Chapter 97: Let's Do It
HELENA
'Luna can handle herself. I'm worried about you." He gazed into my eyes, filled with so much emotion.
I was speechless.
'Nothing's…gonna happen to me okay? I have my Alpha with me. Who dares come near his beloved?" I tried to lighten up the mood.
He smiled softly, and kissed me on the forehead. 'No one. I'll rip their heads off." His eyes glowed in the darkness, and I smiled in return.
I had to admit, even I wasn't sure of our journey. It took me a while to get adjusted to them both, and now I'll have to learn how to behave in the midst of an entire city of them. There would be variations in their behavior, that I knew.
I still didn't get why they couldn't just turn me.
I mean, what's the worst that could happen?
Aaron left my room that night after much persuasion. One more thing and he'd have slept there.
And I wasn't ready. At all. I wasn't able to sleep until around 3am, when the effects of the werewolf meal wore off.
The next morning, I woke up to the smell of something pleasant, unfamiliar. It smelled delicious. Another werewolf delicacy as breakfast? Hit me.
I jumped out of bed, and cross-checked my schedule for the day.
I'd have to tell my colleagues that I'd be gone for a while. Probably even forever.
Am I sure of what I wanted to do?
Maybe not. I was just following my instincts. Just like I did the day I returned here. The day I helped Aaron out of the woods. The day that changed my life forever.
I opened my bedroom door and crashed face first into a hard wall of bare muscles. I looked up, those familiar gray eyes sending currents of electricity through my bloodstream.
'Someone's up early." He beamed. It was like those eyes could reach into my heart and just… hold it.
It took me a solid minute before I found my voice. 'Well, I had an early night. What…what are you doing here?" I said, glancing between the door and the lovely yet devilish tattoo on his chest.
'I couldn't sleep in the living room, so I stayed here. I heard your breathing all through the night. It helped me relax." He leaned forward, and rested his chin on my shoulder, hugging my waist. 'I don't wanna sleep there anymore." He whined.
My heart thudded.
'Aaron…come on. You need to get some sleep." I tried lifting him off, but it was useless. He probably weighed 300 pounds. *crying emoji*
'No, I don't need some sleep. What I need is some of you." He whispered softly.
Oh goodness.
His weight was too much, and I couldn't call for Luna. She'd taunt me for the rest of my life.
So I started stepping backwards, into my room. By the time I got to my bed, my knees gave out and I turned around swiftly so that he'd land on the bed, but he pulled me down with him.
The gesture was so sudden that I had to take a few seconds to orient myself. I was laying on Aaron's bare chest. And he grabbed my waist so I couldn't move. 'Aaron!" I called softly, tapping him on the cheek. 'Let me go goddamnit!"
I really wanted to punch this huge man underneath me. But I couldn't. He probably won't even feel a thing. Regardless, he looked amazing in his sleep. I'd slept with the blinds slightly cold, so the room had a somewhat dark shade. I noticed one of the tattoos on his shoulder blade was glowing. It was a tattoo written in cursive, and it looked like a name. I couldn't make out the rest of the letters, but the 'M" stood prominent. I made a mental note to ask him about it later.
Eventually, I gave up trying to wake him up. The only option was to lay there, and wait for him to wake up.
Which happened around two hours later.
I was half asleep on his chest, listening to the rhythm of his heart when he stirred, his grip on me tightening slightly before releasing again. 'Helena?" He called.
'I'm here, sleepy head." I replied, raising my chin so he could see my eyes. He relaxed, and laid on the bed again. 'Did you sleep well?" I asked.
'Don't you think?" He smirked, nuzzling my hair.
'I'm glad. Now do you think you could let me get up?" I pouted. The truth was, if I didn't have to, I wouldn't. But it was already 10am, and Luna would come searching for us.
Aaron grunted, and released me from his hold. Phew.
Around an hour later, the three of us sat in the living room, eating whatever morning food Luna made and discussing in hushed tones. I was going through my emails from work when Luna suddenly exclaimed.
'I got it!"
It was then I noticed she was reading something. Like an old book of the sacred arts or something.
'Got what?" Aaron asked lazily.
'I think I got the perfect spell to use on Helena." She got up and ran to her room. Me and Aaron exchanged glances, and she returned almost immediately, holding three bottles.
She muttered incoherently, then she looked up at both of us. 'We have only one attempt at this. Or else…." Her voice trailed off, and I got scared as hell.
'Or else what?" Aaron sounded a lot more impatient than I was.
'Or else it could backfire…I don't know what will happen next." She completed.
That sounds awfully dangerous.
'So it's not foolproof guaranteed that it'll work?" I asked. I wasn't about to become someone's test subject. Luna hesitated, glancing at the book and at me.
'No, it's not. But it's worth a try."
If it goes wrong…then I may not be the same again. If it goes right….we can move along with our plans. I was torn between my curiosity and instinct.
'Fine then. Let's do it."
