Chapter 93
The Palace was lavishly designed in a very inexpensive way making it look unique and beautiful in its own way. I loved the Palace, it was small but yet very nice for a family.
When we entered the throne room, we had expected to see a small Aloha on the throne since the pack on its own was so small but we were disappointed. A huge man met and greeted us.
He asked us to sit down and introduced himself.
'My name is Alpha Axel and I'm the Alpha of Moonlight pack. I heard you send greetings from my old friend, Magnus. How is he and his clan?" The Alpha asked, surprising us with his hospitality.
I hadn't expected that a huge man like this still had it in him to be nice to his strangers but he proved me wrong. The hair on his head was gray which made him look much older than he actually is.
'You're welcome. We don't accept strangers but you are an exception because you came highly recommended by my friend, Magnus."
I didn't expect anything further from this king but he went ahead to offer us a hot meal so we were cold. I don't know if I have ever been more grateful to anyone for giving me hot food than I am now.
We shouldn't be accepting food from them but we were cold and he was trying to be of help to us, why should we refuse him? He was a good friend 9f Alpha-king Magnus so we should trust him, no matter what.
As we ate our hot meal which was served to us on the dining table, we couldn't say anymore to anybody, we only communicated with our eyes. Damein handed the letter to the Alpha and hoped he would read it properly and give us a listening ear.
'Can you help us?" Damien asked, after handing the letter to the Alpha. He had not said anything for the past seconds, he only looked up and down in deep thought.
'This is going to be a hard one. You know that my pack is a small one and we do not have so many warriors to give out."
We bowed our heads in disappointment because that was what we expected at the moment.
'I'm going to think about it and give you guys my response by tomorrow, for now, you need to rest." He said. 'My aide will help and lead you to the place for your rest tonight." He left the throne room with the letter.
I would have preferred if he had told us that he couldn't help so we could leave the clan immediately and not wait for the next day but we had to obey since we still had a chance.
We were taken to a quarter in the Palace which I couldn't have ever guessed existed because of how small the Palace was. The Quarter just like everywhere in the Palace was lavished with intricate decorations. The walls were adorned by beautiful paintings of nature which brought out the beauty in the Palace.
The chairs and tables were arranged the perfect way that I would want. It was exactly the way I wanted. There were four beds in this large room and I reasoned that the king turned this Place to a place for visitors.
It was kind of him to accept us and make us feel comfortable but my major concern was for him to agree. I must have not been looking too good for Damien to ask me to not worry.
He must have been observing how worried and anxious I looked and came to sit by me.
'Don't look like that. If he doesn't let us, we will try other Alphas, that I'm sure of."
'We need all the support we can get. I would love to get the support of every single Aloha on the list, this way it would make it easier for us to win this fight."
'I understand you. All I'm saying is that worrying would not make anything better."
'True." I nodded and just then Laura left the room to go get something from the Palace which I think she had forgotten."
'What's up with you and Laura?" Damien asked and I pretended not to know what he was speaking about. I looked away and started unpacking my bags in search of clothes to wear for the night.
'My supplies are totally drained and I need to dry my clothes." I said, totally unrelated.
'Yes, me too. It's important. We need to find a place to do it tonight." Damien agreed with still sitting on my bed, staring closely at me and still waiting for an answer.
I just couldn't pretend that I wasn't seeing how his gaze was penetrating through my soul.
'What's the matter? Why are you staring?"
'I asked a question and I would love to get an answer as soon as I can." He said, not giving up on his stare at me.
'There's nothing going on between us." I was forced to burst out in laughter but when I looked at Damien, he wasn't even smiling at me.
'You need to put an end to this. I've noticed so many times how she has tried to make it up to you but you always push her away."
'Well, it's not my fault that she betrayed me. There's nothing I could do about it. It's hard to trust someone who you had so much faith in but who went ahead without thinking twice to betray you. I'm sure you must have had the experience once, if not, I guess you wouldn't understand how it feels."
'She's trying to prove herself. She could have chosen not to come on this trip with you but she did, doesn't that show you that she's sorry about everything and had come to stay?"
'Did she put you up to this?" I asked Damien.
'No, she didn't. Infact, I had told her many times that I would personally speak to you but she had refused to say anything to you, afraid that you might get upset and her efforts would be in vain. Why don't you talk to her, give her a chance to explain, then you can make your decision about her. This is quite unfair judging from the fact that you didn't give her a listening ear."
When Damien had left to his own side of the bed, tears welled up in my eyes. Why does everyone make it look like I was the one at fault when it wasn't me? I was the loyal friend and she, the traitor.
