find his inheritance. That would be the best experience, ever.
