Chapter 158: A Perfect Day.
HELENA.
We visited two other places after the library. Lunaville was fascinating, much more than I had thought it to be. It was like something straight out of the imagination of a ten year old.
Our third stop was the Riverfront, a serene spot where the river flowed its way through the town. The water sparkled under the afternoon sun, and Aaron shared that the river was considered a sacred place, often visited for reflection and ceremonies. It was peaceful, and I could see why it was a favorite among the people.
As we walked along the riverbank, I admired the way the sunlight danced on the water. It felt so tranquil here, a perfect contrast to the bustling energy of the plaza.
Aaron and I stopped to sit on a bench overlooking the river. I took a deep breath, enjoying the fresh air. The sounds of the river flowing and birds chirping created a peaceful background.
"This place is really something," I said, looking around. "It feels so…calming."
Aaron smiled and nodded. "Yeah, it's one of my favorite spots. It's nice to come here when you need a break from everything. Helps you cool off."
Just then, I noticed a wolf approaching us from a distance. He was tall, with an air of confidence that seemed almost too smooth. His eyes landed on me, and he gave a bold smile as he walked closer.
As he drew near, I saw him glance around before his eyes fell on Aaron. His smile faltered momentarily, and he took a step back, his expression shifting to one of nervousness.
'Alpha Aaron!" he said, his voice suddenly flustered. 'I didn't see you there!"
Aaron's posture stiffened slightly, but he quickly recovered, a hint of irritation in his eyes. I could feel the tension rising beside me.
The wolf, apparently named Damien, seemed to regain his composure as he focused on me. 'Hey there," he said, flashing what he probably thought was a charming smile. 'I didn't expect to meet someone as beautiful as you here. I'm Damien. Mind if I join you for a moment?"
I glanced at Aaron, whose grip on the bench tightened. Without missing a beat, Aaron's hands wrapped around my waist, pulling me gently closer to him. His touch was warm and protective, sending a clear message that I was with him. It also send a million tiny fires dancing on my skin, but hey, I had to stay calm.
I raised an eyebrow at Damien, trying to mask my amusement. Clearly he didn't realize. 'Damien, this is Aaron. He's… well, he's with me."
Damien's face reddened slightly as he registered Aaron's protective gesture. His confident demeanor cracked as he stammered, 'Oh, um, right. I didn't realize—"
Aaron's grip around my waist remained firm, and his voice was steady but edged with annoyance. 'Helena and I were having a quiet moment. I'd appreciate it if you gave us some space."
Damien's gaze flicked between Aaron and me, his smile now completely gone. He gave a hasty nod, his cheeks flushing with embarrassment. 'Of course. Sorry for the interruption. I'll, uh, see you around."
As Damien hurriedly walked away, I couldn't help but chuckle. Aaron's protective side was endearing, even if it was a bit over-the-top.
Turning to Aaron, I teased, 'You really scared him off. Didn't know you had that in you."
Aaron's serious expression softened as he looked at me, though there was still a hint of irritation in his eyes. 'He was being too forward. I didn't like him hitting on you like that. I wouldn't even like anyone hitting on you." He frowned.
I laughed, feeling both amused and touched by his reaction. 'Well, it's good to know you've got my back."
Aaron's tension eased, and he gave a small smile. 'I just wanted to make sure you were comfortable."
We continued our walk along the riverfront, enjoying the peaceful setting and each other's company.
We finished up our visit to the riverfront, and Aaron suggested heading to our last stop. I was excited to see what else Lunaville had to offer.
Finally, we arrived at the Elder's Circle, a large stone circle perched on a hill overlooking the town. This was the most powerful place we had visited, and I could feel its significance as soon as we stepped inside the circle.
The stones were massive and weathered, each one etched with symbols and runes that I couldn't decipher. They formed a perfect circle, with a few larger stones in the center. The view from the hill was breathtaking, giving us a sweeping look at the entire town of Lunaville, bathed in the soft glow of the setting sun.
As we approached, Aaron seemed to take a deep breath, as if he was drawing strength from the place. He glanced at me, his eyes serious but warm. 'This is the Elder's Circle. It's where the elders gather to make important decisions and perform ancient rituals. The power here is… well, a lot."
I looked around, feeling the quiet hum of energy in the air. The stones seemed almost alive, resonating with a deep, primal force. It was awe-inspiring, and I could see why it held such significance for the elders.
'It's incredible," I said, my voice hushed as if speaking too loudly might disrupt the ancient energy around us. 'I've never seen anything like this before. It feels so… powerful."
Aaron smiled, his eyes softening as he looked at me. 'Yeah, it's one of the most important places in Lunaville. It's where we connect with our ancestors and seek guidance. A lot of history and tradition are tied to this place."
I glanced at the stones, feeling a mix of admiration and curiosity. 'Have you ever participated in a ritual here?"
Aaron nodded, his expression thoughtful. 'A few times. It's always a humbling experience. The elders take their roles very seriously, and being here makes you appreciate the weight of their decisions."
As we stood together, the evening air grew cooler, and the sky darkened to a deep shade of blue. The stones seemed to glow softly in the twilight, adding to the magical atmosphere of the place.
Aaron's gaze shifted to me, and he took a step closer, his voice dropping to a softer tone. 'You know, Helena, this place is about more than just tradition. It's about the connection we have with our past and the strength we draw from it. It reminds us of who we are and what we stand for."
I looked up at him, feeling a rush of warmth from his words. 'It's beautiful, Aaron. Thank you for showing me all of this. I'm really glad I got to experience it with you."
He smiled, his eyes reflecting the gentle light of the evening. 'I'm glad you're here with me, too. I wanted you to see these places, to understand more about Lunaville and that it's not as bad as it looks."
There was a moment of silence between us, filled with the soft rustling of the wind and the distant sounds of the town below. I couldn't help but feel grateful for this day.
As we prepared to leave the Elder's Circle, Aaron reached out and gently took my hand. His touch was warm and reassuring, and I felt a flutter of excitement at the gesture.
Throughout the tour, I noticed the occasional glance from passersby, wolves going about their day in Lunaville. Some looked curious, others wary. At first, their gazes made me uneasy. I felt like an outsider, exposed and unsure. Their eyes followed us, and I couldn't help but feel self-conscious, especially given that I was trying to blend in as a werewolf myself.
But as I looked up at Aaron, his presence beside me had an immediate calming effect. His relaxed demeanor and confident stride made me feel like I was part of something bigger, something secure. I could see how much he was respected here, and that respect seemed to extend to me simply by virtue of being with him.
Hehe.
