Chapter 99
'Why do you look so excited?" Damien asked me and Laura laughed, thinking exactly the same way I was.
'I have heard you admit that you are a friend to someone, that's why?" I said.
'Well." He nodded, having nothing more to say.
'Are the horses safe?"
'Yes, I fed them and I'm sure they're safe."
'What a very rough day for us." Laura exclaimed, thankful that we came out of the problem with no issue at all. 'Imagine they had taken everything from us?"
'Thanks to the moon goddess, I don't know what we would have done without her." Damien replied.
We were filled with joy and excitement that no one asked for food or was hungry either. The next morning we didn't have much to do as we packed up to leave the location.
We left as early as possible so we could meet up but on our way, I could see Laura's troubled face. She looked horrible and I couldn't help but ask her.
'What's wrong?"
'Nothing. I'm fine." She said her face not looking like her usual vibrant self.
'What's really wrong? Don't tell me you're hiding things from me." I told her and she turned to me, sharply.
'Not really. It's about our conversation last night."
'What about it? Did I trigger any emotions but asking?" I asked her in shock, hopingbshe would say no. It was still quite early and the sun wasn't quite up and shining and I was grateful for that. The breeze was gentle as we kept walking at a slow pace.
'I had a bad dream and that made me really upset." She answered.
'A nightmare? Tell me about it?"
'Not really a nightmare. I could see my parent's face clearly and in that dream we were very happy and excited about everything. We were living the life being happy and.." Laura was about to burst out in tears.
I could understand how she felt. It had been a long time I had felt like dad especially when I had lost my Dad. The questions I had asked her last night had triggered everything and made her dream about her parents and now she was sad.
'I feel bad for making you talk about them?" I said but she looked up to me and I could see her helpless eyes staring at me.
'Don't talk like that, okay. I'm glad we talked about them. I have been trying so long to forget them but I couldn't. I'm grateful you helped me remember how important they are in my life." She took a deep breathe and then said to me. 'I have decided to look for them.
'You have?"
'Yes. I have to find them. Even if they aren't alive, I'll forever be grateful that at least I made an effort to look for them."
'I have an idea. We could actually look for them as we go about in search of support." I suggested. 'Do you know their names atleast."
'What plot are you girls making?" Damien asked when he found out how slowly we were walking and how he was bring left out in the conversation. He had gone to pock the horses earlier and was now way too ahead of us that he had to stop and ask what was getting us all engrossed.
I was unsure if Laura wanted Damien to know about what we were discussing so I didn't say a word but waited for her to take the lead which she did.
'Well, I'm talking about my parents. Naomi has promised to help me."
'I'll also help look for them. You guys need a man to protect you from danger like me." Damien was too proud of himself as he praised himself even in this situation. We laughed as he turned around so we could get a closer look at him.
'You know about her parents?" I was surprised that he offered to help without asking so much questions like I had expected.
'Well, I overheard you both talking last night without me." Damien said. 'So rude."
Damien was becoming softer and softer towards us. I could remember the first day I spoke to him, he almost had my sound coming our of my chest as he stared just because I asked for his help. He had been so aggressive and wouldn't care if anyone had got hurt but now he looked out for us.
'Thank you, Damien." Laura said. 'You're so charming?"
'Charming." Damien asked, as we continued walking, him dragging the horses behind. 'Charming isn't a word to describe me." He said again and I smiled at Laura.
'He thinks that he is superman." I said and Damien looked at me.
'I am superman or haven't you noticed that I have been the one saving you guys from problems for a long time now? When those thieves attack who was it that came to your rescue?"
I just enjoyed listening to Damien rant about how good he was and how he had saved us.
'Well, I didn't know you were batman. I would have married you." I said outloud, expecting everyone to burst out in laughter but Damien didn't even smile. It seemed like marriage wasn't a topic he loved talking about.
'That's so true." Laura agreed with me, then turned to find Damien silent. 'Why are you so silent or you don't want to get married?"
I almost regretted that I had brought up the topic when I saw the look on his face.
'I don't do love." He said with no other utterances.
'Why?" I and Luara was quick to ask her.
'I don't believe in love." He said with so much seriousness. It made me wonder if he had ever had a girlfriend or even a family that had loved him. His sister, seemed like a nice woman who was showed lots of love when growing up. She had served me food that day even when she didn't really like me, it said so much about how kind and humble she was.
Looking at Damien deny love made me wonder if he had gone through any type of trauma or something that he didn't want to talk about. Who didn't believe in love? Or did he have the experience I had with Thorne. Anyone that has ever been betrayed by people who claimed they loved them wouldn't believe in love.
Just like Thorne had left me wondering if I had made a mistake to trust him andovr him, too. I think someone had made Damien deny and hate love so much.
Maybe Damien was like me, after all.
